Couple Drops Off Baby At Albuquerque Fire House,After Mom Never Comes Back For Him

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
A couple who had been watching a friend's baby for weeks has dropped the child off at an Albuquerque fire station.
    [...]
The couple had been caring for the two-month-old boy since his mother dropped him off. The mother never returned.

The child was dropped off Wednesday afternoon and was placed in state custody.

New Mexico's "safe haven law" allows mothers to drop off their babies at a clinic or hospital with no questions asked without getting in trouble.
The law would not apply in a case like this because it has to be the mother's idea.

    Aw, that poor little guy.

I wonder if the state will hold him for his mom to pick up for six months. I suppose the couple did give the fire station people his name and particulars, at least as much as they knew.

Does that mean the couple could face charges for 'abandoning' him? Or will the mother face charges because she, in effect, 'abandoned' him with the couple instead of using the Safe Haven law, and it was left to the couple to hand him over?

@Tundratot I hope they don't ''hold him'' for six months incase the mother decides she wants him back. She would probably just dump him off again when things got tough, and the next time he might not be so lucky with the ones she dumped him with.

One things for sure its a shame but it's a much nicer outcome than the ones where we see kids abused and beaten to death i would much rather hear this more often than all the stories about babys months old with broken bones n shit its fukd up

pretty sure mom will be the one charged b.c she abandoned him weeks ago when she never returned or called
My grandparents had that happen(before I was ever born)
The young parents were coming back less and less and couldnt afford to pay for my grandmother babysitting so my grand dad said let us keep her(she was about 3 months and they had most of that time anyways)
And the young parents said yeah and they waited 2 years before they went to legally adopt her b.c they were afraid SS would take her but they didt

The mother will be charged. The parent has to be the one who drops baby off at safe haven location. New Mexico. no surprise.

Could the mother have died or been murdered....I wonder what happened to her.
I get paid to stab people with sharp objects, legally give narcotics and have probably seen more penises than a prositute while getting paid Way less....I am a nurse, that's my job!
