Kindergartner Forced To Sit In Poop In Class

WASHBURN, MO (KYTV/NBC) - A Missouri mother is upset over a classroom incident that left her kindergartner humiliated.

The 6-year-old girl had an accident in her classroom, and her parents are pushing for policy changes.

"They told me that the teacher had asked her to go to the restroom before testing time," said mother Lisa Skidmore.

Skidmore says asking a young child to go to the bathroom on demand is next to impossible.

"You can't do that to a 6-year-old."

That's why, when her kindergartner told her teacher she had to go to the restroom during the test and wasn't allowed, Skidmore couldn't believe it.

Her little girl couldn't hold it.

"They didn't even bother trying to clean her up or anything. She still had poop, diarrhea poop, coming out the back, up her front, down her legs," she said.

Skidmore says her daughter was forced to sit in the class for the remainder of test time, about 15 minutes, then mom was called after the test, and it was a 20-minute drive to school to pick up her daughter.

All the while, the little girl had to sit in the mess.

No one bothered to clean her up, although a teacher did give her a trash bag to wrap around herself.

"You don't even treat a dog that way!" Skidmore said.

She says she's hoping policy will change, and common sense will prevail.

"I don't want this to happen to any other kid. That's the point of this: I don't want this ever happening." Skidmore said.

School District Superintendent Bob Walker said he wishes the school would've handled it differently.

"Bottom line, we regret what happened," Walker said.

He says, from here on out, he has instructed all his teachers to be more sensitive to other situations that might come up during testing like this one.

The little girl's dad has a tough time even talking about it.

"If any parent sent their kid to school with crappy pants, diarrhea-type crap, wrapped up in a garbage bag, stench badly, I believe with all my heart those parents would be facing criminal charges, I believe that with all my heart," he said. "If it's your child, I mean it hits a raw nerve, deep."

Those tests start in third grade, but the superintendent says the reason the teacher was sticking so closely to MAP testing guidelines, even for a kindergartner, is because she was trying to simulate the stringent rules to prepare students for what's to come.

OMG What the fuck?? Was this her first day on the job or what the fuck? Kid obviously had stomach issues, not that the teacher would have known that. But kids that age have to be taught a routine and not just expect that they control their bowels as easily as an older kid would.

Also, once it was obvious the child had an accident. Why did they have her sit in her own feces? It's a girl, she could have gotten an infection if the feces would have gone in her vagina. I mean for fuck sakes, that teacher should be made to sit in shit too, but not her own. Nazi bitch.

this kinder kiddo is getting used to big change in schedule, expectations, and the fucking teacher can't be sensitive enough to allow a unscheduled potty break?! fuck that. see I'm thinking about my 4yo starting kinder this fall and tell ya, oh hell no-- this SHIT would not fly with me! a bag, a fucking bag to cover herself with that teacher would only hope to hold her shit after I had a piece of her!

And you know the testing guidelines for MAP and STARR are not 'till 3rd grade give the fucking kinder kid a fucking break already...the testing shit and and prepared/readiness thing is getting well out of hand my 2nd grade is all freaked out about it for next year.

That's what I was saying not till 3rd grade but the teacher thought it would be all kinds of shitsngiggles to practice preparedness for it.

Potty issues were big in 8th and 9th grade, among pregnant students mostly. It can be hard to hold or to go. We all know how that works. Some try and home control into everything.

How unfortunate that the last family's last name is "Skidmore".

Bob Walker, superintendent for the Southwest R-V School District, told CBS St. Louis in a statement that the trash bag accusation is not true.

“Perhaps an error of judgment was made when examining what truly happened, but an appropriate state agency is conducting an investigation, whose findings based on facts will be forthcoming,” Walker said in the statement.

Walker also asked to “refrain from a rush to judgment” about the teacher.

“A veteran teacher with a twenty-three year spotless record , as well as a school district that is committed to serving children, is being attacked, based at least in part, on untruths.”

The parents do not plan on filing charges.

Diarrhea is notorious for not being held. The teacher may not have been aware of the urgency. Perhaps the child herself was not aware of the urgency of the situation until it was too late.

When I used to clean up diarrhea off it kids, it usually involved a bathtub and a change of clothes. Both things that are not often available at schools. I once picked up one kid who had wet her pants in school. She was still wearing the wet pants. I felt really bad for her but wasn't mad at the school. Poop is a bit different and I'm still not sure I would be mad at the school.

I think the mom going to the media with this only adds any humiliation or embarrassment the child must be feeling.
