TULSA - An east Tulsa couple was arrested Tuesday for abusing and neglecting their six-year-old child.
The boy's injuries are so severe he may require skin grafts on his scalp and forehead, police say.
Forty-nine-year-old Jessie Roach and Delores Roach, 28, are being held in the Tulsa County Jail on $250,000 bond for the alleged abuse.
The couples is accused of not properly feeding the child, Delores' son. In a court document, the boy said his step-father makes him stand at the end of the hall while the rest of the family ate.
Doctors weighed the boy at 34 pounds, well below the average for a six-year-old child, and found cuts on his scalp and forehead and "extensive bruises on his face, back, arms, and thigh, and a broken clavicle."
The Roach's took the child to a doctor when Tulsa Public Schools sent a letter home inquiring about the boy's growing absence total. DHS and TPD were notified following the exam.
Tulsa police officer Jason Willingham says the Roach's explanations for the injuries didn't add up. Delores claims she's a nurse and says that's why they didn't go to the doctor.

"It does sicken you. It does make you angry," said Renee, a neighbor. "Sometimes you wonder, you wonder about your neighbors. What really goes on behind and you hope things like that don't go on."
The boy's father has given up paternal rights, according to court documents.
Two other children reside in the home -- neither have signs of abuse.
