A man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly
stomping on his pregnant ex-girlfriend's stomach at her Fridley apartment over the weekend.
Fridley police arrived at the residence in the 900 block of Lynde Drive early Friday morning to find the young woman covered in bruises and cuts, according to an Anoka County criminal complaint.
Police also found blood on her sweatpants and a bloody towel nearby that the woman said she used in attempt to stop the bleeding, the complaint said. The woman was two months pregnant.
Kenneth Lakewood Turner, 28, was charged Monday, April 16, with first-degree attempted murder of an unborn child and domestic assault. He is being held at the Anoka County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.

Turner reportedly showed up at the woman's apartment about 3:30 a.m. Friday and began arguing with her about their relationship.
The woman told police
he hit her several times and choked her before making her lie on the bed. At that point, she said
Turner stomped on her stomach with both feet and
told her "she did not deserve the baby and that he was going to kill it," the complaint said. She told police the assault
immediately induced vaginal bleeding and intense pain in her lower abdomen.
The woman was treated at Hennepin County Medical Center and has since been
released, according to Fridley Police Det. Travis Volk. Doctors detected a faint heartbeat from the child but were uncertain if the child would be able to survive the trauma, Volk said.
The woman is scheduled for a follow-up exam Tuesday.
