Cops Think Tucker Cipriano Beat/Killed Family For Drug Money

    Tucker Cipriano
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -
Police think a 19-year-old man had a role in an attack that killed his father and critically injured two family members in a Detroit suburb
The victim is Robert Cipriano of Farmington Hills. He was an administrator for Dearborn schools.
Police Chief Chuck Nebus says Cipriano's wife and a teenage son were injured in the attack with a baseball bat, while two more children escaped.

The attack was reported about 3 a.m. Monday after a break-in in a home in the 26000 block of Rosehill Drive.

Area schools were put on lockdown as police searched for a suspect in a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Nebus says the eldest son, 19-year-old Tucker Cipriano, was captured about five hours later in Keego Harbor, 12 miles from the crime scene.

"Our directed patrol unit from Farmington Hills watched the truck and saw some people around it. One thing led to another and we were able to go to the location where the suspect was hiding and he was with another person," Nebus said.

Tucker Cipriano is on probation for cocaine possession.

Other people are also in custody.

"This doesn't happen here," said neighbor Carol Measel.

Farmington Hills beating suspect writes about dream of being in Marines in letter to probation officer
    DETROIT -
Local 4 has obtained a handwritten letter from a 19-year-old man who is suspected of being involved in a violent beating that killed his father and critically injured his mother and younger brother.
    [...]
    Read letter Tucker wrote
    http://www.clickondetroit.com/blob/v...ounty-Jail.pdf
In it, he asks how long he has to wait after his probation to join the Marines.

“It has always been a dream of mine and I would like to what I have to do to see it out, that I am able to make this dream come true,” he wrote.

He continues the letter by saying he thinks the Marines would be a good way of keeping himself out of trouble.

“I accepted my foolishness and mistake of violating my probation that you assigned me to. But this time I want to make a fail proof plan so I can get back on my feet upon release,” he wrote.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Two people are in custody after a deadly assault in Farmington Hills early Monday morning.

Police say 19-year-old Tucker Cipriano was arrested after a baseball bat attack that killed his father Robert Cipriano and left two other family members critically injured.

The body of Robert Cipriano was found at the family's home on Rose Hill near 11 Mile and Orchard Lake. Robert Cipriano's wife Rose and 17-year-old son Sal were severely beaten. They were taken to Botsford Hospital and are both in critical condition.

Another son 17-year-old Tanner, Sal's twin brother, called 911 to report the attack. An eight-year-old daughter was in the home as well.

The Farmington Hills Police Chief says Tucker Cipriano broke into the home around 3:00 a.m and a confrontation followed.

Tucker was found at a friend's home in Keego Harbor after the assault. Police got a tip that led them to the house on Knowlson Street.

At the Keego Harbor home, a friend of Tucker's was taken in for questioning. He is being called a "strong person of interest" according to the Farmington Hills Police Chief.

Late Monday afternoon, investigators could be seen taking out several bags of evidence from the home, including a computer.

Other people connected to the home have been questioned, including a woman who lives there but she declined to speak with 7 Action News when she returned to the home Monday afternoon.

Robert Cipriano worked in the Dearborn School District as Director of Business Services. His friends and coworkers are heartbroken to hear of his murder.

According to police, Tucker Cipriano has had several run-ins with the law.

Tucker's friend Ian Zinderman says he was with Tucker just hours before the attack on the family. Zinderman tells Action news that Tucker was getting high and told Ian about his plans, but he says he didn't believe Tucker was really going to do anything like that.

“They were planning on taking cars. They were planning on taking a lot of things. I didn’t want to be a part of that… and I told them look if you’re going to do something like that – I don’t think you are gonna do it – but don’t get me involved in this,” said Zinderman.

The superintendent released the following statement:

"Bob was more than a colleague, he was a good friend. We are devastated and in shock. Thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's family."

A vigil will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the North Congregational Church located at 36520 West 12 Mile in Farmington Hills.

According to Farmington Public Schools, Tucker last attended North Farmington High School in the fall as a senior. But he had a string of excused absences in October and then stopped showing up.

Be sure to watch the video the one kid has a complete meltdown when he realizes

19-year-old Tucker Cipriano pleads not guilty in beating death of father; accomplice breaks down
    Tucker Cipriano & Mitchell Young
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., (WXYZ) -

Nineteen-year-old Tucker Cipriano and his 20-year-old friend have pleaded not guilty to charges they beat his father to death and critically injured his mother and brother.

Prosecutors have charged both Cipriano and Mitchell Young with Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder in the death of his father. They have also been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and one count of Armed Robbery.

During the arraignment Young broke down into tears and put his head down on the table before entering his plea. He also said he didn't take part in the crime.

"I'm not guilty," Young wailed. "I didn't do any of this."

Both men have asked for court appointed attorneys. They were both ordered held without bond.

    Cipriano spoke clearly and politely.

But Young was overcome with emotion.

"I don't know what to do, oh my God," Young wailed.

Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor John Skrzynski told the court the facts of the case are "horrific" and "inhuman".

Police say Cipriano and Young broke into the Cipriano family's Farmington Hills home in the early morning hours Monday.

They are accused of assaulting three members of the family with baseball bats.

Cipriano's father, Bob, died Monday from blunt force trauma. Cipriano's mother, Rose and 17-year-old brother, Sal remain in the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators recovered two baseball bats from the scene that they believe were used to assault the family.

Young was taken into custody at the Cipriano home. Police say Tucker Cipriano fled the scene but was arrested later that afternoon at a friend's house in Keego Harbor.

Tucker told the court he had no job or current address. Mitchell said he was a full-time waiter. Both were ordered not to have contact with each other or the Cipriano family.

Many people were in court to support the suspects.

Christine Frederick said Tucker always had problems dealing with the fact that he was adopted.

"He took it out on the wrong family," Frederick said after court. "He needed to take it out on his real family."

Christine Frederick said Tucker always had problems dealing with the fact that he was adopted.

You know what? While I'm sure many adopted kids can feel his pain,it's no excuse. ANd more to the point, you know how many kids languish in foster care for years hoping they will be adopted into a loving home? There will be kids that won't be adopted because of stories like this.
And no matter how he feels, the fact remains they gave him a loving home..and this is how he repays them. I hope he rots in prison for the rest of his life, all alone. Maybe then he'll realize what he threw away for a high.

Action News uncovers new details in Cipriano/Young murder investigation
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Posts on Tucker Cipriano’s Facebook page, which is under a different name, show a mix of support and questions.

“Why Tucker, Why” wrote one friend. “You promised me, you were changing.”

Another wrote “We all know you aren’t a monster”.

One supporter wrote “Tucker you are the man”, to which Greg Cipriano wrote “This is Tucker's Uncle Greg. I dare you to come to Botsford Hospital where I will escort you into the rooms where his brother and mother cling for their lives so you can witness the devastation he has caused.”
Meantime, 7 Action News is learning more about both Tucker and his friend Mitchell Young, both of whom are accused of the savage beating of Tucker’s family, which left Tucker’s dad dead and his mom and brother in critical condition.

Mitchell went by the nickname “Roderick” and worked as a waiter at New Cedar Restaurant in Farmington. A waitress tells 7 Action News Mitchell was popular with customers.

Both young men had been staying at the Park Motel in Farmington off and on for several weeks until about a month ago.

Motel Manager Cindy Franklin says the two were too young to rent a room so older friends did it for them.

She says both were polite, paid the $40 nightly fee, but often she had to kick them out because they brought over too many friends.

"I just saw they were a victim of the teenage drug scene," Franklin says.

    [.]
But he had dreams as well, writing in March ”Chillin thinkin bout life. Who i am going to meet. Where am i going to go. Where im going to end up. But for now just have fun and enjoy life".

And despite a rocky relationship with his parents, it appears they tried to maintain contact.

His father Bob posted just two and a half weeks ago "Happy Birthday Son. Call me".
And his mom Rose posted "Tucker, I tried texting and calling you….Grandma has a birthday present for you…Call me, Love Mom".
    NEW COURT DOCUMENTS FILED
New court documents obtained Thursday show the potential list of witnesses as the Cipriano murder case moves along, as well as the documents prosecutors want produced.

The witness list includes a slew of friends like Ian Zinderman who was with Tucker when he was arrested at a Keego Harbor home hours after the crime.

Also on the list, two of the Cipriano kids, an 8-year-old daughter and 17-year-old Tanner, both of whom were at their house in Farmington Hills when the suspects allegedly broke in, murdered Bob Cipriano, and severely beat Bob’s wife Rose and their son Sal.

The new documents just filed also show that phone records from three phone numbers will have to be produced.

This includes phone calls and text messages for all three of the phones in question for April 2012.

I'm thinking he only beat his brother Sal because Sal tried to interviene. That really sucks. The kid tried to defend his parents only to get beaten so severely. This is so sad. How horrible for the two children that witnessed this. I'm sure even hiding in a closet the older boy heard what was going on. I don't know where the 8 year old daughter was but I'm sure she heard the screaming too. They all had to be so scared. Being adopted is no excuse. This kid is a drug head and probably wanted more and more from his parents and when they stopped supporting his habit he decided to do what he did. I really hope his mom and brother make it out of his alive. The family has already lost so much. My prayers are with this family.

Man charged in Farmington Hills beatings, murder has violent past with parents in Westland

According to Westland police report, 20-year-old Mitchell Young beat his father in defense of his mother

    ONTIAC, Mich. -
A young man charged in the Farmington Hills family attack lived in an environment of alcohol and violence, Local 4 has learned.

Mitchell Young is charged along with 19-year-old Tucker Cipriano in the murder of Tucker’s father, Bob, and for critically injuring Tucker's mother, Rose, and younger brother, Sal, in an attack early Monday morning at the Cipriano home in Farmington Hills.

Since the attack and charges, more has been learned about Mitchell Young's past.

A December 2011 Westland police report details how Mitchell Young tied up and beat his father Todd Young to protect his mother Jennifer Young, who had been beaten.
According to the police report, Mitchell Young arrived home at 4 a.m. that December morning to find his father drunk and his mother beaten.

The report says Mitchell used duct tape, speaker wire and rope to tie his father’s hands and ankles together after he fell asleep on the couch. When he went to check on his mother he heard his father trying to get up while still tied up. Mitchell then beat Todd in the face and head and kicked him several times.

Jennifer Young had a swollen face and back injuries, according to the report.

She declined medical treatment and declined to press charges against her husband, according to the report.

Mitchell called police. When officers arrived at the home, Jennifer told them she had been hit before and the last time Mitchell said, "The next time he does this, I’ll kill him," according to the police report.

According to the report, the couple split and moved out of the Westland home this past year.

A picture attached to the report shows Todd Young after he was arrested.

Jennifer saw her son Mitchell crying Wednesday when he was told by the judge he was charged with murder.

Woman who took in Tyler Cipriano charged with drug crimes
    Christine Frederick
Farmington Hills-WXYZ) - The woman who at one time took in murder suspect Tucker Cipriano is now facing drug charges.

On Friday night Farmington Hills Police arrested 47-year-old Christine Frederick at her home on Haynes Street. Saturday morning she was arraigned for manufacturing marijuana, a 4 year felony, and possession of marijuana, a 2 year misdemeanor.

“She is a medical marijuana patient,” said her attorney Steven Schwartz. “Obviously, under medical marijuana laws you are allowed to have marijuana.”

“I am glad to hear she was arrested,” said one man who showed up in the hopes of watching her arraignment.

He said he didn’t want to share his identity, but wanted to speak out against what Frederick allows to happen in her home. He says his son spent time there, until he got in trouble for things happening there.

“She allows teens to party there. He is banned from her home. “

Frederick is known for taking in young people. She has said she knows what it is like to not have a place to go and was in the system herself.

She took in Tucker some time ago. He and a young man named Mitchell Young are charged with the death of Tucker’s father Bob Cipriano. Police say they beat him and two other family members with a baseball bat. Tucker’s mom and brother remain in critical condition.

Frederick recently spoke out in defense of Cipriano, telling 7 Action News that he'd always had problems dealing with the fact that he was adopted.

“She is a good person. She is going to school to be a child psychologist. She wants to help people,” said Schwartz.

The Farmington Hills Police Department does not release specific details regarding on going drug investigations. However, according to Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus, last nights arrest of Christine Frederick is related to an on going drug investigation. It is not related to the Cipriano murder case

O.o what a way to go beaten to death by your demon spawn adopted son. It's a shame he felt the need to do this to his family. The only family he had. I get adopted kids have identity issues but this goes way beyond that. This kid was srsly messed off.

Wife, son of Farmington Hills man who was beat to death are still in critical condition
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -
The two survivors of an attack that left a Farmington Hills man dead are now reported to be making modest improvements.

When Robert Cipriano was killed in a baseball bat attack in the family's Farmington Hills home last month. his wife, Rose, and son, Salvatore, were badly beaten and hospitalized.

Both remain in critical condition at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, but a spokeswoman for the hospital reports both are showing what doctors consider purposeful movements and responses to simple requests.

Cipriano always talked about killing, friends tell police
FARMINGTON HILLS (WXYZ) - In the weeks leading up to the heinous attack on his family, Tucker Cipriano’s friends say he often talked freely about bludgeoning his family.

“(He) has always talked of killing people," said a female friend of Cipriano’s. She and others spoke to police in the days following the murder of his father and assaults on his family. According to the friend, Cipriano said he “would beat someone to death or he would chop them up.” He talked about committing murder so often, said the girl, that she thought he was joking.

According to the interview, Tucker said he stole up to $1,100 from his parent’s house weeks earlier, and used it to buy alcohol, tattoos and hotel rooms. He told the friend several times that we “would kill his parents for money.”

An interview with a different friend reveals that two weeks earlier, he’d heard that Cipriano and his friend Mitchell Young were planning to kill Cipriano’s parents for money. Cipriano and Young talked with a third friend, Ian Zinderman, about who would kill which family members.

Zinderman says he told the duo that he wouldn’t take part in the murder, and tried to convince them to change their minds.

When the duo showed up, their plan hit its first road block. They didn’t count on barks from the family dog. It woke up the Cipriano’s father. He yelled, “Stop, take the money and go.”

Instead, according to interviews, Tucker’s friend Mitchell “hit his dad on the top of his head” with a baseball bat several times while Tucker held him. When Cipriano’s mother walked in, Young struck her too. She ran away before collapsing. Brother Salvatore was also struck.

Hours later when police interviewed Cipriano, he asked officers whether his father was still alive. When they told him he wasn’t, he broke down. He told police he was very close to his father.

As for his friend Mitchell Young, he called his mother hours after the murder. “I’m sorry mom,” he said on a recorded phone line.

And did any of these friends think to warn the Cipriano family? Call the police? Do something other then keep this information to themselves?!
I'm sorry but I don't get where people can get information like this and just keep it to themselves.

Cipriano siblings expected to testify during Wednesday preliminary hearing
Siblings expected to testify against brother accused of beating Farmington Hills family, killing father

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -
They were the only two to escape unharmed from a brutal attack on April 16 at their Farmington Hills home.

The younger siblings of 19-year-old Tucker Cipriano are expected to testify Wednesday during the preliminary hearing for their brother and his 20-year-old friend, Mitchell Young.
    [...]
Tucker's young sister and Sal's twin are now expected to give prosecutors details about what happened that morning.

"The experience must have been horrific," said Dr. Gerald Shiener, a psychologist at the Detroit Medical Center. "A brother killing a father, a brother, killing a mother. Those things are terrible, and we have to talk about it in court ... brings up all those feelings again. It's not just talking about it, it's re-experiencing, reliving it and all the things come out in Technicolor, so it's got to be very difficult for these children to do so."

During the attack, police say Tucker's brother, Sal's twin, hid in a closet and called 911 while his 8-year-old sister fled to the basement.

This will be the first time the two will see their brother in court, face-to-face, since the tragedy unfolded this past month.

"It must be hard to give evidence against your brother, and it's also hard to know that your brother hurt the rest of your family and tore family apart like this," Shiener said.

Police reports detail Tucker Cipriano's confession after attack on family

According to police reports, Tucker Cipriano confessed to Farmington Hills beatings
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -
According to the police reports obtained by Local 4, 19-year-old Tucker Cipriano confessed the day after his father, Bob Cipriano, was killed and his mother, Rose Cipriano, and brother, Sal Cipriano, were critically beaten with baseball bats.

Police asked Tucker if he had been doing drugs or drinking alcohol before the attack at the Farmington Hills home.
He answered he does smoke spice but did not drink or smoke yesterday," the April 17 report reads.

Tucker and his 20-year-old friend face murder and attempted murder charges for the deadly beating on April 16.

According to the police report, Tucker first lied about how the accused duo entered the Cipriano family home. He said through an open door. However, the truth is they pried open a window at the house.

When the two went inside the home, according to the police report, Tucker said, "S*** popped off."

"The dog started barking, he held it down to stop, and it bit him," the report reads."

Watch: Cipriano beating suspects tell different story

Then his father, Bob Cipriano, came downstairs. Tucker told police in the reports that Young, whom he called Roderick, said, "Get him now. Get him now."

"Roderick was fighting with his father, mother and brother," the report reads. "Roderick was swinging and grabbing things to hit people. Screaming and yelling went on for a while."

    [...]
"While he was holding his father, Roderick hit his dad on the top of his head a lot," the report reads. "His mother Rose came into the kitchen, began crying and had a dumb look on her face."

Tucker told police that "Roderick hit her on the front of her head, she ran out of the kitchen into the foyer and collapsed."

Tucker's 8-year-old sister, Isabella, came and said, "I thought you loved me ... I want my mommy," according to the reports.

Tucker first told police he took her upstairs then later said it was the basement to be out of danger. The story would later change to Young was the one who took the young girl to the basement "to do something."

"Roderick told him he couldn't do it, referring to killing his 8-year-old sister," the report reads.

Tucker's 17-year-old brother, Sal, went at Tucker with a BB gun, but Tucker grabbed it and broke it, hitting his brother in the shoulder.

"He hit Sal with a bat a couple of times, but didn't think he hit him hard," the report reads.

Tucker also went on a hunt in the house looking for his other brother, 17-year-old Tanner Cipriano, who was hiding under a desk in his bedroom. Tanner had called 911.

Police report: Tucker Cipriano called slain father, Bob Cipriano, 'hero'

Farmington Hills deadly baseball beating suspect, Tucker Cipriano, recalled attack on father, mother in police report
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -
Tucker Cipriano and his friend, Mitchell Young, have confessed to attacking the Cipriano family with baseball bats on the morning of April 16 at the family's Farmington Hills home.

Now, Local 4 has the police report which details Tucker's haunting recollections of the attack. According to the police report, Tucker told police he wanted to talk more. It's all outlined in the report.
The 19-year-old has plenty of time to think about the attack as he sits in solitary confinement at the Oakland County Jail. He and Young face murder and attempted murder charges.

Tucker's father, Bob Cipriano, was killed in the attack. According to the police report, Tucker has been haunted by the sound of the fatal blow to his father.
Tucker stated that he had a dream last night in which he saw his mother and father," the April 18 police report reads. "That he was still traumatized with the sound of hearing his father being struck. Tucker stated he could still hear the sound played over and over in his head. Tucker said his father was his 'hero.'"

In contrast, when he spoke of his mother, Rose Cipriano, who was critically beaten, he had a different demeanor.

"His facial expressions changed and he mainly discussed arguments that he had with her," the report reads.

Later in the interview, Tucker told police he never struck his father and he did not recall ever striking his mother.

"Tucker indicated that he held onto his father as Young repeatedly struck him with a baseball bat," the report reads.

Still, when he was asked if he hit his mother, "Tucker stated that he may have," the report reads.

According to police, Tucker's 8-year-old sister, Isabella, came down from her bedroom and Tucker recalled what she said to him.

"I thought you loved me, why are you hitting mom?"

Tucker said his 17-year-old brother, Sal Cipriano, who also was critically beaten, came at him with a BB gun and that Tucker "had broken a BB gun on him."

Tucker fled to a friend's house in Keego Harbor where he told a friend his parents were dead, according to police. Then a group of five of them smoked spice.

The confessions are key evidence that will be in a court hearing on Friday.

Farmington Hills woman finds son dead from morphine overdose

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -
Another mother has lost her child to drugs. Christine Frederick found her son, 20-year-old Neil Lilly, dead in his bed Monday morning from a morphine overdose.

"I was not prepared. I just got my life together, you know. I graduated from high school. I was in college, and then Neil started going downhill real fast," she said.

You might recognize Frederick as the Farmington Hills woman who had taken in Tucker Cipriano prior to the young man's alleged attack on his family.

Frederick, who grew up in dozens of foster care homes, prides herself on taking in wayward youth. She herself gave up her own children several years ago. She blames a brain tumor that sent her life spiraling out of control. She had surgery and only recently started to get her own life together, only recently reconnected with her son, Neil, and got him into counseling. There was so much pain in his young life and now he's gone.

"Let go of the past and let's get on with our future, you know, and I guess he did," she said.

Frederick herself is no stranger to drugs. As recently as April she was arrested for growing marijuana, which her attorney says is for medical purposes related to her brain tumor. She says she's a staunch opponent of drug use witnessing firsthand how it destroys lives.

"I ask myself what could I have done. I should have known," she said.

Now she's trying to find the money for a funeral and hoping Neil's teenage sister is able to find out what happened to her brother so she, too, can mourn for a life gone too soon.

Donations for Neil's funeral can be made to the Neil Ryan Lilly Memorial Fund at Credit Union One.
