Dennis Jones Gets DUI In His Own Front Yard

PAISLEY, Fla. -
A 57-year-old Lake County man was charged with driving under the influence after deputies say he was repeatedly backing his truck into trees in the front yard of his home.

Lake County deputies said Dennis Jones, of Paisley, was trying to back out of his driveway Tuesday morning around 10 a.m. for at least 15 minutes. Neighbors called authorities after they said he smashed into trees, dug his truck into a hole and was spinning his tires in dirt close to his neighbor's fence, according to the deputy report.

When deputies arrived, they said Jones had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, was missing a lens in his eyeglasses and was slurring his words.
Jones told deputies he had "less than one pint of vodka" that morning, according to the report.

Jones failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, according to reports. He was given a breathalyzer test at 10:45 a.m. and deputies said he registered at .242. more than three times the legal limit.

Wow, I didn't realize you could actually be charged with DUI on your own private property. That's pretty fuckin' hilarious.

If its anything like here (Canada) then if keys are in ignition and your drunk your busted
And cops will taunt you to walk off your property onto sidewalk and can bust you for public intoxication

I bet this guy is a riot at parties. I mean come on now guy, if hitting the trees weren't clue enough that you were too drunk well I think getting stuck in the hole was divine intervention.

Here you can get busted for public intox even if you are sitting on your front porch minding your own business. They say it is because the public can see you, that's enough to get arrested.

I know here the cops will try taunting you onto public sidewalk b/c I have seen them
and Ive seen dumbasses actually fall for it and get cuffed as soon as they hit the cement sidewalk
I also have taunted cops by staying on the grass waving my foot over the sidewalk like an asshole and the cops just laughed

My mom got pulled over in front of the house next to our fors her DUI. Makes me giggle every time I think about it.

I only giggle because she learned her lesson.

Ive never drank and drove but have done other asshole things lol
But nothing super bad I just get happy and end up having a bit to much fun

I really don't think they can arrest you on your own property. He must have entered the roadway at some point. It might vary from state to state, but if you want to back into your own trees, here, have at it.

I was just thinking about dui the other day and thought getting one while on a horse to be harsh. I was a little wtf about him getting one in his yard but the picture n story made me change my mind.

Sounds like a victimless crime to me. He didn't damage anyone's property but his own. Poor guy keeps his drunk driving on his own property and still gets arrested for it.

If you could trust a drunk driver to ACTUALLY keep their drunk driving on their own property, I'd be all for letting them. But by the time you find out they can't, they've shot across the street and into a neighbor's child/house/dog.

In your state it isn't illegal to drink and drive on your own property unless 1. Your property is open to vehicular property (meaning your yard is situated on a street where other vehicles drive) or 2. an officer has a resonable expectation that you're intending to leave your property while drinking and driving.

So if you're out in the boonies and there isn't any other traffic around and you're not trying to get off of your property, you're ok.
