FORT SMITH, Ark. -- A trip to a local bar ended with a 27-year-old mother being arrested and her toddler placed in state custody, police said.
Officers stopped Krissy Thompson on Wednesday after seeing her running on Massard Road while pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller. Officers were responding to a wreck at 11:36 p.m. in the area of Massard Road and Louisville Street when they stopped Thompson.
Officers said Thompson had slurred speech and a strong odor of intoxicants. She told police that she had been at the Electric Cowboy for two hours and drank two beers while her daughter slept outside in her car.
An Electric Cowboy employee told police that just prior to the crash a woman had left the club driving a white Ford Mustang with a child in the car. Witnesses told police they saw a woman who appeared to be intoxicated leaving the scene pushing a child in a stroller.
The Department of Human Services took custody of the 2-year-old.
Thompson was arrested for suspicion of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, driving while intoxicated, refusing a breath test, no proof of insurance, no driver’s license and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
