Driving Instructor Vicki Wojtila Busted for OVI; Half-Empty Bottle of Vodka Found

EASTLAKE, Ohio — A driving instructor is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs (OVI) after she failed a field sobriety test following a traffic stop, Fox 8 News reports.

Vicki Wojtila, 45, of Euclid, was arrested on Friday at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wojtila, a driving instructor for the Town and City Driving School in Willowick, had just dropped off a juvenile student minutes earlier.
The reporting officer observed the student driver vehicle — a 2001 Buick Century — traveling westbound on Roberts Road. After noticing some seriously erratic driving, the officer activated his cruiser lights. The car, however, didn’t pull over right away.

the officer identified Wojtila as the driver, noting that she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She failed field sobriety testing and refused to submit to breath testing at the Eastlake Police Department station. A half-empty bottle of vodka was found in her purse.

Wojtila was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. She is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Willoughby Municipal Court on charges of OVI and other traffic

"She didn't have her window down. It took her a while to get her window down," Reik pointed out. "He asked some simple, basic questions that she wasn't able to answer. Her speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy."

Wojtila failed field sobriety testing and refused to submit to breath testing at the police station.

She had just renewed her driving instructor's license in February after a six year period in which it was inactive. Wojtila last acted as a driving instructor for the Sears Driving School in 2006.
Valerie Luptak, of the Ohio Department of Public Safety's Driver Training Program, told WKYC she did not know when Wojtila was originally licensed.
A records search showed Wojtila had several traffic violations in the 1990's, including two speeding tickets and running a stop sign. Luptak said those violations would not prohibit one from becoming a licensed driving instructor.
If Wojtila is convicted of either the OVI or child endangering charge, Luptak said a hearing would be convened at which Wojtila could lose her license. There are 2,058 licensed driving instructors in Ohio.
Messages left for Town and City Driving School on Vine Street in Willowick, seeking comment on Wojtila's arrest, were not returned as of Tuesday evening. Wojtila had a video arraignment today in Willoughby Municipal Court for the OVI and driving without a seatbelt.

If police pursue this matter, it could be devastating. Town and City Driving School is one of the few commercial driving schools in Ohio where you can learn drunk driving.
