Police: Burglary suspect left wallet at crime scene

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
A burglar broke into a car recently, but police said he left an obvious clue behind that led straight to him.
Alan McClelland came bake from an Easter Sunday hike to find that his car was broken into.

"The panels were pulled off. A lot of stuff had been scattered. The only thing that I could really find missing was the face plate from the stereo," McClelland said.

McClelland said he was furious until he found something that didn't belong to him in the ransacked car.

"The fact that he left his wallet behind for me kind of put a smile on my face," McClelland said. "(His wallet) had his EBT card, had his state-issued ID. It had his bus pass everything else that could lead anyone right to his house."

As it turns out, police said Joseph Williams had already been booked six hours earlier on an outstanding warrant. Now he'll also face burglary charges.

McClelland said Williams lives a few blocks down from him.

Please tell me that even if he bails out, that his wallet and the entire contents inside will remain crime scene evidence until after he's tried/sentenced...
