The parents of four Las Cruces children who recently tested positive for cocaine
were on probation at the time of their arrests last week, according to the New Mexico Corrections Department.
Stacey Carreras, 26,
had been placed on probation on March 25 after being charged with four counts of child abuse, negligently cause (no death or great bodily harm).
Eric Lee Estrada, 30,
was placed on probation in December 2011 after being charged with three counts of child abuse, negligently cause (no death or great bodily harm).
Estrada reported as required to his probation officer in Las Cruces until March, after which he was referred to Drug Court, a higher level of supervision. He then reported to a probation officer a Drug Court Judge, and was eligible for random drug testing.

Child Protective Services had been already investigating the couple for illegal drug use because
their children - ages 1, 2, 5 and 8 - had tested positive for cocaine in the past, police said.

The New Mexico Corrections Department has issued new arrest orders, as well as probation violation charges, for both Carreras and Estrada.
