CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. - An Oak Grove couple is charged with child abuse after police and first responders found their infant nephew unresponsive in their home earlier in the week.
Christopher Leutwyler and Joni Leutwyler were arrested after investigation revealed they allegedly assaulted their 9-month-old nephew.
Kentucky State Police received a call from Christian County on April 3 in reference to Jack Stark, a 9-month-old male, who was found unresponsive at 105 North Cavalcade Circle, Oak Grove, Ky. The boy was taken to Blanchfield Hospital in Ft. Campbell and later flown to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville. The child later died at Vanderbilt.
Investigation revealed that the injuries the juvenile sustained were consistent with abuse, and on April 5, Detective Lloyd Ray obtained warrants for the Leutwylers, the uncle and aunt of the boy.
Mr. and Mrs. Leutwyler were arrested without incident at their residence and both were charged with 1st degree assault and 1st degree domestic violence and criminal abuse of a child 12 or under.
Due to the death of the child, Detective Lloyd Ray along with Christian County Attorney Mike Foster, will be seeking to amend the 1st degree assault charge to 1st degree murder for both Mr. and Mrs. Leutwyler.
