Camping already? What in the hell would you do in a campground, surrounded by other campers, to harm or kill your child?

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a six-year-old girl at a Hampshire campsite.

The youngster is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest after having a fit at the Holmsley camp site in the New Forest.

Emergency crews say they arrived to find the girl's parents frantically trying to revive their daughter using CPR in the early hours of this morning.
    [...]

Police are now trying to piece together the events leading up to the girl's cardiac arrest.

The girl and her parents were thought to have just started their Easter holiday when the tragedy happened.

It is not known whether the two people arrested - a man aged 30 and a woman aged 40 from Gosport - were the girl's parents.

It was understood they were arrested at the campsite by detectives called in after medics became suspicious.
    [...]

Sergeant Heather McNicol, from Hampshire Police, said: 'When a six-year-old child is found, then initially we have to think it's a suspicious death.

'But until there is a full post-mortem examination, we do not know what the cause of death was.

'There is a long way to go before we know if there's any foul play. But whether it's foul play or not, it's a tragedy.'
    [...]

'It was part of a group of four tents, owned by four families, and they had been making a bit of noise last night, going back and forth between the toilet blocks.

'Police were everywhere and asking me if I heard anything but there was no real commotion.
    [...]

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said she was woken by the sound of screams and someone repeatedly pressing a car horn before police and paramedics arrived.
    [...]

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said the girl was 'fitting and not breathing'.

He added: 'A double-manned ambulance was sent with an emergency care practitioner.

'The child went into cardiac arrest and adrenalin was administered.'
    [...]

'It was the ambulance crew which decided that the police should be called in, but I do not know at this stage what circumstances led to them making that decision,' he added.

A Home Office pathologist was put on standby today to carry out a post-mortem examination on the young girl's body.

The autopsy was expected to be carried out in the mortuary at Southampton General Hospital.

A man and a woman held over the death of a six-year-old girl at a campsite have been freed without charge.

Hampshire Police said a post-mortem examination had shown that the girl's death was not suspicious and they were treating it as a tragic accident.

Ambulance staff called to the Holmsley campsite in the New Forest early on Friday had found the girl "fitting". She then went into cardiac arrest.

Police said the investigation into the circumstances of her death was ongoing.
    [...]

Police had been called to the campsite at 12:50am BST on Friday by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics who had found the girl "fitting and not breathing".
    [...]

"The arrests made this morning were necessary as a result of a report from experienced medical professionals," the police spokeswoman said.

Hampshire police had initially said they were treating the girl's death as suspicious because of her age.

What are the odds this will be opened again after an autopsy is completed?

A six-year-old girl who died on a family camping holiday may have been poisoned by carbon monoxide from a barbecue.

Isabelle Harris’s parents are believed to have had a barbecue on Thursday afternoon close to where they had pitched their tent at Holmsley campsite in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Hours later Isabelle collapsed, had a fit and stopped breathing at the site in Bransgore.
    [...]

A post-mortem examination on Friday failed to reveal an exact cause of death and officers are now awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

A police source said yesterday: ‘The results may take a few weeks but they would show whether the girl suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. We know that the family had a barbecue on Thursday afternoon before she died and people have died after breathing in the fumes before. We do not know how close to the tent the barbecue was.’

Yesterday, Isabelle’s parents released a statement paying tribute to their only child.
    [...]

It read: ‘No words are strong enough to describe how we feel at the moment. Isabelle was our whole world; everything we ever did was for her.’

Despite being arrested, the couple thanked police, saying: ‘We thank them for the way they have treated us, being as open and honest as they can.’

Carbon monoxide poisoning claims the lives of about 25 people in Britain each year.

As the gas is colourless, tasteless and odourless, people often fall unconscious without realising anything is wrong. It is produced when carbon – including gas, wood, oil or barbecue coals – is burned with insufficient oxygen.

In July last year, Hazel Woodhams, 30, of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was killed by carbon monoxide fumes from a barbecue at a campsite near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

The following month, Tracy Screen, 34, of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, died in a tent at a campsite in Gwynedd, Wales, after inhaling fumes from a barbecue.

Isabelle’s parents said they did not wish to speculate on the cause of their child’s death.

‘We want to find out why this happened and we would like to leave the police to get on with this,’ they said.
