Sante The Dog Nurses Puppy & Orphaned Kittens

    Sante
The maternal instinct of one Sevier County dog is helping make life a little easier for new shelter orphans.

5-year-old Sante has been living at Pets Without Parents since Valentine's Day.

Last Saturday, a couple brought in three 2-week-old kittens who needed to be bottle fed.

The shelter experimented with the idea of having Sante nurse the kittens, since she only had one puppy.

Sure enough, she took them right in, nursing and cleaning the kittens.

Then, a few days later, a 2-day-old kitten was brought into the shelter. Without hesitation, Sante added it to her new family.

Those at the shelter say we could all learn a valuable lesson from Sante.

"To me it just show that, you know, if a dog and cat can get along, we all can. She just took them in and mothered them and just loves them. She's taking care of them and they're all thriving. I just think it's a beautiful story," said Karolina Ogorek.

Pets Without Parents is the first no-kill animal shelter in Sevier County.
