"Very Nice Guy" Allegedly Chops Up Roommate & Puts Him In The Fridge

Cops raided Sergey Mamontov’s Sheepshead Bay apartment Tuesday after getting a tip that his roommate was missing, sources said.

Police went to the men’s fourth-floor apartment and found Mamontov at home with the dismembered remains mixed with bleach in the refrigerator, the sources said.

Mamontov confessed to the killing, they said.

"He said his roommate was noisy, that he brought in friends, including homeless guys, and other inappropriate friends,” a source said. “They kept him up at night."
    [...]

"Maybe two weeks ago I saw Sergey and I asked him, 'You have another roommate?’" said Eugene Lisoukova, 66. "He said, 'Yes, but he will go away soon and no one will see him anymore.'"

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

A teen who lives with his mom in the unit directly below Mamontov said he heard a loud crashing sound and commotion from the apartment early Sunday, March 25, the date the victim apparently disappeared.

"Someone fell really hard and someone was screaming," said Alan Lazebnik, 16.
    [...]

One couple who live next door defended Mamontov, saying the victim was “bad.”

"I know Sergey 15 for years. He was a good guy, a very nice guy," said Vladimir Sirkicov.

"The other guy was very bad. The one who died was terrible," Sirkicov said. "He was crazy. He was a drunk all the time."

A Russian immigrant told cops yesterday that he killed his Brooklyn roommate in a fistfight during a wild party, chopped up his body and tried to dissolve the dismembered corpse in vats of bleach, sources told The Post.
    [...]

His death went unnoticed until yesterday, when a friend of the victim went to the fourth-floor apartment on Nostrand Avenue looking for the man.

The suspected butcher told him he was gone — for good.

“You’re not going to see him anymore. He’s not around anymore,” Mamontov allegedly told him. “I cut him up.”

The pal then told cops, who walked into the grisly scene at around 1 p.m.

They found vats of a bleach-acid combo containing what appeared to be human body parts inside the apartment and in the suspect’s refrigerator, the sources said.

The fridge was filled with a five-gallon bucket and eight smaller Clorox bottles.

“There isn’t even room for an egg” in the refrigerator, one source said.

Another source said, “We have body parts. We have a rib cage there. We don’t know how much of the body is there.”

Outside, cops collected a pair of Goodwill donation boxes that gave off a stomach-churning odor of decaying flesh.

Investigators were also going through every piece of trash in the building by hand as they searched for more human body parts.

Mamontov, who has two prior DUI busts and one for grand larceny, told cops he’d taken the victim in as a roommate six months ago, but the two did not get along.

The last straw came when Mamontov said he came home to find the victim partying with two or three pals.

The alleged butcher chucked the drinking buddies out, and he and the roommate, whose name was withheld, got into the vicious fistfight that left the older man dead.

The suspect said he chopped the body up and immersed the parts in the bleach hoping to destroy the evidence, sources said.
    [...]

The Medical Examiner’s Office was studying the suspected body parts — including what clearly looked like fingers — to confirm that they were human.

Well obviously the murderer is a nice guy. He fit as much as he could into the fridge to preserve it, was clening up with bleach (gotta fight that pesky bacteria), and he was going to donate the parts he couldn't keep or use to Goodwill!!! He's a damn saint, I tell ya.

Why would he take so much time & effort to 'destroy the evidence' if he's just gonna tell people he cut the guy up and he'll never be seen again? Idiot.

I guess we can only assume that he wasn't actually attempting to destroy the evidence, but had some other, unfathomable purpose behind his actions.

An accused killer nonchalantly testified about how he chopped his roommate's body into a thousand little pieces so they were small enough to stuff into bleach bottles during his murder trial Wednesday.

Sergey Mamonov, 50, acknowledged he went to shocking lengths to conceal the remains of Aleksandr Zilbergleyt, 55, after he died March 25, 2012.

The creepy carpenter cut off the man's fingers and tossed them into Sheepshead Bay, hid the teeth in a separate location, scalped the skin, ran the brain through a meat grinder, chopped up the body and stored the parts in 12 bleach bottles — all in an effort to make his rival's corpse disappear, prosecutor charged.

"For me, it was as horrid as it is for you to hear," Mamonov told a stunned jury, taking the stand in his own defense. "I don't want to be looked at as a monster. I had to get rid of the body."

He claimed Zilbergleyt, who was his roommate at a Sheepshead Bay flat for about six months, was a drunkard who refused to move out. The two got into a fight, he testified, and the roommate accidentally fell on his head and died.

Mamonov said he didn't call the police because they failed to help in preceding months when called to mediate between the housemates' ongoing feud.

"I had to make it a secret," he said.
    [...]

The alleged psycho killer was asked how he knew to dispose of the remains in a way that concealed the dead man's identity as well as his fatal injuries.

    "I read detectives stories,"
    he replied.

It took a Brooklyn jury only 15 minutes Thursday to convict a twisted carpenter who admitted to chopping up his roommate's remains into a thousand tiny pieces so they could be stuffed inside bleach bottles.
    [...]

In a disturbing turn on the stand Wednesday, Mamonov claimed his rival died by falling accidentally when the two fought in the kitchen.

"It was by necessity," said the ex-Soviet soldier, who came to the U.S. some 20 years ago and later became a citizen, of his efforts to get rid of the body. Those efforts also included, he acknowledged, throwing chopped-up fingers to a canal and carving up the bruised skin off the corpse's face.

"We don't get to this unless someone is trying to cover up a deliberate and purposeful murder," assistant district attorney Melissa Carvajal said in closing arguments.

Mamonov's attempt at concealing his crime -- for which he used virtually every tool in his kitchen -- would have proved successful had he not told a pal of the fatal beating.

"This guy has thought of everything," Carvajal told the jury. "If he didn't tell his friend and his friend didn't get scared, we wouldn't be here because he was systematically making Aleks disappear."

Jurors leaving Brooklyn Supreme Court after handing down the verdict, for which Mamonov now faces 25 years to life in prison, said they were shocked by his testimony.

"He had no remorse for anything. He didn't even say sorry," said a 56-year-old male juror. "It brings you to understand how cruel a human can be."

Defense attorney Kleon Andreadis said after the verdict that he was struck by the dichotomy between his client's acts and the fact that he used to teach French, plays classic guitar and has never been arrested before.

"He is the most polite, soft-spoken guy you'd ever want to meet," the lawyer said.
