2 Burgers Off The Dollar Menu: Christine Baker Comes Up A Few Fries Short

Christine Faith Baker, 47, was walking north in the 6300 block of 14th Street West on Friday when she was approached by a detective working in the Manatee County Sheriff Office’s special investigations division, according to a sheriff’s office report.

After the undercover detective invited Baker into his car and the talk turned to sex, she said her fee would be two double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu at McDonald’s, the report states.

The detective bought the burgers for $2.75 and then Baker told him that he could also tip her $40 for her services, according to the report. After Baker gave the detective directions to a vacant lot, Baker was arrested by other agents and charged with prostitution, the report states.

The report does not indicate if Baker got to finish eating the food before she was taken to jail.

I think she was low-balling the guy. Probably hoping to gain a repeat customer where she would venture outside of the Dollar Menu.

I want to know how 2 dollar burgers cost $2.75. Is the Florida "dollar menu" misnamed or do they have hellacious taxes there?

What makes you think people in Florida can add?

I wonder if she is working a loophole or something. Hope they let her finish her meal, at least it wasn't METH or whatever. I know those burgers can't be good for you but no need going hungry either.

Here our dollar menu is actually made up of menu items that actually cost a dollar. I have given up McDonald's a long time ago, after reading an article about McD's in Time magazine.

You know how you get two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun? Well, those burgers really are all beef. I read that McDonald's is the world's largest purchaser of beef eyes.

I'll let you do the figuring that one out.

I just saw where Snopes says the beef eyes thing is false. I do remember reading the article b/c I was sitting in the waiting room at a doctor's office. Those I never forget. Maybe my article was a play on the rumor or something....?

In all fairness, I can positively insist that I have seen a McDonald's Dollar Menu where all of the items were priced at least $1.29 or higher. I can't remember where - it was probably either at O'Hare Airport or Union Station in Chicago (or maybe one of the franchises in the Loop) but basically it was obvious that, with all their other menu items' prices jacked through the roof due to location, they were simply being lazy and leaving the normally $1 items listed in the same place on the menu board as you would see it anywhere else. I repressed the urge to mock the "dollar" menu to my cashier, as I imagined he (and all his coworkers) had already heard thousands of jokes/complaints about it. I've been to other McDonald's with high prices that either listed the Dollar Menu items elsewhere on the menu board, or simply removed the "Dollar Menu" sign over the list (I think I've seen one that simply called it the Super Savings Menu or something.)
