Isaiah Nicholas repeatedly told his mother he did not want to die after being shot in the head in Houston

HPD: Stray bullet strikes 4-year-old boy in head
    MARCH 31 2012
HOUSTON -- A 4-year-old boy was struck in the temple by a bullet when a shooter fired into a house in northeast Houston on Saturday afternoon.
"Bullets came everywhere," said Robert Ceasar, walking through his house. "Richocheting all through the place."
Bullet holes now riddle the Ceasar family’s house in northeast Houston after a young man arguing with his girlfriend allegedly opened fire in the front lawn. And a 4-year-old boy, Isaiah Nicholas, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound in his temple.
Robert Ceasar, the boy’s grandfather, was getting ready to watch Saturday night’s March Madness game when the gunfire erupted.
"Little grandbaby right there," he said, gesturing into his bedroom. "I was laying in the bed."
Across the hall, he said, six children sat in a nursery, watching television and eating fried chicken.
That’s when the boyfriend of a woman just visiting the house dropped by, witnesses said. The couple reportedly got into an argument in the front lawn. Then he allegedly pulled a pistol and started firing into the walls of the house.
"Like it’s war, man," Ceasar said. "Somebody coming in here and trying to kill all of us."

The girlfriend reportedly screamed at the gunman, telling him children were inside the front rooms. One of the bullets struck the 4-year-old boy in the temple, passed through his mouth and lodged in his shoulder. Nonetheless, he was conscious and alert when police arrived, and he was expected to survive the attack.
"I was just panicking because I thought he was coming in the house and it was just like he was coming to kill," said Lisa Ceasar, the boy’s mother.
Police apparently know the identity of the suspected gunman.

‘Mamma I don’t want to die:’ Desperate words of boy, four, in critical condition after he was shot in the head Boy's grandmother said there was an argument just before firing started
Isaiah Nicholas's two-year-old brother was covered in blood next to him
Houston police say suspect is known, but has not been apprehended

A four-year-old boy is in a coma after being shot in the head by a man who fired on a group of children playing.
Holding his mother's hand in an ambulance after the shooting in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Isaiah Nicholas repeatedly told her: 'Mamma, I don't want to die'.
He was today said to be unconscious in a critical condition at the city's Hermann Memorial Children's Hospital, with his parents at his side.

Houston Police Department said the suspect is known, but still at large.
There were reports of an argument shortly before the shooting began.
Lisa Ceasar, Isaiah's grandmother, said she heard arguing outside at about 5pm and walked out to her porch at the moment a man began firing, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The 47-year-old said the man was aiming at the porch where she stood and a game room where six children, including Isaiah, were playing.

She said: 'It all happened so fast, but I went into shock.
'I saw that man shooting up my house and the bullets flying.'
Ms Ceasar ran inside and found Isaiah, her oldest grandson, with a gunshot wound to the head and his two-year-old brother, Adrian Nicholas, next to him covered in blood.
The children and adults at Ms Ceasar's house in northeast Houston were just about to eat dinner, having ordered chicken.

Along with three of her grandchildren, Ms Ceasar and her husband Robert were in the house as well as their daughter Rosharone Nicholas, whose friend brought her own three children.
The daughter's friend reportedly left the home for quarter of an hour to go to a local shop and the suspect is said to have followed her back to the house, where an argument began.

When he was first found, Isaiah's family said he was alert and able to speak, but he later slipped into a coma and was connected to a life support machine.
Ms Ceasar said: 'It was so hard to see my grandbaby like that. I just pray he can pull through.'
Figures released by the FBI last year showed that of 12,996 murders in the United States in 2010, more than two-thirds - 8,775 - were caused by firearms.

And according to the Child Trends DataBank, an American research body, guns were used in 85 per cent of teen homicides in 2007.

    HOUSTON -
The parents of a 4-year-old boy who was shot in the head said they are cautiously optimistic that he will make a full recovery.

Isaiah Nicholas is in critical condition at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.

He isn't able to open his eyes or talk, his parents said. They said doctors will perform more tests to determine his long-term prognosis.
It's hard to see my son laying there with a freaking hole in his head," said Greg Nicholas, Isaiah's father. "I think he's tough. Tougher than me. He has the strength of 50 men."
    [...]
He came into the room saying, 'Mom, my head hurts,' and then blood started gushing everywhere," said Rosharon Ceaser about her son.

She and the child's father hope the gunman is caught soon and made to pay for what he did to their child.

My baby boy's name is Isaiah Nathanael. As soon as I saw his name I thought of my own son lying asleep in the living room with his Granny who is 2yrs older than his Granny.
Isaiah means Salvation of God, the Lord helps me. And Nathanael means God gave. I chose it without knowing the meaning until I looked it up after he was born just becoz and it fits him perfectly given the circumstances that me and my husband were in when we found out I was expecting. And not too sound petty but I nearly shit a brick when my BFF told me she was naming her son who was born a month earlier Isaiah. I'm still not completely over but whatever.

This babies name means Isaiah: Salvation of God & Nicholas: Victory of the people. With such a beautiful name and so many people by his side rooting for his recovery I pray that he makes it through this as ok as one can when shot in the head by a moron.
Idiots with guns. When will people learn that violence doesn't solve anything just causes more problems. I hope they catch the no named fucker who did this. I'm sure his name doesnt have half as much meaning as Isaiah Nicholas does!
Razors pain you, rivers are damp, acid stains you, drugs cause cramps, gun aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful, you might as well live.

The man accused of shooting a little boy in the face after opening fire outside a northeast Houston home day care Saturday has been arrested and charged by police.
Candale Dekota Hall, 24, was charged with aggravated assault for shooting 4-year-old Isaiah Nicholas.
Hall and his ex-girlfriend had just broken up and the two met at a corner store so she could return his things, according to court documents.
After leaving the store, the ex-girlfriend drove to a home in the 9200 block of Madera, which also doubles as a day care.
Police said even though the woman saw Hall following her, she continued to the home so she could braid Isaiah’s mother’s hair.
She parked in a lot next door to the house, and Hall parked in the street.
The ex-girlfriend told police Hall began to yell at her when he exited the vehicle, then pulled out a gun and started shooting. Police said he thought she was going to visit another man.
The woman said she begged Hall to stop because there were children inside. Police said he ignored her -- and the multiple day care signs posted in front of the home.
“He had a gun and started shooting there. And she was screaming telling him ‘Don’t shoot into the room because that’s where the kids at,’” Lisa Cesar, Isaiah’s grandmother, said. “I was just panicking because I thought he was coming in the house, and, it was just like he was coming to kill.”
Isaiah and five other children were eating and watching television in the nursery when bullets pierced through the wall.
His mother heard the gunfire, then saw her son drop to the floor. One of the bullets entered his right cheek, traveled through his mouth, pierced his tongue and sinus cavity, then exited his left shoulder.
Isaiah was rushed to Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital for immediate surgery. He remained in pediatric intensive care with severe trauma Tuesday, but doctors expect him to survive.
Hall turned himself into police Tuesday. His bail was set at $20,000.

    $20K bond is a joke.

Man charged with shooting four-year-old in head apologizes to family in church
HOUSTON— Candale Hall, the man charged with shooting four-year-old Isaiah Nicholas in the head on March 31, made a public apology Sunday at a church fundraiser held for the young victim.

The fundraiser was to help the family with the little survivor’s massive amount of medical bills.

Isaiah was front and center for Sunday’s service at the Community of Faith Church, where he showed the congregation how he is thriving. Despite his visible scars, many would never know the child was once clinging to life after being shot in the head.

On that day, Hall was arguing with a woman—a friend of Isaiah’s mother -- when he suddenly pulled out a gun and began shooting outside a home day care in the 9200 block of Madera.

A bullet went through the house and into a room where six children were playing and struck Isaiah. According to court documents, the bullet entered his right cheek, traveled through his mouth, pierced his sinus cavity and tongue, then exited his left shoulder.

Isaiah was admitted to the pediatric unit at Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital, where he shocked many with his miraculous recovery, but now his family is struggling to pay his medical expenses.

Hall took the microphone at the fundraiser and apologized to the family for what he did.

“I’m very sorry for what happened. My intentions were never to harm y'all or nothing in that way,” Hall said as he struggled to compose himself. “I’m sorry. Please, just forgive me.”

Isaiah’s family accepted his apology. His mother hugged Hall and his father shook his hand. His grandmother also offered words of comfort.

Although Isaiah is doing much better, he still has trouble breathing at times.

“I would say it made him much older because he don’t look at things the way he used to. He wants to take care of his parents. He just wants to do things,” said Lisa Ceasar, Isaiah’s grandmother.

Such a beautiful little boy with an "I'm too cute to be mad at" smile. I'm so glad he's gonna be okay.

I really hope that asswipe goes to prison for attempted murder. It doesn't matter what he intended to do, what matters is what he did and he fired that gun with grandma screaming at him that there were babies in there and he still fired it. He deserves the harshest penalty possible. His tears and apologies don't do a thing for me and I hope this baby's family are not swayed by his apologies for them to forgive him.
