4yo Daniel Corby Allegedly Killed By Mom Patricia Corby

Former Neighbors Speak About Mom Accused In Son's Death
Patricia Corby, 36, Booked On Suspicion Of First-Degree Murder, According To Jail Records
    March 31, 2012

SAN DIEGO -- A woman who arrived at the San Diego police substation in Del Mar Heights with her dead 4-year-old son in her car has been arrested in connection with his death.
Patricia Corby, 36, showed up at the department's Northwestern Division substation on El Camino Real at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday, flagged down a patrol sergeant in the parking lot and told him she needed help, according to
    Diego police Lt. Ernie Herbert.

She asked for help and directed the sergeant to her parked car where the child was not breathing, Herbert said.
The sergeant began CPR and called for help. Paramedics were summoned and the boy was later declared dead, Herbert said. After questioning, Corby was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to jail records.
Herbert said detectives determined Corby killed her son in her apartment on Torrey Circle in the Torrey Hills area of Carmel Valley before bringing him to the police station. The boy's father was at work at the time, Herbert said.
Police would not release the motive for the crime. The boy's name was not released, nor was the apparent cause of death. An autopsy is pending.
Corby is being held in the Las Colinas Detention Center, Herbert said.
Few details about the case have been released, but 10News has learned that the family of three lived in an apartment in La Jolla before moving in August.
Neighbors at the La Jolla complex told 10News Corby's husband Duane is an accountant and that she is a stay-at-home mother. 10News was told that they stayed inside the apartment for the most part. Neighbors said that when the family did go outside, they kept their child covered up, almost as if to hide him.[...]

SAN DIEGO -- Authorities released the name Monday of a toddler who was killed -- allegedly by his mother -- over the weekend at his family's Torrey Hills-area apartment.
Daniel Corby, who turned 4 last Monday, was pronounced dead by medics near a San Diego police substation on El Camino Real in Carmel Valley about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Minutes earlier, the boy's mother, 36-year-old Patricia Corby, had flagged down a patrol sergeant driving out of a parking lot at the precinct house and asked for help with her son, who was unconscious and not breathing in her car, SDPD Lt. Ernie Herbert said.
After questioning Corby, detectives arrested her on suspicion of murdering the child.
An autopsy has been conducted, but a cause-of-death ruling was on hold pending completion of further postmortem tests, the medical examiner reported.
Police disclosed no suspected motive for the alleged domestic slaying in the 4600 block of Torrey Circle. The boy's father was at work at the time of his son's death, Herbert said.

A Carmel Valley woman believed to have fatally drowned her 4-year-old autistic son in a bathtub pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of murder and assault on a child.

Patricia Corby, 36, is charged in connection with the death of her son, Daniel. She stood in the courtroom with her head bowed and her shoulders slumped and shaking as a lawyer entered the plea on her behalf.

Her dark hair hung over her face.

After hearing a few details about the case from a prosecutor, San Diego Superior Court Judge Michael Smyth set Corby’s bail at $10 million, citing the seriousness of the charges, her ties to Mexico — which make her a potential flight risk — and her personal safety.
    [...]

Deputy District Attorney Dino Paraskevopoulos said in court that Corby told the sergeant that she had killed her child. The sergeant found the boy wrapped in a blanket in the back seat of the car. The child was wet and water was foaming around his mouth.
    [...]

Authorities searched the apartment Corby shared with her husband and found that the bathtub still contained five to six inches of water.

In an interview that day, she told police that the boy was autistic and that she didn’t believe he would have a life or a future without her, so she decided to kill him, the prosecutor said.

Corby’s husband was not home when the boy was drowned.

Paraskevopoulos said the husband was at the courthouse Wednesday but too distraught to attend his wife’s arraignment.

When arguing for the high bail, the prosecutor said the husband had expressed some concern about whether Corby would flee to Mexico if she was released. Corby is a Mexican citizen but is married to an American and has lived here for more than 11 years.

Oh I really dont like women like her. They give off a Sante Chimes vibe but w/o the cons murder and multiple marriages. Ok Im exagerating but still like they coddle their sons to the point where they feel like the kid wont have a decent life w/o them. Autistic or not I'm sure this bitch would have done it becoz she is just that fucking delusional.

Let's not forget they were concealing their son's condition. I think they were torturing him and she eventually decided to kill him because of the damage done.

Also on D'D Front Page Tired Of Caring For Autistic Son, Mother Admits Drowning Him In Bathtub

SAN DIEGO, CA –* A mother in California admitted to investigators that she drowned her 4-year-old autistic son in the bathtub because she was tired of taking care of him.
Back in March, 36-year-old Patricia Corby drove to a police substation and confessed to drowning her son, Daniel. Police would find her son wrapped in a blanket in the backseat of her SUV. *Efforts were made to revive Daniel, who was diagnosed with a high*likelihood*for autism, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Corby was arrested and charged with murder and assault on a child.
She would later tell Walter Escobar, an investigator with the District Attorney’s Office, that she drowned her son because she had no life due to her whole existence being dedicated to Daniel. She had initially thought of drowning herself, but didn’t want leave Daniel behind. So she filled a bathtub with a few inches of water, placed Daniel inside, then held him down until he died.
She said she tried to follow through with her original plan of drowning herself, but was unable to do so. Realizing what she had done was wrong, she decided to drive to the police station with Daniel’s body so she could turn herself in.…

    As expected:
A San Diego Superior Court judge sentenced Patricia Corby, a Carmel Valley woman who drowned her 4-year-old autistic child in a bathtub in March, to 15 years to life in prison Monday.

Corby had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Dec. 27 for killing her son, Daniel, on March 31. Judge Charles Gill handed down the sentence at a hearing where distraught relatives of Daniel blasted the 37-year-old mother for killing her son.

“You are a loathsome person, and you deserve everything you get,” said Duane Corby, the boy’s father.

During the hearing, Patricia Corby sobbed loudly and hung her head, at one point moaning, “Stop, stop,” at the harsh comments from family members.
    [...]

Family members who spoke at the hearing condemned Corby, calling her selfish and self-absorbed.

Janettte Corby, an aunt, said she wanted her to feel “unspeakable sorrow and shame” forever. She said the family was devastated by the death of “our little guy,” Daniel, calling it “absolutely the worst thing that cold have ever happened in our lives.”

Daniel was diagnosed as being at a high risk for autism when he was a year old, but family members said he had begun to make progress.

The boy could count to 50, knew all of the letters of the alphabet and Duane Corby said his son was on track to be in a mainstream kindergarten class.

Daniel was murdered just a week after his fourth birthday.

The aunt said, "You did the most selfish and heinous thing. You murdered him in cold blood. Part of our hearts stopped beating the stars went out in the sky."

She also said Daniel was probably looking down from heaven asking, "Mama, why did you kill me, when I was doing so well? ... May what you did haunt you. May you feel endless guilt and grief."

The victim's father told his wife, "I hate you with all my heart and soul. You killed our handsome little boy who is without sin … he had an IQ of 100 … you hit him on the head and drowned Daniel … You are a selfish person. To you I say adios."

He also said he hoped the Patricia Corby "suffers in prison."

Tired of caring for him? Like he was difficult in some way, more so than a "normal" child? Hell, my son could not count to 50 when he was four!

Can't excuse what she did, but I can't help thinking she was coping alone, possibly in an abusive relationship. Autism has a whole spectrum, he may well have been clever, but could have been draining in different ways, OCD etc? Daddy's comment made me shudder "To you I say adios" - Is that an apropriate thing to say? - I think he played a part anyway, if only pecking away at her for months/years until she just couldn't cope anymore.
