Luke Harper, 28, of Kemble Street, was arrested and charged with menacing a police officer, a class D felony, criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, police said.
A Utica Police officer responded at about 6:30 p.m. to a residence on Kemble Street in Utica to assist a man with retrieving his belongings from his former apartment.
An officer met the man’s former roommate, Harper, at the door and told him why he was there. Harper let him inside and the officer stood by while the caller gathered his possessions, police said.
Harper brandished a machete, pointed it at the officer and using a vulgarity, told him to leave the residence, police said.
The officer drew his service weapon and the man dropped the knife. Another knife was also located on Harper, police said.
