SANDSTONE, Minn. (WCCO) – A 20-year-old man is accused of squeezing his 7-week-old daughter hard enough to fracture at least 21 bones.

Upon questioning by police, Olsen admitted that he had squeezed his daughters arm because she was crying. Police said he began crying and admitted he “just squeezed too much.” He then admitted to police that he had also squeezed or twisted the child’s arms and legs other times.

He claimed he did not know he was doing damage, the complaint says, and he said he was only trying to get his daughter to be quiet so he could sleep.

If convicted, Olsen faces up to 20 years in prison on each assault charge, 10 years for malicious punishment of a child and/or 5 years in prison for the second count of malicious punishment.

Well, at least you're polite about it I suppose. But if you expect anyone to take you at your word, you could start by explaining how the reporter twisted the facts. These two in particular:

The information was not given by a blog, but by a newspaper. Are you saying that the CBS site is providing false information? If so, that would be illegal and something you should take up directly with them. I'm quite positive that were they to retract the article due to that, no one would have a problem with removing or updating this thread.

For accuracy's sake though, here's the original court order/probable cause statement regarding his charges. I've read through it, and the news article makes no claims that aren't documented in it. In fact, the court order is more damning:

Let's see. Reading the complaint, it says that on 3/22 the parents, Paige Demarre and William Robert Olsen, brought the baby, "S.A.O.", to the hospital because they noticed while changing her diapers that she had a swollen leg, immobile arm, and seemed to be in pain. They never stated how long these particular conditions endured before they decided to do something about it, but also mentioned by her parents are these facts: 1) Loss of appetite on 3/12 (10 days prior); 2) There was a "crunchy like feel around [her] left shoulder blade"; 3) The baby seemed to bruise easily. Later on, Olsen admitted to the police interviewer he had squeezed the baby's arms, her legs, and he mentioned that he'd been picking her up by her limbs, solely a leg her, and an arm there, but denied dropping her, throwing her, etc.

Given her broken shoulder, as well as her ribs, skull, and of course her arms and legs, he's not telling the whole truth. He crushed her and all over her body, not just her arms and legs.

Evidently, he thinks that's the way to get a baby to shut up. Hurt her more. He never says he did any of the basic stuff -- checking diapers, feeding, comforting, etc. No, he went right to the pain.

I'm not feeling the forgiveness for the monster. I can understand irritation, anger at the loss of sleep. I've been there. I can also say that it lead me to do something others won't -- sleep with my baby. It worked for us. Given hambeast Bob's giant complex -- "Bob CRUSH bad baby!!" -- that's not a good answer for him. Maybe he should have taken parenting classes before having a baby. Maybe he should have moved to another room. Maybe he should have taken a sleeping pill and slept through the baby's crying. But there is no way he should get that baby back in his care, nor have another put in his care. If he doesn't spend time in prison, he should make up his mind that fatherhood is not for him. NOT FOR HIM!

ok well you guys obviously didn't understand my comment so just let it go. the point of my freaking out is because the news reports changed shit around and made it sounds great for tv/internet stories. there is ALOT more to the story than what was written or said on the news. does the news tell you that they had him in a room questioning him for hours, no. doe sit tell you that they are running tests on the baby for brittle bone disease and other diseases, no. so just stop judging something you know NOTHING about. if your family member got blamed for something that, to people who know him/her and are around them daily, would not have done or even thought about doing. even if it was an accident and he dropped her or something, someone would have witnessed it or noticed bruises or whatever. close families would find that shit out if they are around almost everyday. so dont be so gullible and believe everything you read. what will you say if next week the story is on the news about "loving dad was wrongly convicted". just wait and see. then you can come tell me he is ruining our lives.

Squeezed....and twisted....by his own admission. A seven week old child had her limbs squeezed and twisted for what? Being a baby? This was no accident and he is a monster. If she has osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) it would've shown as soon as she was born given the nature of childbirth. We just had an election. Let's see, who should I vote for? The news surely won't tell me what I need to know. The candidate will be a politician and tell me whatever he thinks I want to hear. His debates will be masterly exercises in obfuscation and prevarication. What should I vote regarding proposition #? Should I believe the ads put out by special interest groups? Should I believe the editorials written by the talking heads?

Oh, and that guy that escaped from the prison, I don't need to worry about that or lock my doors. And the girl that there's an amber alert for, just remember, she's probably with a loving parent, not really missing.

I know. I should believe what somebody tells me on FB or right here in a comment on a forum or in a blog, because they're so unbiased and will provide complete information.

wow... again... none of you are understanding my point. the news reporters can change and twist things around. end of story. not evry kind of news story. elections and missing children are different. this was an accident that occurred and reporters are still harassing the family trying to get someone else to slip up and say something they can twist to make it worse. the only reason i posted on this stupid blog or whatever this is, is because i actually do know the truth. believe what you want. all i was asking for is that the story be taken down to avoid anymore drama attached to it. im sticking by what i know and trying to let others know the truth. if i didnt know 100% that he didnt do it, i wouldnt be wasting my time with this shit. id be mad and pissed off at him. i had sites like this and wish his name could be left out of them as well.

I think sam1479 thinks that the reporters who do crime watch stories are different from the others--except maybe for the paparazzi. In this case, we have the charging documents, so that brings a level of dispassionate observation of fact reported by an officer of the court--not the biased news media. Still, she argues.

This will go to court, the defense can bring forward any as yet unknown facts that could prove Mr. Olsen's innocence. Perhaps then, the family may sue the media for libel. Meanwhile, we'll watch and talk amongst ourselves.

Advice to Sam: (1) Don't go googling yourself or your loved ones. Nothing good can come of it when you find sites like this. (2) As this story ages, this thread will go idle. Leave it alone. Unfortunately for some, too many of these idle threads get revived by family and friends of the subjects, who don't seem to realize they re-open the case to new interest and bring abuse down afresh.

How is the probably cause statement twisted? Did he not admit to squeezing his baby? Lifting her by just an arm or a leg? Have you even read it? They tell the ER doctors/nurse that their baby bruised easily, so unless they lied about it, why DIDN'T you or anyone else notice excess bruises?

If he's found innocent this thread could either be removed or updated at that point. I still can't imagine lifting a healthy baby up by her leg alone not being an asshole move regardless of injury but whatever. If they don't find brittle bones, and he is guilty, will you be back to tell us so? I doubt it.

Practically every person who has ever committed a crime has at least one person who believes they couldn't have done the things they've done. People never want to believe they could possibly have been so mislead, but it happens. ALL the time.

I'm not saying he's positively guilty, but I'm afraid the odds and facts are highly in favour of it.

Sam1479, I worked in Television for 12 years part of that time in the News Dept. Tell you as shitty as reporting can sometimes be, they take great lengths to makes sure the source and information is credible and accurate. There are always those mistakes and unreliable news sites but the hard and fast rule is the big wigs are putting out the facts as best they can.

I suspect that the only part we are "missing" here, not that it ain't obvious enough, that William Olsen is a particular supreme asshole, the kind that stanks in just about anything he does, parenting being the ultimate fail.

I'd like to know why the mother didn't do more and or sooner as she undoubtedly saw her baby in pain crying and abused. . . . did she partake? seriously fucked up. Tell us about her something the news hasn't mentioned much on.

It doesn't need to tell us that. It's common sense to rule out other causes and not unusual that they would run those tests. If the baby has something wrong, they'll drop the charges. But the vast majority of the time, the tests only prove that the asshat is a baby beater.

Hi Sam1479,

I understand that you love this person and you want to believe that he isn't capable of this but unfortunately overwhelming evidence points to the contrary.

There comes a time when we must not blindly defend someone because the truth is NO ONE knows what another human being is capable of until it happens. I'm sure nobody thought that the quiet guy who worked at the chocolate factory was trying to make sex zombies out of local boy and men and then eating them. No one thought that the guy dressing up as a clown for charities had a bunch dead people under his home. I'm quite sure that you could have found a bunch of people who would say "noooo...he could never do that".

The person that you should be defending is that blessing that was broken by someone that should have been protecting her. Just because you love someone doesn't mean that you have to be foolish about it, love him but be aware of what he has done and help that mother deal with the pain that she must be going through.
