Man Accused Of Killing, Dismembering Friend In His Bedroom

A 27-year-old accused of killing and dismembering a man at his family’s Tacoma home has been charged with first-degree murder.

Due to be arraigned Monday in Pierce County Superior Court, John Jones, Jr., is accused of strangling 54-year-old Wayne Williams and then spending several hours cutting apart the other man.

Tacoma police were called to Jones’ home Wednesday after his mother discovered the dismembered man, according to a statement from Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist.

Officers arrived at the residence, located in the 2300 block of Tacoma Avenue South, to find Williams’ remains packed in several bags. Investigators believe Jones intended to dispose of the body.

Medical examiners determined Williams suffered numerous defensive puncture wounds to a hand and head, and that he was strangled. The victim’s legs and his head had been severed after he was dead, likely with a hand saw recovered in the bedroom.

Police contend Jones killed Williams in his room on March 18 or March 19. The dismembered body was left in the room until Wednesday, when Jones’ mother noticed the smell.

Jones’ mother, who lives in the home with Jones, his younger brother and his uncle, told officers she noticed a foul odor that morning.

A news release from the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office said that Jones’ mother entered Jones’ bedroom and discovered a body lying on the floor on top of a mattress. The head and the legs were in separate bags, presumably for disposal, police said.

Investigators questioned Jones, who told them he and Williams used drugs together, but claimed he didn’t know how he died and that Williams owed money to people, prosecutors said.

Initially, Jones attempted to blame local gangs, including the Bloods and the Crips, for the killing, but no evidence supported this, the news release said.

Prosecutors said Jones’ efforts to dismember Williams’ body with a hand saw took place over several hours, at least. Shoes and socks were still on the severed legs, they said.

Police said they determined the slaying occurred in Jones’ room on Mar. 18 or 19. Authorities said Jones was the only person in the home who accessed his bedroom during that time frame.

Police said Jones suggested that he could have been asleep in the bedroom while Williams was killed and dismembered. He slept on a couch in the living room Tuesday night, rather than in his bedroom with the dismembered body, prosecutors said.

Jones' mother was the one who found the body, which had been placed under a makeshift tent in Jones' room. When she notified police, Jones denied knowledge of the crime.

"Police find it suspicious when there's a dead body in your bedroom, and the body has been disremembered, and you claim not to know what happened," said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist.

I feel pretty safe in saying it's a typo but a hilarious one.

That's why the guy claims not to know what happened... he disremembered the victim.

Police say that on March 18 or 19,*John Jones Jr. strangled 54-year-old Wayne Williams in the bedroom of a home he shares with his mother, younger brother and an uncle. He then used a hand saw to start dismembering the corpse for future disposal. Problem was that he was taking too long to dispose of the body, and Williams was quickly starting to smell pretty ripe. On March 21, Jones’ mother noticed a foul smell coming from her son’s room and went in to investigate. It wasn’t hard to determine the source of the odor as Williams’ corpse was lying on a mattress without a head or legs. Jones had already removed them — the legs still wearing socks and shoes — and placed them in garbage bags. When police interviewed John Jones, he stated he regularly hung out with Williams and they occasionally did drugs together, but he did not know how he*ended*up dead and in several pieces*inside his bedroom. He did offer a possible scenario, however. He said Williams owed people money and may have been killed and dismembered by the Crips or the Bloods while they both slept in the bedroom. As believable as that story is, an autopsy report showed that Williams put up a bit of a fight before he died of manual strangulation, having suffered*numerous defensive, puncture-style wounds to his hand and head. Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty, a claim his mother agrees with. She does not believe her son has done any of the things he has been accused of .
