http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?se...ker&id=8563758HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities are searching for a rapist who followed a woman at a METRO bus stop on Houston's south side, then attacked her. Police are now talking about their investigation into a series of sexual assaults near METRO bus stops. Four total have taken place since the start of the year and different weapons were used each time.
Carolina Adams waits for a METRO bus on Old Spanish Trail, where on the afternoon February 22, another woman exiting a bus was followed off by a METRO rider, hit with a beer bottle on the head and sexually assaulted in a nearby field off Produce Row.
Police say the incident started when the 31-year-old female victim was walking to a METRO bus stop located at Wayside Drive and Lawndale Blvd. and an unknown Hispanic male approached her attempting to engage in conversation. The victim refused to interact with the suspect, and tried to avoid him by boarding a METRO bus. The male suspect followed her aboard, where he became increasingly aggressive.
"I'm just speechless. You just don't think about that getting on public transportation," Adams said.
HPD sex crimes investigators say the young Hispanic suspect should be recognizable. He is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens to early twenties. He has a thin build, approximately 5 foot 7, with various exposed tattoos up and down both arms and his neck, including a star tattoo on the right side of his head and a tattoo of a woman (possibly the Virgin Mary) on his right forearm.
Some METRO riders say at times the atmosphere can be uncomfortable.
"I'm hit on or spoken to at least by one person at least every single time, and it's very aggressive," said Adams.
Since January 1, four sexual assaults have happened near a METRO bus stop, at different locations around Houston. As of now, investigators don't believe they are linked since different weapons have been used -- a knife, gun and beer bottle. However, METRO police say a woman should never hesitate to get a driver involved when she feels uncomfortable.

According to investigators, the man first started harassing the 31-year old victim near a bus stop on Wayside. The harassment continued after she boarded and even when she hopped off in the 5600 of Old Spanish Trail. Police say he followed her, hit her with a beer bottle and then forced her into a nearby field on Produce Row, where he sexually assaulted her.
Since January 1, we've learned four women have been sexually assaulted near METRO bus stops at different locations around the city. Police want people to pay attention to this man's distinctive tattoos, a star on the right side of his head and a woman who might be the Virgin Mary on his right forearm. They are trying to identify him, while also encouraging patrons to seek help from bus drivers if they feel unsafe.
"They can contact the dispatcher, who would be in contact with the police almost immediately," METRO Police Department Asst. Chief Craig Goralski said.
Sharon Johnson tries to never be distracted.
"I'm looking at my surroundings all the time," she said.
Police say it's possible that two of the four attacks are related because the suspect descriptions are similar.

Suspect arrested in brutal sex assault near METRO bus stop
March 13, 2012
http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?se...cal&id=8579184HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A suspect accused of targeting a woman at a METRO bus stop and raping her has been arrested.
No one answered the door at Roberto Ramirez's east Harris County apartment. That's because police say the 21-year-old accused rapist was hiding out at a home in Abilene with his girlfriend. Police there arrested him Tuesday afternoon on a Crime Stoppers tip.
Houston investigators used DNA to tie Ramirez to the February 22 rape of a 31-year-old woman near a METRO bus stop. Investigators say Ramirez first started harassing the victim near a bus stop on Wayside and Lawndale. They say he then followed the victim off the bus near the 5600 block of Old Spanish Trail and hit her with a beer bottle before raping her in a nearby field on Produce Row.
"For a pretty young guy, he's pretty dangerous and that's what our concern was from the get go, and to work as fast as we can to get him off the streets," said Pedro Moreno with the Houston Police Department.
Since the beginning of the year, four women have been attacked near METRO bus stops at different locations across Houston. In light of Tuesday's arrest, investigators still don't believe they're connected.

According to court documents, the victim's rape kit yielded a DNA profile that matched that of Ramirez in a database from an unsolved 2008 rape case. He's expected to be charged in that case as well.
Ramirez, 21, is charged with aggravated sexual assault of an adult.
He was released from prison in November 2011, out on parole for a robbery conviction. He also has prior convictions for drug possession, theft and criminal trespass. Authorities say Ramirez is a member of the gang '59 PIRU.'
Ramirez is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail. He's expected to be returned to Houston later Tuesday. Bond has been set at $50,000.

Man arrested in brutal sex assault near METRO bus stop now facing another charge for 2008 rape
march 26 2012
http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?se...cal&id=8595565HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man already in jail for a brutal sex assault near a METRO bus stop has been charged in a second rape case.
Roberto Ramirez is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of an adult. The most recent charge stems from a rape case that happened on March 15, 2008 in the 3500 block of Brock Street. Court documents state the female victim was approached by Ramirez, who asked her for a cigarette. She complied and then Ramirez allegedly punched her in the head, causing her to lose consciousness.
The woman told investigators she awoke as Ramirez was pulling her into a nearby yard. She says Ramirez then choked and raped her.
She took a rape kit examination and the DNA came back to match Ramirez, according to court documents.
Ramirez was already arrested for a previous rape charge. In that case, the victim said she noticed Ramirez following her to the bus stop on February 22, 2012. She says Ramirez got on the bus after her and exited the bus when she did. Ramirez then allegedly hit her on the head with a bottle and took her behind a building where he raped her. The victim went to the hospital, had a rape kit done and the DNA came back to match Ramirez as well.
He was arrested on March 13 in Abilene after a Crime Stoppers tip.
Bond has been set at $50,000 in each case.
Ramirez, 21, was released from prison in November 2011, on parole for a robbery conviction. He also has prior convictions for drug possession, theft and criminal trespass. Authorities say Ramirez is a member of the gang '59 PIRU.'
