Daycare Tip Leads to Child Abuse,Neglect Charges Of Jonathan Smith & Laci Welford

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
Two people are under arrest in Jackson County after a daycare worker alerted authorities about injuries to a two-year-old child.

Jonathan Blake Smith, 20, is charged with one count of Felony Child Abuse. Laci Elizabeth Welford, 19, is charged with one count of Misdemeanor Child Neglect.

Investigators said a worker at a Berry Special Place Day Care Center in Moss Point noticed the child had substantial injuries resulting from what appeared to be a severe beating. That worker called investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Within hours, deputies arrested Smith and Welford at their home

If convicted, Welford faces a fine of no more than $1,000 and up to a year in jail. Smith could face up to 10 years in prison.

Gautier couple arrested on child abuse charges, 2-year-old boy beaten, sheriff says

GAUTIER, Mississippi -- A Gautier couple was arrested Wednesday by Jackson County investigators and charged on child abuse offenses relating to a 2-year-old boy that was beaten, Sheriff Mike Byrd said today.

Detectives received a call from personnel at the Berry Special Place Day Care in Helena about a child with injuries, Byrd said.

"They appear to be from a severe beating," Byrd said.

Terminate their rights ASAP. If not then these two will be on the FP of the DD. You shouldnt get miltiple times prove what the people who turned you in already know: that you are a violent selfish pig of an abuser. One strike and you're out IMO. Mandatory sterilization as well so they don't give birth to their next victim.
