An Uptown couple was arrested Tuesday after the woman's 3-year-old daughter suffered second-degree burns from bath water and doctors found "unexplained" bruises on her head, police said.

Doctors at UPMC Mercy's burn unit said the girl's burns were suspicious because they were isolated to specific parts of her body, indicating that she was probably placed in hot water, rather than spread about as they would have been if she had jumped or fallen into hot water and splashed around while trying to get out, police wrote in a criminal complaint.

The girl told police that her mother's boyfriend, 20-year-old Patrick Johnson, was watching her while her mother was at work. Mr. Johnson became angry that she lost a sock and then placed her in the hot water, she told police.

Ms. Farrell later changed her story. She told officers that Mr. Johnson was watching her daughter at work that day when the girl became sick. Mr. Johnson placed the girl in the tub, went to another room and returned when he heard her scream, Ms. Farrell told police.

Mr. Patrick was being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $200,000 bail Tuesday night on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. The mother, Shaquia Farrell, 23, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child and making a false report to a law enforcement officer. Her bail was set at $50,000.

3-Year-Old Scalded In Hill District, Mother Charged

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A couple from Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood is facing charges after the woman’s 3-year-old daughter was scalded last month.

The woman’s boyfriend allegedly got mad at the child after she lost a sock and put her in a bathtub of scalding hot water.

The child suffered second-degree burns.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl’s mother, Shaquia Farrell, initially lied to police about what transpired.
During her initial interview, she said she was home with the 3-year-old and her 3-month-old son. Farrell said she turned the water on in the tub and left the girl alone in the bathroom to go check on the little boy.

When questioned about why the burns to the girl’s body did not line up with what doctors had found, she admitted she was lying to cover up for her boyfriend, 20-year-old Patrick Johnson.

He is also the father of the 3-month-old boy.

Farrell said she was at work when Johnson called her and said. “You’re going to be so mad at me. I hurt your child. You’re never going to want to be with me.”

Johnson allegedly told Farrell that the girl had thrown up and he was getting a bath ready for her. He told the girl to get into the tub as he went into another room when he heard the girl scream.

The girl also had bruises on her face.

Farrell said she did not have those bruises when she left for work, but noticed them when she returned home.

Farrell said Johnson told her the girl fell in her room, possibly on one of her toys.

Farrell is being held on $50,000 bond and is facing several charges including, endangering the welfare of a child and making false reports to police.

Johnson is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

All this over a sock? A sock ffs! I'm trying to wrap my head around this shit but I can't.
If I beat my kid for half the shit these so called parents beat their kids for then I'd be on the D'D weekly. Its gotten to the point where most days my kid doesn't even wear socks to school becoz he takes them off before we even leave the house and I cannot tell you how many packages of socks me and my hubby have had to buy becoz my son just likes to take them off and toss them wherever the fuck he pleases.

All this bitch had to do was turn this sack of bones in and moved the fuck on with her life but instead she decided 2 stick up for it and now her ass is facing the same charges he is. Betcha she regretting that shit now. No dick is worth that.
