The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Magnolia police went to the house early Saturday after
the boy's father returned home and found the little boy covered in blood, authorities said.
The child's throat was slashed from one side to the other and he had a severe head injury, authorities said.
Spurlock told investigators
she was reading the Bible with her son and realized he was possessed with demons, so she
stomped on his chest and face and then cut him with a large kitchen knife while trying to release the demons from his body, police said.

David Spurlock, 59, also was questioned by Magnolia police, but said he was not involved in the incident at the house, about 45 miles northwest of Houston.
"I can't put it together yet," Spurlock told the newspaper by phone from Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, where his son was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Gwen Carter, a Child Protective Services spokeswoman, said the department is investigating the alleged abuse of a child. The agency has not had previous contact with the family, she said.
