Timothy Medsker, 33, his wife Sabrina Medsker, 34, and their 4-month old son Joshua, were reported missing from their Petoskey home on Feb. 23, a week after they failed to appear for several appointments, authorities said.

A young Michigan couple and their 4-month-old son who have been missing for nearly a month left their home "in a hurry," authorities told FoxNews.com.

Timothy Medsker, 33, his wife Sabrina Medsker, 34, and their 4-month old son Joshua, were reported missing from their Petoskey home on Feb. 23, a week after they failed to appear for several appointments, Petoskey Department of Public Safety Det. David Schultz said Wednesday.

Authorities do not believe foul play is involved in the case. Schultz said the family -- who ran a successful commercial cleaning business -- left the area by choice, but left behind sizable amounts of food, toiletries and other everyday items.

"There's nothing in the home that looks like a crime scene," he said. "But something scared them enough to leave in a hurry. It looked like they packed up and left in a hurry."

Schultz said the couple's finances were not believed to be a concern, as their bills were all up to date.

"They had a very successful small business in town cleaning offices and businesses," he said.

The couple worked long hours and were known to be "very private," Schultz said.

Relatives of Timothy Medsker are cooperating with authorities. Petoskey Director of Public Safety John Calabrese told the Orlando Sentinel that the family has ties to Orlando, Chicago and Gary, Ind., and is believed to have spent time in Arizona.

A Michigan family who vanished from their home nearly a month ago is alive and well, authorities told FoxNews.com.

Timothy Medsker, 33, his wife Sabrina Medsker, 34, and their 4-month old son Joshua, were reported missing from their Petoskey home on Feb. 23, a week after they failed to appear for several appointments.

Petoskey Department of Public Safety Det. David Schultz said Tim Medsker called his sister Wednesday afternoon and said he and his family were fine, but offered no explanation as to why they left their home and did not divulge their whereabouts.

"Timothy and Sabrina are very private people and it seems the media pressure made them come forward," Schultz said early Thursday. "They said that they're fine and that they don't want to have any more communication."

The couple will not face any charges and police now consider the case closed. Although authorities do not know the couple's exact location, they are confident the family is safe, Schultz said.

"Our only job was to assist the family, locate them and check on their well-being," he said.

Medsker's sister, Kelly Manthei, told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday that her brother was very reliable and never missed appointments. She told ClickonDetroit.com that she contacted authorities immediately after receiving a call from her brother Wednesday afternoon. The family gave no reason as to why the family abruptly left their home without warning, she told the website.

"He does have a different way of thinking than maybe you and I would, so maybe he feels with the economy being as bad as it is, that he needed to leave," she said. "I honestly, I'm not sure."

I wonder what made them take off...obviously there must be something, to not tell even family where they are and to not want any communication. Unless maybe one of them went off the deep end and the other two are possibly not alive. I wonder if anyone spoke to the wife at all, or if it was just him saying they were all fine.

It might bear more scrutiny by the police before they let this go.

Authorities call off search for missing Michigan family

Updated at 2:15 p.m. ET: PETOSKEY, Mich. – Authorities have called off a search for a Michigan couple after family members say they've been in contact with the missing pair.

"They are fine," Petoskey Director of Public Safety John Calabrese told msnbc.com on Wednesday. "We know they were not vacationing, but we don't know what their motivation was for leaving."

Family members say the Medskers own a cleaning business and described Timothy Medsker as a dedicated worker, never missing a day or shift. The family started to worry about the couple after they didn't return telephone calls.
Police say there was no reason to suspect a crime had occurred, but they had been searching for clues in the disappearance.

Petoskey Detective David Schultz told ABC News it appeared the family left in a hurry from their two-story home on the state's northeast shore.

"All of their personal belongings were there including clothing, computers, food, paperwork – it looked like something spooked them," Schultz told ABC News.

Laura Medsker, mother of Timothy Medsker, offered a message to her son, saying she was worried about the family's welfare.
