    USA! USA! USA!

If the chant USA offends you, take your worthless ass back to where you came from!!!!

But it was just after the trophy presentation when the coach was not proud of the chant coming from Alamo Heights fans.

    "USA, USA, USA," they chanted.

San Antonio Independent School District officials took the chant as a racial insult to a school with all minority players from a school with mostly white ones.

On the KSAT 12 Defenders Facebook page, Santos Villarreal's post reads “this has to stop.”

SAISD Spokeswoman Leslie Price heard about the incident after it had happened.

"This is very disrespectful to our students,” Price said.

She said the district is glad the coach put a stop to the chant immediately and hopes Alamo Heights addresses it quickly.

"It is surprising and it's disappointing to hear that anyone would be out there making those kind of remarks," Price said.

Edison students who attended Saturday's game were shocked when they heard the chant. Some thought the fans of the victors should have been better behaved.

So what would have been acceptable? I see nothing wrong with chanting USA...How is that racist and disrespectful?

That seems like a pretty random thing to just start chanting. Why didn't they start with their school mascot or the fight song or...idk anything but USA.

It sounds to me like both teams were American and from San Antonio, therefore the chant was meant to point out a difference, the obvious one being that the opposing team -- the losing team -- was not white. (Presumably it was composed of a high percentage of Hispanics.) It would have made more sense to chant the winning team's school name. "A-la-mo! A-la-mo!"

Lest we think that this was simply the sensitivity of the losing team getting out of hand, the winning team was apparently dismayed by the chant, too. It was their coach who stopped the chant, their superintendent who apologized. And it has happened before.

Another SAISD school, Lanier High, faced a similar incident within the last year from students in the Cedar Park school district.
Now, I imagine it would be rather funny if the winning team were one of non-white teams that then proceeded to have its fans chanting "USA! USA! USA!" What would the losing white team think about it? Would they join in? The whole silly thing might fade away.

The other team really should just have chanted it right back at them. It's equally relevant for them.

Better yet. They should have chanted this:

Because it would have been FAR more entertaining.

At least for me it would, and in the end, isn't that what really matters?

Yep, it was most def a racial thing. My son's and daughter's schools have competed against these SAISD schools throughout high school and they are terrible to each other in SA. And last year it was our school district (Leander) that Cedar Park High got into trouble for similar actions.
