Guilty Charge For Man Who Infected Toddler With Genital Warts During Rape

A Strafford man is in jail, charged with statutory rape and statutory sodomy against a 2-year-old girl.

Marlin Dallas Lane, 29, was arrested Friday by a detective with the Webster County Sheriff’s Department for crimes allegedly committed two years ago at his home in Webster County.

The alleged victim, who is not being identified, was diagnosed with genital warts by a doctor in October of 2009.

A detective with the sheriff’s department, Rick Hamilton, was eventually contacted by an employee of children’s services regarding allegations of sexual abuse. Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole said the girl wasn’t able to talk when the alleged abuse occurred, but Lane was a suspect at that time.

On Feb. 1, the victim revealed sexual abuse to another employee with children’s services and the next day an interview was arranged with the sheriff’s department to interview the girl. She reportedly told officers that Lane had touched her private areas.

The almost 3-year-old child was interviewed by Children's Services at the time but could not talk in October 2009, said Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole.

Lane was a suspect, Cole said, but there was not enough evidence to charge him at the time, Cole said.

In February of this year, the child was asked again about the incident and said Lane had "poked" her.

The probable cause statement says the incidents occurred at Lane's home in Webster County, where he was caring for the child, between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30, 2009.

Lane was booked into the Webster County Jail on Friday with a bond of $100,000.

He is charged with one count of statutory sodomy in the first degree and one count of statutory rape in the first degree.

This is so sad....that little girl never forgot what that monster did to her....when she was finally old enough to talk and tell someone , it may not be enough to convict him......Horrible!

Oh, God. Genital warts (and treatment for them) are hard enough to deal with as an adult--I can't even begin to imagine how scary and confusing it would be for a toddler who wasn't able to talk to have to submit to being examined and treated...and all the while being unable to express herself.

I hope that they are able to secure a conviction, if he was the nasty beast who gave her the genital warts.

Smack me upside the head, call me an idiot on this, but I have always thought this was one of those untreatable things! I know you can burn/freeze warts in other areas, but have never studied up on the genital warts.

I have a close friend who has genital warts. She has had to have the warts on her insides burned off with the lasers multiple times. I think she said because if left untreated they could cause cancer. She also has creams to use on the ones on the outside.

This is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!

It's a virus. Like other viruses, one may have ongoing outbreaks (kind of like pre-antiviral medication genital herpes), or one may be able to develop antibodies to that particular strain of genital warts, much like one usually develops antibodies after acquiring and recovering from a strain of the common cold (it doesn't help that there are multiple strains that can affect specific parts of one's genitals, and there are some that can cause cervical cancer). Treatments for genital warts, whether one uses creams, lasers, or cryotherapy, can be painful and traumatic. A relative of mine had to have a cone biopsy of her cervix while she was pregnant because she developed genital warts. It was painful and scary for her. I can't begin to imagine how scary it would be for a toddler who cannot speak and knows next to nothing about her body and how it works to have to undergo treatment for genital warts. It makes me want to cry and inflict severe harm on whoever is responsible for her infection.

I agree if on her statement alone, but .....she has genital warts! I imagine it won't be too hard to cut his dick off and send it to the lab.

HERMITAGE, Mo. -- A Hickory County jury convicted a man from Strafford for raping a 2-year-old girl. Marlin Lane faces a prison sentence between 10 and 30 years (life) without chance of parole when he’s sentenced in May for first-degree statutory sodomy.

The jury issued the verdict on Friday. The case was moved here from Webster County to try to ensure a fair outcome. The charge was filed last year, about two years after investigators believe the abuse occurred.

Investigators say the toddler's mother discovered what was happening when her daughter tested positive for genital [warts]. Marlin Lane had the same sexually transmitted disease.

Webster County Prosecuting Attorney Danette Padgett said the young child had to take the stand but Padgett also was able to show jurors video of an interview done at a Child Advocacy Center, so the girl didn’t have to repeat all that she remembers before jurors.

I'm not a big fan of the death penalty (not in theory but only in practice) but here's a case where I can only concur: this is a hanging offense.
