Wasn't sure where to post this... Neighbors reported this apartment for animal abuse, Humane Society arrived and noticed the funky smell, and called the fire department. They entered and found several live cats and dogs, several dead ones, one recently-departed lady in the bathroom, and... a mummy. Icky-poo. This is in the Baden neighborhood in North St. Louis City. Not exactly the best part of town, sad to say... video at the link above.

A horrific discovery inside a North st. Louis apartment building. The body of a woman, the mummified body of a long-dead man, several dead dogs and cats and more animals that have survived.

Neighbor’s tips led officials found two human bodies inside. One, a woman had apparently been dead ten day to two weeks. The other body is that of a man who might have been dead for years. Police describe the man’s body as, mummified.

Two dogs and six cats were rescued from inside the two-story apartment building. At least three more dogs and three more cats were found dead inside amid piles of debris, newspapers and a pair of human corpses.

Neither of the bodies has yet been identified. Neighbors told police that they last saw the woman alive was several weeks ago. Officials had to wade through animal corpses and debris once inside.

Police say they don’t suspect foul play. They suspect the woman died while in her bathroom probably two weeks or so ago. So far it’s impossible to tell much about the male body except that it appears to be in a state of mummification and seems to have been dead for quite some time.

The surviving animals are going to be taken to the humane society where they’re going to be fed, given water, re-hydrated, given medical care, and then very probably put up for adoption.

ST. LOUIS • Police have disclosed the identities of a man and woman whose bodies were discovered Friday in varying states of decay in a north St. Louis house.

The man, who may have been dead for several years, was identified as Louis Burrows, 86. The woman, who may have been dead for two weeks, was identified as Christine Holland, 55.

St. Louis police and firefighters were called to the house at 814 Grape Avenue after a Humane Society of Missouri investigator responded to a call about a dead dog in the back yard.

Burrows' mummified remains were found in a back room, propped up in a wheelchair. Holland was found in a bathroom.

Also found were numerous dead dogs and cats, as well as eight live animals - six cats and two dogs, which are being treated by the Humane Society.

According to city records, the house is owned by Burrows. Neighbors said that Holland had been living with Burrows for about a decade.
