ST. LOUIS • Police have disclosed the identities of a man and woman whose bodies were discovered Friday in varying states of decay in a north St. Louis house.
The man, who may have been dead for several years, was identified as Louis Burrows, 86. The woman, who may have been dead for two weeks, was identified as Christine Holland, 55.
St. Louis police and firefighters were called to the house at 814 Grape Avenue after a Humane Society of Missouri investigator responded to a call about a dead dog in the back yard.
Burrows' mummified remains were found in a back room, propped up in a wheelchair. Holland was found in a bathroom.
Also found were numerous dead dogs and cats, as well as eight live animals - six cats and two dogs, which are being treated by the Humane Society.
According to city records, the house is owned by Burrows. Neighbors said that Holland had been living with Burrows for about a decade.
