Two 71-Year-Old Golfers Strike Teen Prankster With Ball Finders

Two 71-year-old men have been arrested and charged with child abuse after they were accused of striking a teenager with metal golf ball retrievers.

Ronald E. Richardson and Donald E. Nieto were arrested after a video of them striking the 15-year-old was shown to law enforcement by the father of the teenager, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports.

The incident, which took place early Saturday afternoon at Shalimar Pointe Country Club, began after a group of four teenagers blew an air horn at golfers teeing off at the ninth hole, the report stated.

According to Richardson, he and Nieto went to approach the teenagers, but they ran off.

The 15-year-old eventually returned because he had left his jacket behind. When he did, the two men “responded by striking (the teenager) with the golf ball finder to keep him from being able to pick up his jacket,” the report stated.

Richardson said hehit the teen three or four times on “his back side area … and maybe on his arm.”

He added that the teenager did not threaten him or make him feel in danger.

Nieto initially denied hitting the teenager with the golf ball retriever until he was shown the video shot by another one of the teenagers at the scene, his arrest report stated.

The teenager was not seriously injured in the incident, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson.

Meh it was a game of golf who gives a shit. I buy my boys air horns and silly string on the regular. Some old puss hit either one with a medal pole they would get a super wedgie and a slap on the back of the head. I know they PROBABLY didn't hit the kid very hard but still, who are they to whap someone. I guess if the teen were dressed as a zombie towelhead he would been deserving huh?

Pranksters videoed themselves. The kid continues to taunt the men as they whack at him.

I would laugh at my kid if he came to me whining about getting smacked by old coots in this type of situation. And I would ground him... certainly wouldn't take him to the police station except to locate the old guys and apologize.

Patrick, Cody, and Franklin messing with golfers with airhorns at shalimar point....it got outta hand. We were not on golf course property so we didnt think anything bad could happen to us, i guess that wasn't true.....yeah it was a stupid prank and we should've thought more about it before we did it, but beating cody with golfball retrievers hard enough to break them wasnt right.

The last thing cody's dad wanted to do was call the cops, but once he saw the video and the welts all over cody he was left with no choice. Everyone thinks we're bad kids for pulling a prank?! Its what kids do, theres no one that can say they never pulled a prank before, and if they havent then idk what they did as a kid. In situations like this, I don't think teens have gotten any more savage than they've ever been. "Stupidity" seems to be common for teens no matter what the era.

What HAS changed seems to be how parents deal with it. Unless maybe I'd been knocked dead, I doubt my parents would have involved the cops if I had to deal with the repercussions of my own lack of foresight. They would have added more repercussions, not let me escape from them.
