PHOENIX -- An 18-year-old Phoenix woman is behind bars in the death of her 2-year-old son while police are on the hunt for her boyfriend.

According to police, Wendy Rogel-Pagas dialed 911 Friday night because her son was not breathing. When fire crews arrived at the home near 39th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said 2-year-old Jorge I. Zamora-Rogel had evidence of trauma to his head and body.

"This is just an absolutely horrific crime," said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump. "This is beating a 2-year-old to death."

Police are searching for Juan Garcia, 18, in connection with the child's murder.

Crump said Garcia "picked him up by his throat, literally, and began smashing his head against a bedroom wall."

Police said Garcia left the home then came back and continued beating the boy.

The boy's mother has been arrested on child abuse charges. Crump said she watched the beating occur but did not seek help or medical attention until it was too late.

Garcia is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds. He is possibly driving a 2005 gray Nissan Altima with Arizona plate ANJ3755.

I need to study psychology or sociology or something. WHAT is it that makes one young mother defend her child & another let them die? What is the deciding factor?
I remember I was 23 & I FLIPPED OUT because my ex didn't have a/c in his car for our 1 yr old when it was 115 out. Which I may have overdone honestly. I can remember being livid over the heat.
I get history of abuse & yada yada....but some people are strong enough to break the cycle. Why?

Records: Phoenix man beat child to death because tot wouldn't eat

A man is suspected of beating to death a 2-year-old child in Phoenix after he became angry that the child wouldn't eat the food the man brought home for dinner, according to court documents released Monday.

Police were searching for Juan Garcia, 18, who was living with Wendy Rogel-Pagasa, 18, and her 2-year-old son Jorge Zamora-Rogel at a home in the 2500 block of North 38th Lane in Phoenix. Police arrested Rogel-Pagasa on suspicion of waiting about three hours before calling 911 to help her dying child, according to court documents.

On Friday, Garcia came home about 7:30 p.m. with dinner, according to court documents. Rogel-Pagasa told Garcia that the child would not eat the food.

Garcia got angry and went to the child, grabbed him by the ear and pulled him out of his bedroom, according to court documents.

The child began to cry. Police suspect this made Garcia more angry, causing him to yell at the child and pick him up by the throat, according to court documents.

Garcia was suspected of hitting the child's head several times against the wall and the ground knocking Jorge unconscious, according to court documents.

Rogel-Pagasa tried to stop Garcia, who was suspected of beating and choking her, according to court documents.

Garcia left the residence for an hour and a half. Rogel-Pagasa didn't call the authorities for help while the child was bleeding and struggling to breath, according to court documents.

When Garcia returned, he tried to revive the child, according to court documents. About 10:45 p.m., Rogel-Pagasa called 911. Units responded within minutes. Jorge was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. at the scene.

Court documents didn't reveal why Rogel-Pagasa waited about three hours before calling for help.

The only thing that should have stopped her was if all ten fingers and toes were broken. And even then she could have used her tongue or her nose to dial 911 or just press 0 til you get the operator and alert them that she needed help!

It's really just venting more rage upon a defenseless, supine body. Why not go hit some steak or a car or something? And her? She had hours to get out of the place, run for help, call someone. But no, she's just going to stay there and do something useless with her complete lack of medical training or common sense to save her son?

I know these people are too dumb to understand this, but....

If you hit a child for not eating, you are instilling a fear of food or eating disorders in that child. Attach anything negative to a basic human need - ESPECIALLY during development and you will destroy something within that human/child/etc.

It's obvious this guy is a deranged psychpath & she is far too scared of life to be a parent, but...wow. I am a parent, I have no training of medical or psychological persuasion and it's not too difficult to figure out that you just don't hurt to teach.

Why do these fucks think that burning, dousing, slapping, punching, etc. will revive an unconscious child? It's really just venting more rage upon a defenseless, supine body.

There are no logical thoughts when this occurs - just blind anger/desperation. But if you're a parent meant to protect & that's how you respond....it's probably not a good idea for you to become a parent again.
