Brian Cutteridge Accused Of Sex With His Dog,Charged With Bestiality

VANCOUVER — A B.C. man accused of having sexual relations with one of his dogs has been ordered to stand trial on a charge of bestiality.

The order was made in B.C. Provincial Court in Vancouver last week following a preliminary inquiry for 47-year-old Brian Anthony Cutteridge. A second charge of bestiality, along with charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and causing damage or injury to an animal, were stayed.

The maximum sentence for someone convicted of bestiality is 10 years in prison.

“It’s a pretty serious charge, so we are pleased so see that go forward,” said Lorie Chortyk, spokeswoman for the B.C. SPCA.

The society was tipped off to Cutteridge’s alleged activities in 2010 by a veterinarian concerned about an animal’s condition. Cutteridge was arrested in July 2010 after a search of his father’s home in Forest Grove, B.C., about 100 kilometres northwest of Kamloops.

His three dogs, Tia, Hope and Lady, were seized.

Cutteridge filed a petition in B.C. Supreme Court against the B.C. SPCA on Nov. 26, 2010, the same day charges were sworn against him, to have the dogs returned to his care but he was not successful. The dogs have since been adopted, Chortyk said.

“The dogs are safe and they are in good homes,” she said.

On his Facebook page, Cutteridge identifies himself as a Christian and a “left-wing libertarian.”

He describes his political views this way: “I strongly believe that the harm principle expounded by J.S. Mill is the only valid basis for legal prohibition, which is best summed up by the popular catchphrase, ‘No harm, no foul.’

“The only activities that can justifiably be restricted or prohibited by law are those that violate the natural or constitutional rights of others. There is NO natural or constitutional right not to be offended, nor is there any justification for interfering in the private activities of consenting adults.”

He has written a paper available online called “For the Love of Dog: On the Legal Prohibition of Zoophilia in Canada and the United States,” in which he argues that laws that condemn zoophilia, or sexual activity between humans and animals, while permitting other practices “are logically incoherent and are therefore inherently unjust.”

Chortyk said bestiality is a crime that is not often prosecuted in B.C.

“Unfortunately bestiality does occur. It’s not uncommon for it to happen. What is rare is for us to have the evidence for the Crown to accept the charge.”

If the dog is male, he could simply claim he is gay and everyone is being homophobic. Everyone would be afraid to take it any farther.

I am getting so sick of hearing about these bestiality cases. These poor animals. The pain & confusion that they have to endure for these sick individuals' pleasure. It makes me literally ill. Thank God the vet stepped in and saved the dog's life. I hope he or she is able to make a complete recovery. :-(

He can be a homophobe all he wants. To make the comparison between bestiality and homosexuality is ridiculous. That is like comparing homosexuality to pedophilia. That is where I was coming from. Although, my opinion is that there are far more important things to worry about than what two consenting adults chose to do behind closed doors.

I had to look it up. The definition is fear or contempt of some one who is homosexual. Well we all know fear ain't one of my worries. I can smell fear when I swagger into a room of panzies.
So I look up contempt. it says that contempt is a lack of respect or dignity for lower forms or substandard forms of being.Also of things beneath you.

I am a dog trainer and have been studying animal behavior since college. I cannot stomach watching somebody assaulting a dog, but I would be willing to bet my life that the animal is in pain & Not enjoying it. I would imagine that it is frightening and stressful as well. I can only imagine the damage that this would do to an animal, both physically and mentally.
P.S. I do understand sarcasm, but this subject leaves me without a sense of humor.

The next time i tell a dude to blow me, I will get a translator first. or have I got it all wrong and you are assuming dogs are dumb animals with no understanding of what is going on? My friends have a dog that tries to mount every damn person that walks into their house. I've watched him knock people over and try to mount them...you're telling me that if no one stopped him, and he was allowed to successfully mount someone that he would be in pain and wouldn't be enjoying it?

EDIT: I'm not condoning or encouraging bestiality, I'm just arguing against the point that as humans, we have any idea of what an animal is thinking. Animals have a way of exhibiting fear and pain, if a dog is whimpering and trying to get away, obviously it's in pain.

A dog has to rip the guys dick off otherwise consent is implied?

I insinuate a capacity for reason as well as the ability to look after one's self without the need of external guidance. When a lab starts renting an apartment, paying bills, unplugging its own anal glands and feeding itself, then sure, it can give consent.
