Jobe Lee Jones, 20, Accused of Child Neglect When His 6mo old Found Dead

A man was arrested on child neglect complaints Wednesday after authorities found his 6-month-old son dead in a house they described as "in complete disarray."
Police believe Jobe Lee Jones, 20, had been smoking marijuana when he fell asleep on a couch with his son and infant daughter Tuesday night. Jones reported that he woke up about noon Wednesday and discovered the boy was not breathing, Sand Spring Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter said.

According to a police report, Jones and the children were sleeping in a room littered with empty beer cans, food wrappers, dirty dishes and clothing, ashtrays and marijuana paraphernalia. Officers found six marijuana smoking devices in the house and loose marijuana on a cutting board, the report says. They also found rodent feces on the kitchen counters, and the refrigerator had only beer and a bottle of juice, the report adds.
Jones was booked into the Tulsa Jail on two complaints of child neglect and two marijuana-related complaints. His bail was set at $100,500.
Jones' daughter, who is about 1, was taken into DHS custody, police said.

Thats all I found right now...I have a feeling this is going to get worse.

Officers met Jones in the yard of the home with a friend. Officers went into the house and found the six-month old boy lying on the floor in the front room. Officers say the child’s shirt was open and there were signs of rigor mortis on his neck, chest and torso.Jones told police he and his 15-month old daughter were sleeping side by side on the couch in the front room and the six-month old was sleeping at the other end of the couch between Jones’ legs. Jones said he covered all of them up with a comforter. Police said the house was only heated with space heaters.
Police took the witness to the police station to be interviewed. The police report shows that witness first told officers he and Jones were smoking marijuana in the 15-month old’s bedroom while she slept and the six month old slept in the front room, but he then told officers they were smoking marijuana in the kitchen while the 15-month old slept in her room and the six-month old slept in the front room

Did you see how dirty things were in those pictures? Ugh. Living in poverty is no excuse for being dirty. Clean that shit up. That poor baby. Goodness knows the kind of neglect they experienced at the hands of their parents.

I saw the picture of his baby girl asleep in a baby walker surrounded by a year's worth of dirty laundry. Poverty does not equal dirty. But being stoned off your ass where you can't recall who slept where, will do that to you!

The girl's name didn't get me so much as the blatant anagram of the boys name did.

As I'm 99.9999 percent sure this guy has no idea who the D'Aeth Baronets are or who Richard D'Aeth is.

    Little more new information.

Jobe Lee Jones, 20, faces two felony complaints of child neglect stemming from his arrest Tuesday, which occurred shortly after noon. He also faces complaints of marijuana and paraphernalia possession after police found several smoking devices and marijuana on a cutting board in the home.
Friends of Jones have come to his defense on Facebook, describing him as a caring father who was in a bad situation, and several suggested Tuesday's events were simply a tragic accident.
    Are we surprised?

"He stated that he had to take parenting classes before (the 15-month-old) was born and that they were taught how to care for a newborn and infants, and that he knew it wasn't the best for a child as young as Daethe to be sleeping at the end of a couch, but he felt like he had no choice, that he had nowhere else to go, and that having Daethe between his legs was the safest place for him," according to his arrest report, which details an interview with Jones taken by a detective Tuesday.

    Now the nitty gritty.

Jones reportedly put Daethe to sleep at about 9:30 p.m. on a pallet in the front room and later moved him to a couch in the back bedroom after he fell asleep. Jones told police his daughter was also in that bedroom at that time, though she was still awake. Jones and the homeowner then smoked marijuana and Jones began playing video games in the bedroom with his daughter on his lap until about midnight, when the they joined Daethe on the couch, according to the report. Jones and the homeowner both told police Daethe woke up crying at approximately 3:30 a.m., and Jones fed him and put him back at the end of the couch. He then covered him completely with a comforter, according to a police report. Jones reportedly woke up at 11:30 a.m. and found that Daethe was purple and not breathing. The homeowner called 911 and Jones began CPR on the child, though the police report indicates that detectives found the child with signs of rigor mortis.
The M.E. report is still not released to the public.

A man who was arrested after his infant son was found dead at a Sand Springs house pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of child neglect.

One neglect count against Jobe Lee Jones involved the 6-month-old baby who died, but the charge did not allege that any conduct by Jones, 20, caused the infant's death.

A medical examiner ruled that the death of Daethe Anthony Ray Jones was "sudden unexplained infant death," Tulsa County District Judge Kurt Glassco said.

The medical examiner found no evidence of foul play and listed the manner of death as unknown, according to Glassco.
    [...]

On Wednesday, Jones waived his right to a trial and pleaded guilty to both felony neglect counts. He also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Glassco withheld any finding of guilt. He ordered Jones released from the Tulsa Jail on his personal recognizance to await a June 28 sentencing.
    [...]

Police reported that the house was in "complete disarray," littered with empty beer cans, food wrappers, dirty dishes, ashtrays and marijuana smoking devices.

There were signs of rodent feces and "no food to speak of in the refrigerator," police reported.

Dude had to be smoking something when he wrote this on his Facebook:

What you "do" IS what shows the world who you are. A hypocrite is one who says "Don't neglect the kids" while neglecting the kids. A person not neglecting kids is showing the world who they are and showing the kids they are loved. Someday he may be able to say "Don't neglect the kids" and hold his head up. Just not at the moment. He's shown the world who he is. Now let's see who he becomes...

Jones reportedly put Daethe to sleep
Dear Journalists, PLEASE STOP USING THIS PHRASE!

That being said, at least he chose to plead guilty to neglect. Maybe there's a chance that he'll come out of jail a better, more responsible person.

Well judging from his facebook since he has been out he has stayed sober, cut his hair and one picture even looks like he may have been cleaning a bathroom. He's only out until sentencing. I think this guy made a huge mistake. I don't think he intentionally killed his son. I think he was staying at the friends house because he had nowhere else to be. Both he and his wife were jobless (or so it appeared from facebook) and they had seperated. She was staying with her parents (I think she still is) It seemed like an on again/off again type thing where he was the one always begging her back. He comes across in his old post as very mushy and sappy. I think he geniunely loved his family including his children. I think he pleaded guilty because he knows he did wrong and he knows that his son's death was his fault. I have a feeling that for him is something he will have to live with long after he gets out of prison.

A man whose infant son was found dead at a Sand Springs house received a seven-year deferred sentence Thursday on child-neglect counts not linked to the death.
    [...]

Jones was charged with neglecting the two children by failing to provide a safe and sanitary environment or supervision and by exposing them to the use or possession of illegal drugs.

The deferred sentence means Jones can have the neglect case dismissed with no felony conviction if he completes a seven-year probation.

I think this dude is a damn fool but I don't think he did this with the intention of killing his kid. It's like Wayne's World had kids.
