Post Police: Sitter Poured Mixture Of Salt And Detergent Down “Evil” Infant’s Throat

Federal Way, WA — A 33-year-old certified nursing assistant is facing charges of*second-degree assault of a child after police say they found an infant in her care covered in a white powder, burnt, bleeding and gasping for air in her home on January 10. According to authorities, Mabinty Williams was babysitting the 4-week-old infant as a favor to a family friend, and in the four hours that she had possession of the child, had called her husband to complain about the kid no less than 16 times. Williams reportedly sounded a little more desperate and “off” with each call, prompting the man to return home. When the husband arrived at the apartment, he said Williams insisted that he take the child back to it’s parents. Like, now. The man told police he told his wife he had to return his company vehicle, but would return shortly and take the baby. By the time he got back, though, the police were on scene. Seems the couple’s neighbors called police right*after Williams appeared at their door claiming there was someone in her house. “It’s a baby,” she said. “And it’s evil.” The charging documents state that when police arrived at Williams’ apartment, they found the baby girl on the couch, gasping for air and covered in white powder.*When officers brushed the powder away from her face, they saw that her eyes were red and swollen, there were apparent chemical burns on her mouth and a small amount of blood was present. Near the couch, a*nearly empty 32-ounce jar of Totally Awesome Power Oxygen Base Cleaner.*The detergent contained blue flecks similar to the blue flecks in the powder on the child’s face, police say. Also found nearby, an*empty container of Morton’s salt. Police said a combination of salt and detergent had been*put on the baby’s face and pushed into her mouth. “She was having problems getting this child to be calm or go to sleep,” said Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock. “How or why she used soap and salt is really a mystery to us.” When taken into custody, police say Williams “nonsensically” claimed to have seen a strange man*standing near the baby, but failed to explain where he came from, where he disappeared to or what, exactly, he did to the child. Police say Williams also claimed*she’d gone to get help from the neighbors when the baby’s eyes “went blue.”*When askedKeep Reading...

    Baby Laundry Don'ts

Federal Way police found a 4-week-old baby with what appeared to be a laundry chemical all over its face when they responded to a 911 call earlier this month.

Mabinty Williams, who has been charged with assault of a child in the second degree, had been asked to baby sit for one of her husband’s co-workers on Jan. 10, according to charging papers filed in King County Superior Court.

Williams’ neighbors called 911 after she appeared at their door saying “There’s someone in my house. … It’s a baby, and it’s evil,” court papers recount.

When they entered the apartment, officers found the baby on the couch with white powder apparently dumped on its face. The baby was gasping for air, court papers say.

There was a near-empty 32-ounce container of Totally Awesome Oxygen Based Cleaner on a TV tray near the couch. The detergent contained blue flecks like the blue flecks in the powder on the baby’s face, charging papers say.

When officers brushed the powder off the baby’s face, they saw that its eyes were “red and swollen, and there were apparent burns on the baby’s mouth and a small amount of blood present,” the charging papers says.

Dr. Naomi Sugar of Children's Hospital told detectives the infant suffered apparent chemical burns to its mouth and eyes.
Detectives later interviewed Williams’ husband, Christopher Peters, who told them Williams had agreed to baby-sit the baby, the child of one of his co-workers. The baby was dropped off just after 8 a.m., according to charging papers. Williams called her husband 16 times complaining of problems with the baby, wanting to know how to remove it from its car seat, how to remove its diaper, and so forth.
Peters returned home in a company vehicle because of all the phone calls, at which time his wife told him, “You have to take the baby back,” he told police, according to charging papers. Peters said he had to return the work vehicle, then he would come back and take the baby.

Before he came back, Williams appeared at the neighbors’ door, and police were summoned.

Williams was also interviewed by police. She said she’d gone to get help from the neighbors when the baby’s eyes “went blue,” charging papers say. Asked how the baby got powder all over her face, she told police: “I didn’t do anything.”
