On Tuesday 24th January 2012, the US Senate will vote on the Stop Online Piracy Act*(SOPA) and the*Protect IP Act (PIPA). *It was recently announced that Obama has come out against SOPA and that the bill is, in all likelihood, dead. That may or may not be the case, but the same cannot be said about PIPA. I’m all for companies trying to combat piracy and protecting their property, but these proposed laws are not the answer. They are too vague, too broad and too ripe for abuse. There are many companies against SOPA and PIPA, such as Google, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and tomorrow we will join them by bringing our site down for 12 hours (8:00 am est – 8:00 pm est). We may not be the heavy-hitters those guys are, or as influential, but laws like this could affect us, and in turn, affect you. Our forums will be open during this time, and at 8:30 est, we will be conducting our 14th episode of The Pulpit of Doom so feel free to stop by and listen or participate in our discussions of the site’s top stories as well as discussing two films; MEGAN IS MISSING and TRUST. Both films deal with child predators online, one just happens to be an exploitative bowl of fear-mongering dog shit while the other is quite good and takes an honest look at how these predators can manipulate children in loving families while also showing the*damage*they do to their victims and the victim’s family. So be sure to come in and say howdy.
