Boyfriend tries to kill woman with hammer; dog saves her

    http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2012/01/h...helter-policy/

Like most battered women’s shelters, the Rose Brooks Center did not accommodate pets. But this was no ordinary dog: when her boyfriend tried to kill the woman with a hammer, her fearless Great Dane jumped in the way, laying over her body and taking most of the blows until the man threw both of them out of a second story window. The dog suffered multiple broken bones in the attack, sparing his owner’s life in the process.

Despite their injuries, the woman was able to escape with her dog, and eventually made her way to the Rose Brooks Center. When they offered her a bed and told her no pets were allowed, she was defiant, and for the first time in its history, the shelter overlooked regulations and allowed the dog to stay.

That decision would eventually lead to a permanent change in policy. Knowing that forty percent of battered women with pets stay in abusive relationships in order to protect their pets, the center’s chief executive officer, Susan Miller, said adding a pet-friendly wing would remove a serious barrier that women face when attempting to leave an abusive relationship.
I can't seem to get the picture of the hero dog to upload to Photobucket, but there are pictures at the link.

Dear Mommy...I see you smile down there below...are those tears of joy you show? I'm glad you're happy, although you lied...I'd love to be right by your side...but by your choice, I view from above...tell my Grandparents I send my love...it's Beautiful here, is all I can say...your life will go on... without me in your way. Good for both of them. They caused a really awesome policy change with the shelter.

    awesome!
As much as i fear large dogs, I really like great danes. I guess it was the real positive experience I had as a kid. the one I remember fondly looked much like this. A majestic, beautiful dog.

Glad they both survived the brutal ordeal. Too bad the dog didn't get a chance to leave a memorable mark on the fucker.

What an awesome dog, I love great danes. That woman and her dog are very lucky to have each other, and what an amazing change in the battered women's shelter's policy. Any word on the 'man' who beat them and threw them both out the 2nd floor window?
@Silvahalo, that great dane picture is beautiful!
