http://www.wkrn.com/global/Story.asp?s=12941432NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A decommissioned Metro police officer is jailed on charges of sex crimes while on the job.
Metro police told News 2 Jeffrey Poole, 39, surrendered himself to authorities Friday afternoon.
He was booked on a 12-count grand jury indictment charging him with sex crimes involving four women, three of which have histories of prostitution.
Poole faces four counts of rape, four counts of official misconduct, two counts of sexual battery, one count of patronizing prostitution, and one count of attempting to patronize prostitution.
An investigation into Poole began in April when a 27-year-old woman reported that he, while on duty, stopped her on the street and fondled her while patting her down.
The woman, who is known to be a prostitute, said he appeared to make verbal advances toward her, but she rejected them.
Detectives also interviewed three other women who alleged that Poole had sexual contact with them in 2009 while on duty.
A 20-year-old woman told police that Poole arrested her on an outstanding warrant, drove her to a secluded area and began to fondle her, pretending it was a search.
A 30-year-old woman reported that Pool approached her for sex while she was walking in Dickerson Pike. She said Poole drove her, in his patrol car, to an abandoned lot and paid for consensual acts.
A 35-year-old woman told police that Poole came to her Dickerson Pike motel room and raped her while on duty and in uniform.
Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson said Poole's actions are a "betrayal of the trust conveyed to Poole by this police department and the citizens we serve."
