14yo Charged With Murder Of 1yo; Mom April Solles Charged With Rape of 14yo

There's a new twist in the case of a one-year old Rapid City girl's death.

KELOLAND News first told you last week about a 14-year-old boy's arrest for the baby's murder.

Now that baby's mother has been arrested and charged with statutory rape.

Baby Lillie Solles' funeral was on December 31st. But new court papers reveal her mother, 28-year old April Solles, was arrested the day before on three charges of raping a teenage boy. And her attorney says the two cases are connected.

One-year-old Lillie Solles received serious head injuries on December 14th, according to the Pennington County Sheriff's Department. One week later, the girl died.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with second degree murder in the death. Now, the girl's mother, April Solles, is also behind bars and her attorney says the two have a relationship.

"We've seen and heard nothing as far as actually evidence. Right now, we have the mere allegations of a 14-year-old, troubled child. I mean, he is charged at this point, with the murder of my client's child," Solles' attorney Paul Winter said.

A Rapid City teenager is accused of murder after an infant girl died in a Sioux Falls hospital Tuesday.

The 1-year-old Rapid City child died from "acute blunt-force head injury, attributable to non-accidental shaking," according to Lara Roetzel, Pennington County's chief deputy state's attorney.

Roetzel said the teenager was not related to the child. He was not alone with her when the injury occurred, she said.

Solles was initially charged with three counts of fourth-degree rape, but a Pennington County grand jury indicted her last week and added two counts of sexual contact and three counts of statutory rape.

The charges say two encounters that led to fourth-degree rape charges happened in June and July and the third was on either Dec. 13 or 14. Solles' daughter was injured on Dec. 14 and died four days later at a Sioux Falls hospital, officials said.

South Dakota law defines fourth-degree rape as an act of sexual penetration involving someone between the ages of 13 and 15. It's a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine, as is the sexual contact charge.

Solles faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Her Facebook is full of "Oh I miss my baby." Fuck you, something is very fishy about this story. Is it just me or does the whites of her eyes seem red? How did he kill the baby when she was there? She seems to be begging for attention/sympathy on her Facebook. If my baby was murdered I don't think I could fight my way through the grief/rage enough to hang out on the internet.

It doesn't say the mother was there when the baby was killed, just that the teenager wasn't alone with the baby. Also, it's pretty easy to kill a baby even when other people are around. There aren't really enough details to get a clear picture of what happened but he may have been holding the baby, got mad, and threw her before anyone could have stopped him, or he could have been in another room with the baby and no one knew what he was doing.

Also, her eyes do look red but I don't see why that would mean anything except she, like a lot of babies, didn't like having to sit still for a picture.

I wondered too. Not much info has been released on the situation. I can't imagine many situations where a non-relative 14 year old boy would be in the house except under the guise of "babysitter".

Maybe they will move charges to adult court and we will find out more.

She was sleeping with the 14 year old that killed her baby. That is all kinds of fishy. I seriously doubt he quietly went to another room and killed the baby and whoever else was in the house didn't hear or see a thing. A lot of fault lies with the mother, she was making a terrible choice in sleeping with little more than a child herself and for whatever reason he killed her baby. I have no sympathy for her.

On her FB page (12/16/11) she says Lillie was hospitalized for meningitis. She also says she took her to the doctor on the 15th, but at that point doesn't mention anything is wrong - she makes it sound like it was just a regular well check-up.

I hope inside she feels like dying, how could she not, knowing that some shady shit she was doing, very well may have lead up to the death of her daughter. Fucking whore. I pray she never gets to see her little boy again, she doesn't deserve him.

The Rapid City woman accused of having an illicit relationship with a 14-year-old boy allegedly tattooed and groomed other boys, according to the Pennington County State's Attorney's office.

April Solles, 28, pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual contact with a child under 16 and three counts of fourth-degree rape involving the same victim at her arraignment Monday morning.

Morrison said the state has learned more about the "extremes" Solles went to groom other youths, including tattooing them. The tattooing of minors without their parents' consent is a Class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

According to Morrison, the new allegations indicate that other children would be at risk if Solles is free on bond.

The Department of Social Services has custody of Solles' child, according to Winter.

Winter told Davis that his client is in discussions with DSS about the return of her child. She would live at home if her bond is reduced.

Davis, however, refused to reduce Solles bond, promising to reconsider her request once he is more familiar with the case.

Davis recently assumed oversight of the case after Circuit Judge Mary Thorstenson was recused from the case by the state's attorney's office.

How can a mother lose herself so completely? just beautiful children, lives taken, lives changed forever. My heart aches for little brother Anthony. He too lost so much.

She was posting on her fb all the while her baby girl was fighting for her life. She had people believe her baby was sick w/ meningitis to gain sympathy she did not deserve, hide her dirty secret as she knew everyone would have shunned her, loathed her. She lied because she's a useless, pathetic, sick, disgusting pedophile.

Lillie and Anthony were second to her sick and twisted ways. HER needs came before her own children, her needs selfishly took from other children. Hating this POS is not a strong enough word. Lillie didn't have a chance with a mother like this. My heart weeps for baby girls loss and all that should have been hers.

What the 14 year old did was terrible, make no mistake, but you have to wonder how much of his bad behavior stems from the fact that he was being sexually abused by this woman. Striking out against her baby would be his perfect way of hurting her and taking some control from her that he had lost. She is just as guilty of the baby's death as if she had tossed her down the stairs or something with her own two hands.

It may not be a very popular opinion, but I'm not sure the 14 year old needs to go to prison for life. She victimized him and acting out is very common for sexually abused children. He should be punished and he should be treated and kept out of society until he is not a threat to other people. If that takes 30 years, then so be it. It just really pisses me off that she would damage someone else to the point that her daughter died and another child that she destroyed lost his life in a figurative way.

April Solles needs to just be shot in the gut with a shot gun full of bird shot for putting her underaged dick over the health and well being of her daughter. The boy is 14 FFS there must be serious disconnect in the heads of anyone who think it is ok to fuck a boy not even that well off into his teens! Hell he's still a baby to somebody and this bitch just had to go and corrupt that by stealing his innocence and fucking up his head.
