Missing 36yo Atlanta Woman Stacey English's Car Found *found deceased*

    Stacey English
    Jan 4 2012
    ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police have found the car belonging to a missing 36-year-old Atlanta woman.
Stacey Nicole English was last seen at 3071 Lenox Road on or about Christmas Day.
Her car was picked up by police on Dec. 27, but it did not come up in the computer system until several days later.
    [,,,]
English's friend from St. Louis is a person of interest, according to Atlanta police.
English's stepfather Rev. Kevin Jamison said she was of impeccable character and he wouldn't wish anyone to go through what the family is going through now.
"She was a normal and happy woman in the city. Getting ready to enjoy the holidays and festivities," said friend Monica Croom.

Police believe English may be driving a white 2006 Volvo S60 with Georgia tag BPR4324.
Police said there's no indication of foul play.
Atlanta police ask anyone with information on English to call 911 or the department's Adult Missing Persons Squad.
"She's extremely close with her mother and father. We knew something was wrong when we didn't hear from her. We're also concerned because she has a medical condition and takes medication," said Croom

36-year-old Atlanta woman Stacey Nicole English missing since Christmas
    Jan 4 2012
CBS) ATLANTA - Police say they have found the car of a 36-year- old Atlanta woman who went missing during the holidays.
According to her family, Stacey Nicole English was last seen in her home on Lenox Road on or about Christmas Day, reports CBS Atlanta.
"She was a normal and happy woman in the city. Getting ready to enjoy the holidays and festivities," said friend Monica Croom.
Police, who previously said they believed the 36-year-old woman was driving a white 2006 Volvo S60 with Georgia tag BPR4324, announced Thursday morning that the vehicle was found abandoned on Dec. 27 in southwest Atlanta, reports local station WSB-TV.
English's family reportedly sas the woman left her cell phone and keys behind, and her fireplace was in use (on).
"She's extremely close with her mother and father. We knew something was wrong when we didn't hear from her. We're also concerned because she has a medical condition and takes medication," said Croom, reports WGCL.
Police say there is no indication of foul play.
According to WSB-TV, English's family says the last one to see her was a male friend who was visiting from St. Louis. They say the friend admitted he'd argued with English.

Jan 5 2012Stacey English Missing: Search Intensifies After Authorities Locate Georgia Woman's Car
Concern over Stacey Nicole English's whereabouts escalated today after Atlanta authorities announced they had recovered her abandoned vehicle.
The 36-year-old Georgia woman has been missing since celebrating the Christmas holiday with her family.
"The vehicle was found but she has not been located," English's father, Kevin Jamison, told The Huffington Post. "The vehicle was found about 15 to 20 miles from her apartment."
    [...]
English attended a Christmas gathering at her grandmother's on Dec. 25. Afterward, she returned to her home in the exclusive Vanderbilt complex on Lenox Road in Buckhead. According to Jamison, a male friend from Missouri was visiting with English. On the night of Dec. 26, the two allegedly got into an argument and she asked him to leave. Nobody has seen English since that night. Police have not named the friend a suspect or person of interest in the on-going missing persons investigation.
    [...]
According to English's father, police are examining the car for clues.
Right now they are combing it," Jamison said. The concerned father added, "We are brainstorming and are going to meet at 1 p.m. with top brass from the Atlanta Police Department."
Meanwhile, HuffPost was contacted late this morning by Carlos Campos, the Public Affairs Manager for the Atlanta Police Department. Campos was concerned about comments made by Atlanta Police Sgt. Curtis Davenport exclusively to The Huffington Post.
On Wednesday, Davenport told HuffPost the police department was not actively conducting any searches for English. When asked what, if anything, authorities had done to locate English, Davenport said, "We have disseminated flyers to all the local media."
Campos, however, said authorities have been doing much more to locate English and said he is looking into why there was an apparent internal disconnect.
"What I want to make clear to you is that we are taking Ms. English's case very seriously and we are looking for her," Campos said. "We are very much looking for her. We are working to find her whereabouts. In fact, there is an investigator assigned to the case and we've also brought in our Complex Case Squad for assistance. That unit has some of our most seasoned homicide investigators on it."
Asked if authorities now suspect foul play, Campos said, "We're looking into all possibilities. At this point anything is possible. We have to. She has been reported missing and there certainly are some circumstances that are troubling."

Phoenix Coldon And Stacey English Disappear 500 Miles Apart: Could There Be A Connection?
Are the cases of Stacey English (left) and Phoenix Coldon connected?
Two African American women have disappeared, only nine days apart -- one in Atlanta, one in St. Louis -- and in both cases, their cars were found with the engine still running.
Also in both cases, the investigation was slowed down because the cars the women were driving had been impounded -- a fact that neither police department realized until several days into the investigations.
The family of 23-year-old Phoenix Coldon of Missouri is now trying to determine if her case could be linked to the disappearance of 36-year-old Stacey English of Georgia.
The young woman's mother, Goldia Coldon, told The Huffington Post that the eerie similarity of the two cases has not escaped the attention of police or support groups for missing persons.
"They are very similar," Coldon said. "[Saint Louis County Police] Captain Troy Doyle, who is working on my daughter's case, said he saw some similarities also."
Atlanta Police Department public affairs manager Carlos Campos also said that investigators are "aware" of the Coldon case and "are planning to reach out to authorities in the St. Louis area as part of our investigation" into English's disappearance.

The nonprofit organization Black And Missing But Not Forgotten said it is also following this issue.
"If the cases are connected, we are looking at a possible traveling serial kidnapper/killer and there could be more," said Deidra Robey, the organization's CEO and founder.
Coldon was last seen by her mother in the driveway of their St. Louis County home at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 18.

"She was sitting in her vehicle," Coldon said. "She does that often. She'll sit in the car and talk on the phone. That's what I thought she was doing. When I looked out again, her vehicle was gone."
Coldon said she initially thought her daughter had gone to the store, but she did not return that night. Coldon said the following morning she reported her daughter and her black 1998 Chevy Blazer missing to police.
According to Coldon, her daughter's disappearance is highly out of character.

"She is very responsible, very sweet, very athletic and very intelligent," she said. "Phoenix is a regional fencing champion. She plays the piano and plays in the handbell choir at church. Phoenix is loved. Her name stands for a beautiful, unique person of distinction -- that's Phoenix.
Stacey Nicole English was last seen on or about Christmas day. Following a Christmas gathering at her grandmother's, English went to her home in the exclusive Vanderbilt complex on Lenox Road in Buckhead.
English's father, Rev. Kevin Jamison, told HuffPost on Wednesday that Robert Kirk, a resident of St. Louis, had been visiting with her, but the two allegedly got into an argument.
"The gentleman said they got into a dispute and she put him out of her house on Dec. 26 around 10:30 p.m.," Jamison said. "That person has now gone back to Missouri."
On Dec. 27, English's disappearance was reported to police. Her vehicle, a white, four-door 2006 Volvo S60, was also reported missing. The disappearance of English, an active churchgoer with a bachelor's degree in political science, is also "very out of character," according to her father.
"She talks to her family and friends two or three times a day, and no one has had any contact with her," Jamison said earlier this week.
On Jan. 1, Coldon's family found out her missing Chevy Blazer had been impounded at about 6:23 p.m. on the day she went missing. The vehicle was discovered about a 25-minute drive from her home, at 9th and St. Clair in East St. Louis. The keys were in the ignition with the vehicle running, and the driver's door open.
The car had been towed and entered into the police computer as an abandoned vehicle.
"We were never officially notified the car was towed," said Goldia Coldon. "We found out through friends of the family. The car is in my name. All they had to do was run the license plate."
It remains unclear why the vehicle's discovery was not announced sooner. The East St. Louis Police Department, the agency assisting in the case, did not immediately return a call for comment from HuffPost. St. Louis County Police declined to discuss the case.

"We're not talking about an active investigation," St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard said.
According to Coldon, her family had to complain to the mayor's office to get the impound bill -- in excess of $1,000 -- waived.

In another apparent similarity between the two cases, English's vehicle was also impounded around the time she is believed to have gone missing -- and it appears police failed to realize this.
Ten days after the search for English began, on Jan. 5, Atlanta police admitted that the woman's vehicle had been in possession of city authorities all along. It was impounded on Dec. 27, the day she was reported missing, and was recovered in southwest Atlanta.
Atlanta Police Crimes Commander Maj. Keith Meadows said the engine was running when English's car was found. The vehicle had been towed from 215 Lakewood Way, which, according to English's father, is about 15 to 20 miles from her apartment.

"When my Missing Persons detectives ran the vehicle, it didn't show as being in impound," Meadows said at a recent press conference. "What we're trying to find out is what happened during that process."
While authorities in Atlanta dealt with the situation surrounding English's vehicle, police in St. Louis on Jan. 5 were conducting searches around the area where Coldon's vehicle had been found weeks earlier. Members of the St. Louis County police department searched the area with the assistance of cadaver dogs.

"They did one search with the cadaver dogs in that area," Goldia Coldon said. "My daughter is not lying in weeds in the cold. She's not. I know that. I know in my heart."
On Jan. 6, authorities in Atlanta intensified the search for English. Mounted police and K9s conducted searches around the area where her vehicle was found.
English's mother, Cindy Jamison, questioned why the search had not been conducted sooner. "I'm not sure why they had waited until yesterday. I'm really not sure," she told The Huffington Post Saturday.
    [...]
Speaking with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Keith Jamison said the family has not felt "completely in the loop" in regard to the police investigation.
The Atlanta Police department, according to Campos, wants to "speak further with Mr. Kirk."

Earlier this week, WSB-TV and several other media outlets reported that Atlanta police had named Kirk a person of interest in the English case. But in an email to The Huffington Post, Campos denied the veracity of those reports, saying that Kirk had not yet been named as a person of interest.
"Maj. Meadows did not name him and declined to do so when asked at the briefing," Campos said. "We did not [release the name]. Just wanted to be clear on that."
Atlanta authorities released on Friday the police incident report regarding English's disappearance. The report alleges that Kirk told detectives English began "acting peculiar and out of character" the night of Dec. 26. He said she began "screaming in the apartment and shouting biblical scriptures and indicating that the world was coming to an end." Kirk said that he left around 10:30 p.m., after English "began asking him if he was Satan" and told him to leave "her residence immediately."

Divers search lake for missing Atlanta woman
    ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police said divers are searching a lake near the spot where a missing Atlanta woman's car was found.
Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said they have no reason to believe Stacey Nicole English's body will be found in Lakewood Fairgrounds Lake.
He said police have not received information that led them to the lake, but want to search it as a precaution.
English was reported missing by her family on December 27. Her Volvo was located abandoned with the engine running about a mile from the lake.
Authorities say a friend who saw the 36-year-old a few days before she went missing said she was acting out of character.
English's step-father, Kevin Jamison, said the family hired T.J. Ward, the founder of Investigative Consultants International, Inc.
Ward was the lead investigator in the Natalee Holloway case.
Crime Stoppers has established a reward for anyone who provides information that leads to the whereabouts of English.
Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell is working to increase the award to $10,000.
Mitchell said his family personally donated $500 to the effort and he is asking others to do the same.
    [...]
Jamison said the family is asking people across the nation to take a moment of silence every Monday at 12:30 p.m. until English is found.

Is body that of missing Buckhead woman?
    ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The family of a missing Buckhead woman is anxiously waiting to find out if a body discovered in a wooded area of Atlanta belongs to their loved one, Stacey English.
Stacey English was reported missing in December just after Christmas. Click here to read more.
The decomposing body was found under a fallen tree in southeast Atlanta Monday afternoon.
Some men looking for scrap metal discovered the body at about 3 p.m. near St. Johns Avenue at Harding Road. According to residents, it's an area neighbors often search for items like hub caps or other metal items that may have fallen off passing cars.
Members of English's family rushed to the scene where the body was discovered. Authorities would not let them view the body.
"If this is not her, I have to still be sad because it's someone else's child," Bernice Hurks, English's aunt, said. "If this is her, it's the best thing we could do right now is to find her, regardless of what the circumstances and conditions are."
It's unclear if the deceased woman was killed weeks or months ago by the fallen tree or if the tree fell on her body after her death.
Brandy Farmer called 911 after one of her relatives who discovered the body came to her house.
"When I saw it for myself it was devastating. I fainted because it was hard for me to see," Farmer said.
The woman's body was found about a mile from where English's car was discovered weeks ago. English, 36, of Buckhead, went missing on the day after Christmas.
"You can see a body sticking up from under the tree," said Farmer. "From the calf muscles and everything like that, I told my husband that it was a female body, and the paramedics confirmed that it was a female body."
Police spokesman Carlos Campos would not confirm whether the body was that of English, but he did say that the body was badly decomposed.
    [...]
According to Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Randy Hanzlick, the body was consistent in age with English. However, as of Tuesday morning, the autopsy had not been completed, and a positive identification had not yet been made on the body.

Family of missing woman returns to place where body was found

    ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Family and friends of Stacey English took to the streets of Southwest Atlanta on Sunday, marching to the site where the 36-year-old's body was found under a fallen tree. It's been three days since the Fulton County Medical Examiner positively identified the Buckhead resident and emotions are still raw. Loved ones shared tearful hugs as balloons were tied to the tree trunk and a cross bearing English's name and picture were placed nearby. Despite the grief many were feeling family and friends tried to stay positive.

"We are here to celebrate this afternoon right? We are going to celebrate Stacey's life today," said Amisha Hardy, English's friend.

"She had a beautiful smile. She had a lovely smile, like she welcomed you with her arms wide open. That is the kind of love she had, that is the way she was raised," said Anthony Cox, English's cousin.

"It's a great day because it is a closure day and its outstanding to see everyone standing for her, that means she will be here for a long time. [....]

Stacey English's death ruled an accident
    ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Fulton County Medical Examiner has ruled that Stacey English died of hypothermia.

English's body was found wedged under a tree in the woods on Jan. 23, not far from where her car was found running the day after Christmas.

The autopsy showed no evidence of injury, fatal disease, or drug overdose.

"The most likely cause of Stacey English's death is cold exposure (hypothermia) complicating underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders. Because cold exposure is an external, environmental condition, the manner of death has been classified as accident,"

    Wow.

I have heard this is an awful way to go - not that there is a good way! But that people actually tear their clothes off in fits of agony because they feel as if they are on fire, not freezing. It's one of the things that keeps me off Everest. One of many, many, many things.

Im only putting this here b/c Pheonix is mentioned here when they thought maybe they couldve been related (cases)

Phoenix Coldon: Cruel Hoax Costs Family Of Missing Woman Their Life Savings, Home
A promising lead about the whereabouts of Phoenix Coldon turned out to be a cruel hoax, causing the missing Missouri woman's family additional pain, their entire life savings and their home.

"Unfortunately, we will now be losing our family home," the missing woman's mother, Goldia Coldon, told The Huffington Post. "We have tried to explain the situation to our mortgage company but they don't care."

A tip that led the family to Texas came from a man who claimed to know Coldon's whereabouts and provided her family with very convincing details, Goldia Coldon said. The family already had invested much of their money to search for Phoenix, she said, but spent the remainder of their savings on private investigators to follow up on the lead. It was not until after the family's money was gone that the man who provided the tip admitted he fabricated the story, Coldon said.

"They said he made it up to get attention," she said. "It cost us dearly and it led absolutely nowhere. It was just his idea of a joke."

"The authorities said there is nothing they can do to the man. In my opinion, he impeded the investigation. He took money, time and energy that we could have been using to follow other leads because he wanted to perpetrate a joke."

Phoenix Coldon, 23, was last seen in the driveway of the family's St. Louis County home at about 3 p.m. Dec. 18. Her mother said she was sitting in her vehicle one minute and the next, she was gone.

Coldon said she initially thought her daughter had gone to the store but when she did not return that night, Coldon said she reported her daughter and her black 1998 Chevy Blazer missing to police the following morning.

According to Coldon, her daughter's disappearance is highly out of character.

"She is very responsible, very sweet, very athletic and very intelligent," she said. "Phoenix is a regional fencing champion. She plays the piano and (is) in the handbell choir at church. Phoenix is loved. Her name stands for a beautiful, unique person of distinction -- that's Phoenix."

On Jan. 1, Coldon's family found out the missing Chevy Blazer had been impounded at 6:23 p.m. the day she disappeared. It was discovered about a 25-minute drive from her home, at Ninth and St. Clair in East St. Louis. The keys were in the ignition with the vehicle running and the driver's door open.

The car had been towed and entered into the police computer as an abandoned vehicle.

"I just wish those police had done what they were supposed to do by running those plates and seeing that the vehicle was registered to me," Goldia Coldon said. "All they had to do is call and say, 'do you know where your vehicle is?' And, look where it was found. Why didn't they check around the area to make sure somebody was not injured or passed out nearby? Why did we have to learn from someone else where our vehicle was?"

Coldon said police also did not complete an inventory sheet when the vehicle was found. "According to the officer, he did not do an inventory sheet because there was nothing in the car," she said. "That was not true. When we checked the vehicle at the impound there (were) lots of things in it, including her glasses, her purse with her driver's license and her shoes."

It remains unclear why the family was not told about the vehicle sooner or why police allegedly missed the items found inside. The East St. Louis Police Department has not returned calls for comment from HuffPost.

According to Coldon, her family had to complain to the mayor's office to get the impound bill -- in excess of $1,000 -- waived. While police conducted searches in the weeks following Phoenix Coldon's disappearance, the department has remained tight-lipped about the case. According to the family, they have not heard from police since February.

Phoenix Coldon's mother said the family also has had a difficult time getting media attention for the case. The Huffington Post learned of the disappearance in January and covered it, but few other outlets have reported on it.

Coldon said she believes her daughter's case is being ignored because she is black.

"They don't say it, but I know it's because she's black. It's terrible," she said. "Phoenix is a beautiful young woman. She's smart. She's talented. She's a champion fencer. Phoenix has a lot to offer to this world and her life is just as valuable as anyone else's. It's a shame that black people never get media coverage."

The disappearance of Phoenix Colden is similar to the December 2011 disappearance of 36-year-old Stacey English in Atlanta. English was last seen alive on or about Christmas Day. On Dec. 27, English's disappearance was reported to police. Her vehicle, a 2006 Volvo S60, was also reported missing. It was later discovered English's vehicle was impounded around the time she is believed to have disappeared. When it was located, the vehicle was found abandoned 20 miles from English's home with its engine running.

On Jan. 23, English's decomposing body was found under a tree in a heavily wooded area roughly a mile from where police found her car. The Fulton County Medical Examiner has ruled the death accidental, saying it was likely caused by exposure. English's family members, however, among others find it unlikely she crawled under a tree and laid there until she died.

Goldia Coldon said there also is a similar case in St. Louis.

"A young lady (was) snatched out of a car in East St. Louis a few years ago, while at a stoplight. They left her car running in the road and took her to a house in Illinois where a group of guys drugged, beat and raped her," Coldon said. "They wanted her to work as a prostitute for them. She waited until she was left with just one of her captors. He passed out from drinking and she managed to escape. The circumstances -- the running car in the street -- are very similar."

Because of the possibility her daughter could have been forced to work in the sex trade, Goldia Coldon and other family members have visited exotic dance clubs and interviewed local prostitutes. Phoenix Colden's father, meanwhile, has taken on the task of leading searches in other areas.

"There are so many vacant lots and abandoned buildings in East St. Louis," Goldia Coldon explained. "My husband keeps going over there and searching them. I can't do it. The thought of that -- of our daughter being there -- I just can't do it. I'm not strong enough for that."
Unfortunately, the recent hoax has not been the first cruel prank the family has had to endure. There have been others, including one by a young woman who called the home and pretended to be Phoenix Coldon.

"People can be so cruel. It has cost us dearly emotionally, physically and financially," Goldia Coldon said.

Despite the fact that the Coldon family will soon be homeless, Coldon said she and her husband have no regrets and will continue to do whatever it takes to find their missing daughter.

"It is just money and it is just a house," she said. "We did what we had to do for Phoenix. She will be 24 years old on May 23. We are desperately hoping she is still alive and we can get her home to celebrate."

Anyone wishing to contribute to the search for Phoenix Coldon can make an online donation via PayPal, PhoenixMissingFund@Hotmail.com, or by sending a donation to Goldia Coldon, c/o: Missing Phoenix Coldon, P.O. Box 38645, Saint Louis, Missouri 63138.

"We need to raise awareness because we have not found Phoenix and we just need people to know that she is still out there somewhere," Coldon said. "Any help anyone could give us would be greatly appreciated."

Maybe she pulled over because she had to pee, went behind the tree to squat and the tree fell on her? Not a very likely scenario but stranger things have happened.

I with you though, there has to be to this.
