Lenard Robinson Charged With DUI, Vehicular Homicide In Crash That Killed Four

    Lenard Robinson
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on drunk-driving charges as well as four counts of vehicular homicide in the Christmas Eve traffic wreck that killed four women on Raleigh-Millington Road at the Loosahatchie River bridge.

In a statement released this morning, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said alcohol and speed were factors in the crash that also injured two men — one critically -- just south of Fite Road on the northern edge of Memphis.
Spokesman Chip Washington said a preliminary investigation showed that Lenard Robinson, 38, was driving a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck traveling south on Raleigh-Millington when his vehicle struck the rear end of a 2002 Chevy Impala.

Four women were in the Impala — sisters Tarla Fisher, 47, and Shirley Watkins, 44, their niece 26-year-old Chrystal Hill, and 42-year-old Marjorie Tucker, who was a family friend. The women, all from Memphis, were all trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene just after the accident, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m.

Washington said the impact of the collision between Robinson’s pick-up and the Impala caused Fisher, who was driving the car, to swerve into the northbound lane where a Ford F-150 struck the passenger side of the car.

James Reece and Luke McElravey were in the F-150 and were taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. Reece is in critical condition and McElravey is stable, according to Washington.

Robinson, the driver of the Silverado, was arrested Saturday night and charged with four counts of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding and two counts of felony reckless endangerment.

Washington said Fisher was the only person involved who was wearing a seatbelt.

Shelby County deputies and Memphis police blocked off the Raleigh-Millington Road in both directions Saturday night. The bridge over the Loosahatchie accident was damaged during the collision, although none of the vehicles went over the bridge.

The road was no longer closed Sunday morning. Shelby County spokesman Steve Shular said county public work crews set up concrete barricades along the bridge where the impact of the collision had severely damaged guard rails.

Of course the drunk driving POS walks away unscathed, as usual. WHY IS THAT ALWAYS THE CASE? I work with a woman, don't know her well but she passes through from time to time and I found out a month ago that her son was killed by a DD. Her youngest, who still lived with her, he was 20, I think, and he'd gone out at a late hour to GIVE A FRIEND A RIDE WHO HAD BEEN DRINKING. Smash, he's dead. I hate drunk drivers, hate hate hate. Thanks for the video above, I did laugh and I needed it.

Whisper, I didn't know that about your son... I am so sorry. Moms shouldn't have to bury children. I was nearly killed by a DD January 21st, 1986. I still remember the EMT yelling to the ambulance driver "Step on it, we're losing her!" I was 18. My abdomen is still covered with scars; they still itch and burn from time to time. I show them to my 16 year old niece now, to remind her to NEVER get in the car with a drunk, or drive drunk herself. I am like a walking show-n-tell for MADD. I hope the DD who killed your child had to pay for his crime, and I hope the dickhead in this story pays a steep price for killing all those poor people! Stupid stupid drunk!

Man charged with vehicular homicide gave police false name
Investigators have discovered that the man arrested on four counts of vehicular homicide and drunk driving after a Christmas Eve wreck on Raleigh-Millington Road gave police a false name.
The man provided a driver's license at the scene that identified him as 38-year-old Lenard Robinson Jr., but police determined through the automated fingerprint identification system that his true name is Davis Brooks of Jackson, Tenn.
A statement from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office says the real Robinson was contacted and told police he had lost his license some time ago and had already obtained a replacement.
Brooks, 32, now faces a charge of identity theft along with the original charges of four counts o vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, resisting official detention and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Officials say Brooks is also wanted in Tipton, Madison and Dickson Counties.
According to Lt. David DeMoss of the Jackson Police Department in Madison County, Brooks has four outstanding warrants in Madison: for theft, contempt of court, failure to comply and failure to appear in court.
DeMoss said Brooks also has an extensive record that includes a citation for leaving the scene of an accident in 1999 and charges of forgery, theft and violation of probation.
    [....]
An assistant to the Dickson Police Department said Brooks has an active warrant out in Dickson County for failure to appear out of general sessions court with a bond amount of $15,000.
The charge in Tipton County was unavailable Monday night.
Brooks was being held at the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Fisher was driving the Impala, which swerved into oncoming traffic after the initial impact and was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup. Two men -- James Reece and Luke McElravey -- were in the F-150.
They were both injured and taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. Reece was in critical condition initially but had improved to fair condition as of Monday. McElravey was in good condition.
