Weleetka, OK–**Three years ago, we posted an article about 13-year-old Taylor Dawn Paschal-Placker and her best friend, 11-year-old Skyla Jade Whitaker.*The two girls were walking down a dirt road in Weleetka, Oklahoma*when they were gunned down in cold blood. Yesterday police announced they had finally apprehended they feel is person responsible, 25-year-old Kevin Sweat. We’ve had a couple stories on the site that have always stuck out for me, and this was definitely one of them. For those of you who are not aware of this story,*Skyla had spent the night at Taylor’s house and on the afternoon of*June 8, 2008, the pair headed to Bad Creek Bridge, where they planned to collect shells and pebbles from the riverbank.*When they did not return home , and Taylor would not answer her cell phone, Taylor’s grandfather went looking for them. He didn’t have to look for long. Lying side-by-side*in a ditch a quarter mile from the Taylor’s home were the bodies of the two girls. I could simply say they had been shot to death, but that doesn’t quite relay what someone had done to them. Two different handguns had been used to riddle the girls with bullets. Skyla had been shot eight times in the neck, shoulders, arms, chest and abdomen. Taylor had been shot a total of five times in the face, groin and hand. An autopsy would reveal that neither had been sexually assaulted. When we first reported on this everyone thought a suspect(s) would be quickly identified, as this had happened in broad daylight, casings from the two guns used were retrieved from the scene, a vehicle was spotted and a composite sketch was handed out. But after three years of no one being identified as a suspect, some believed that this case had gone cold and someone had gotten away with murder. That all changed in July of this year when the ashes of Kevin Sweat’s fiancee, 23-year-old Ashley Taylor, were discovered on his father’s property. *She had been reported missing by her family who had last heard from her right before she and Sweat were to head to Louisiana to be married. After multiple interviews, Sweat would admit that he slit Ashley’s throat during an argument.
