Rescued Tabby and Chihuahua the Best of Friends

PHOENIX - Talk about an unlikely pair. A Chihuahua and a tabby cat were rescued while wandering the streets of Phoenix together.No one knows how the pair found each other, but the Arizona Humane Society put them on the buddy system so they can stay together forever.A dog and cat were walking down the street sounds like a joke -- but there's no punch line here.
“These two were walking down the street together like best friends,” says Bretta Nelson from the Arizona Humane Society. After finding them at 19th Avenue and Cactus, a Good Samaritan brought Lola and Logan here to the AHS campus for compassion.


The staff put Lola with the dogs -- Logan with the cats -- but soon they saw that Lola couldn't live without her kitty. She became fearful and cautious, a completely different dog.
“The minute we brought Logan back and reunited them the demeanor changed completely, she was very friendly and you truly can tell they were the best of friends,” says Nelson.
Normally the Humane Society keeps dogs and cats in completely separate buildings, but when the staff saw how miserable Logan and Lola were apart they gave them their own room together.

The phrase “fighting like cats and dogs”, not so with Lola and Logan.
Now if humanity could only learn from this example and finally get the fuck along.

That's a perfect story to end the day on. Thanks, Silva. I bet these two were house mates and either got lost or were dumped when their owner decided s/he couldn't keep them any more.

My nextdoor neighbor had a cat and dog like this. The dog was a Chihuahua too, a light beige shorthair; the cat was some white shorthair breed (I don't know cat breeds.) They were both 14 years old and had lived together since kitten/puppy age; being old as fuck they mostly just laid around with the cat curled up against the dog's belly. I never got over the sight of it though. Especially when she fed them, as they calmly ate from their bowls side-by-side and took no interest in eachother's food.

In this case, they weren't the same age (the cat was ~1 and the dog was ~7 years old) and there's no way to know if they came from the same home and just stuck together, or met as strays. But I'm guessing the Chihuahua's small size and older age (hence, less energetic behavior) probably played a role in their compatibility.
