Detective Andrew Alvarado identified the woman as Sonia Dawn Sossamon, 37, of 151 Burton Hill Circle in Gastonia. She was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
Victim told officers he was lying on the couch at his residence on Sifford Road when Sonia Sossamon began striking him in the head with a claw hammer. Jeffrey McIntosh said he and another person forced the woman out the back door and she fled the scene with the hammer. McIntosh sustained three lacerations on the head and transported to the hospital for treatment.
Sheriff’s deputies and Gastonia Police arrested Sossamon at Burton Hills Circle in Gastonia. They had gone to that location trying to locate the woman but the homeowner said she was not there and did not live there. Charles Horace Edwards, 41, of the same address has been charged with harboring or aiding a fugitive.
