Before I got married I was a single mother of two and I worked 55 to 60 hours a week at Fry's Electronics, starting back when she was 2 months old. Cause I didn't get any child support. In Oregon you get something like $550 a month in cash for 2 kids. Who do you know that can live on that?

What is your ethnicity? Maybe a clue...
I'm sorry it was so tough for you. It seems the system trips over themselves to help the sluggards and the ones who try to better themselves gets the shaft and later when they've crawled out, the bill.

The ones with the money are always the ones really in control. It doesn't matter what it is, or how they got the money, they also get the power. And the complacence of people thinking they're entitled to shit is one example of what helps make it easier for those types to acquire more money and power.

The politicians write the laws, pass the laws and enforce the laws. You say they were bought? Probably, they still wrote the laws, passed the laws and enforce the laws.
Corps didn't break the law they followed the law the politicians, who made boat loads of money off the laws, set up for them!
Like the politicians who feel entitled to insider trading? Like that?
And nobody's willing to 'occupy' capital hill!
Why?

I think they won't occupy capital hill because they know that's where the real 'fight' is and they're maybe too chicken to take the movement that seriously,..they'd rather disrupt cities and people who have to get up to go to work the next day. (and I'm talking about occupiers in Atlanta because that's closest to me, as opposed to New York, where the actual Wall St. is). Of course the politicians were bought by the Corps, and anyone else with an agenda!. Lobbyists are doing nothing but offering bribes,...that's how DC works,..that's my thoughts on it anyway.

Sorry something is driving your nuts @gee. Ain't that a bitch?
Good questions, and you should be pissed off.
To answer your question, IMO, a successful protest needs basis that people can benefit from if you can get enough steam behind it to get noticed and obtain the elusive"change" In order to have a basis you need a solution that anyone who listens can stop and think, "Right, lets try this"
A successful protest may be a clear objective, such as pull our troops out of the wars and bring them home, put that money towards our deficit. Whether or not you agree, it is clear.
Protesting about 1% of the people having 99% of the wealth is a complaint with no solution. Enter too many people with their own objectives and it is a nuisance. No one knows what it is about anymore but are happy to jump on the bandwagon, ironically at taxpayers expense.

Precisely correct! Again I ask, who made bribery legal ONLY for themselves?
That would be the politicians of BOTH parties.
If I bribe or even attempt to bribe someone I go to jail and/or pay a huge fine.
The same thing with insider trading (ask Martha Stewart about it) it's legal for congress but my ass would go to the slammer for it.
Seems the ruling class actually is above the laws they write and We The People must abide by.
Yet nobody is 'protesting' in DC where the problems originates.

Those damned Chamber of Commerce people need to get busy passing bills that will actually benefit the country.Occupy Movement Disrupts DC Chamber of Commerce Event
By Fred Lucas
November 14, 2011
(CNSNews.com) – Protesters from the “Occupy DC” movement crashed a U.S. Chamber of Commerce event on Monday in the nation's capital.
Several protestors began shouting loudly about the lack of affordable health care at the DC Chamber of Commerce building in Washington, D.C., located at 506th 9th Street, NW.
The disruption occurred just as Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Scott Serota started speaking to a luncheon gathering co-sponsored by the National Chamber Foundation. The "Occupy" protestors were removed from the building's banquet hall by security.

LOL! Where do the come up with this crapola?Democrats criticize eviction of Occupy Wall Street protesters from NY park
By Mike Lillis -
11/15/11
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s (I) decision to evict Occupy Wall Street protesters from a Lower Manhattan park is a blow to free speech, several House Democrats said.
Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, warned that in preventing protesters from camping out in Zuccotti Park, the city has “effectively removed [the protesters’] ability to be there 24/7.”
“The concern to me was that the occupiers can stay there but cannot set up permanent location, which kind of begs the question of, ‘Are they gonna have a daytime presence and then be gone [at night]?’
“I wish there would have been something done to accommodate the ability for them to stay there for the duration.”
While a few Democrats acknowledged that Bloomberg had a responsibility to ensure the safety and health of those in the park, others offered support for the demonstrators and concern that the mayor was going too far.
Bloomberg on Tuesday sent police forces into Zuccotti Park — the spot that launched the nationwide Occupy Wall Street movement — to clear tents, tarps and other belongings in an effort to clean the area in the name of public health.bummer maaaannnLate Tuesday afternoon, however, a judge ruled that New York City and the park’s private owners could clear the protesters from Zuccotti Park and prevent them from re-encamping.
Waaaahahahaha! Many Democrats in Congress have sought to align themselves with Occupy Wall Street, which some have seen as a liberal answer to the Tea Party.
Dims had nothing to do with it, I tell you!! It was all those wascally wepublicans.Though the message of the demonstrations has sometimes shifted, it has been consistent in highlighting growing inequalities in wealth that Democrats say have been driven by GOP policies. Democrats hope to highlight those themes in next year’s campaign season.
Can anybody show in the constitution where creating a health hazard is protected?Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D) agreed that New York City has a responsibility “to protect the health and safety of protesters and the community.” But the New York liberal, who represents Lower Manhattan, said the police have to balance those concerns with the “core First Amendment rights of protesters.”
Bloomberg, who was scheduled to be on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to testify on gun reforms, instead remained in New York to manage the Occupy Wall Street situation.Like rampant VD, scabies, lice and lung ailments to name a few.“The movement will continue,” Larson said. “They’re still going to be able to go there. It’s just that there were some health issue and concerns of deterioration to the park, which is certainly not the goal [of the protests].”
WTF???? Screw the health of the public???Still, other liberals warned of a slippery slope if government officials begin clearing protesters, even in the name of public health.
Where is the non violent and non threatening protests? And we're promised they will burn the mf (NYC) down???“We always must remain careful about disrupting a non-violent, non-threatening protest,” Cleaver said. “That’s antithetical to who we are.”

What this eviction is about is tourism, it's waaay down, along with sales receipts, thus tax revenues, Thanksgiving Day Parade is coming up. Christmas shoppers ordinarily flock to NYC.
And the protestors still don't strike the head of the snake.

Just some random thoughts,.....Why have they been allowed to stay so long in a privately owned park in the first place? That sounds to me like the owners have been exceedingly patient with them. Why is it so hard for them to understand that they have the right to free speech and assembly,....but squatting in the middle of a park in the city with your tent, grill, lantern, laptop and ipod is illegal, dangerous, and a sanitation/health disaster, among other things. I'll admit I think they have some valid points,...but the way they're going about this 'protest' is not gaining them any respect or validity imo. If they decided to organize and have a productive 'assembly' where they freely speak about their grievances,..then decide to present them to their elected officials, or whoever, at least try to do it the 'right' way,...then they might get somewhere, and would have much more reason to bitch if they didn't. Hell, I don't know. The whole 'movement' mostly pisses me off. If the American Nazi Party, and the Communist USA party (among others) are supporting the OWS people,....I can't get past that. that's a problem. And as for racists,...we are going to find that everywhere. I just try to keep in mind that we do not see the whole story on the news. We see what they want us to see. I asked my German friend what he could find out about how the average person there sees OWS and stuff, and I have yet to hear anything from him. I don't think anyone cares anymore except the freaks in the parks. The ones who had honest intentions at the start seem to have left. oh well.

This park OWS is in is not a regular park. It is a concrete park with benches and maybe 20 newly planted trees. It is actually a plaza, not a meadow-like park. It is a public park located on privately held land. That's why they can assemble there. City cannot kick them out and the property owners would have a hard time doing it because it is a public use plaza.
Anyway, this morning I couldn’t leave the subway without flashing my ID. Can you believe that shit? Wall street is entirely blocked off and these people are occupying surrounding streets so people can't get to work. I tried to take a picture and was told no photos. I didn’t want to fight so I just put my phone away. I will try to take a picture later this afternoon.
Wall street today looks like a war zone. It is a gray day (no sun), PO's are rocking riot gear, helicopters are overhead (and those fuckers are LOUD) and there is a huge mass of people just sitting/standing in the streets and blocking everyone. Insane.
They are now saying that subways will be occupied next. What do they think that will accomplish except aggravate the riders?
As for tourism, we now have OWS tourism. This does not seem to be impacting people coming to NYC at the least.

@Rockin Ma - set those sights high. Chances are, if your kid has the grades to get into Harvard or Columbia, they will get a better financial aid package then from Conn State. If not Ivy then second best (Clark University, NYU) is the way to go. Their aid packages are out of this world. Very few pay full tuition.
Even better if you can get him into one of "European" sports and if he is good at it. Forget baseball and football. Fencing and waterpolo is the way to go.

Controversial Professor Bill Ayers Speaks With Occupy Chicago Protesters
Former Weather Underground group member teaches non-violence to protesters
By Jessica Guido
Nov 17, 2011
Controversial activist, professor and author Bill Ayers was videotaped recently giving advice about non-violent protesting to Occupy Chicago protesters.
Filmed last month by Education Action Group, EAG-TV, and posted on their YouTube page, the video shows Ayers teaching a group of protesters in a "teach-in."
Ayers made headlines in 2008 when his connection to then-candidate Barack Obama were crystallized -- perhaps most notably -- by Sarah Palin who accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists."
During the teach-in, Ayers preached inclusion. When asked if violence was a necessary step to increase the Occupy movement, Ayers tells the listeners violence is not the answer instead protesters should use their brilliance, humor, wisdom and body to "dramatize the violence that exists".
"We do not live in a neutral, non-violent. Not when there is a trillion dollar military budget, the biggest in the world. Not when they are recruiting kids to be in the service. Not when every athletic event begins with guns and marching. That's a violent culture and that is where we live," said Ayers. "A real revolution involves the masses of people transforming themselves and that is going to require a hell of a lot more than your gun against the some other guy's gun."
Ayers continues to say the transformation should happen in the head, heart and on the street. He does question how citizens are to remain non-violent, when the government participates in warfare and military actions.
Ayers also tells protesters what makes "an organizer different from an agitator is to talk with strangers", speaking of communication between the Tea Party and Occupy movements.

San Francisco Officials Fear Disease Will Spread At Occupy Encampment
November 17, 2011 9:54 AM
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Poor sanitation andevidence of lice and fleas at the Occupy San Francisco encampment endanger the health of everyone in the overcrowded, makeshift tent city at Justin Herman Plaza, public health officials said Wednesday.
“Everybody that’s been down there knows it has to change,” said Dr. Tomas Aragon, a public health officer who has been conducting inspections twice a day at the Occupy SF protest.
Aragon said the lack of sanitation and food safety, combined with the large quantities of debris in very tight quarters, made the Occupy encampment a tinder box for gastrointestinal and respiratory infections.
“Whenever you bring a group of people together, they’re going to bring whatever they have on them,” he said. “Although we have not detected an outbreak, we did identify one person, for example, that had lice.”
Some Occupiers have cooperated with efforts such as the one by the SPCA to identify potentially deadly canine infections such as parvovirus.
On the other hand, some of the chronically homeless in the camp have mental health problems, including substance abuse, that have contributed to a culture of lawlessness, said Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White.
“We’ve seen fist fights. There’s been acts of violence,” she said, problems that only appear to be growing. “There’s too many people living in an environment that you’re not really supposed to occupy and live in.”
Aragon and Hayes-White have recommended the encampment be pared down, if not dismantled entirely before a serious outbreak of disease occurs.

Rush for STD tests
By LAURA ITALIANO, FRANK ROSARIO and BOB FREDERICKS
Last Updated: 10:39 AM, November 1, 2011
It’s the Autumn of Love!
Occupy Wall Street protesters are flocking to nearby health clinics for STD and HIV testing after getting their freak on in ’60s-style hookups with crusty strangers, sources told The Post yesterday.
“Last week was free love,” said a medical professional at a clinic located a short walk from Zuccotti Park, referring to the number of people who organizers have referred for sexually transmitted disease testing.
A volunteer at the park admitted concern among protesters about STDs.
“We give directions to clinics if people ask for information regarding STDs,” said the volunteer, who identified himself only as “Captain” and added that pregnancy tests are also a hot item.
“Like anything else, it happens. People ask, and we do the best we can for them.”
Volunteers at the medical tent hand out cash, usually $15 or $20, so the randy radicals can visit clinics that cater to a low-income clientele, the source said.
Experts said it’s the right thing to do.
“My advice for the protesters would be to practice safer sex. It’s a lot cheaper to buy a condom than get treated for an STD,” said Dr. Lisa Oldson, medical director of Chicago-based Analyte Health, which provides testing services for labs nationwide, including STD Test Express New York.
Also yesterday, a man who was punched in the head by a NYPD deputy inspector met with prosecutors to try to have the cop charged with misdemeanor assault.
“Nobody is claiming that this is the crime of the century, but what he did ... was assault,” said Ron Kuby, the lawyer for Felix Rivera-Pitre, who was hit by Deputy Inspector John Cardona in an incident caught on video.
