OWS upset about sharing their food with the homeless

Occupy Wall Street kitchen staff protesting fixing food for freeloaders

The Occupy Wall Street volunteer kitchen staff launched a “counter” revolution yesterday -- because they’re angry about working 18-hour days to provide food for “professional homeless” people and ex-cons masquerading as protesters.

For three days beginning tomorrow, the cooks will serve only brown rice and other spartan grub instead of the usual menu of organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep’s-milk-cheese salad.

For some reason this just struck me as funny.

This has just gotten out of control.... Why not feed the homeless? They have taken over their area on the streets.
Well at least they have here in LA. I can't speak for NY

To say the least! Especially since the homeless are on the very lowest rung of society and they claim to be representing them.

They' are representing them alright, just ain't gonna feed them.

My daughter and I drove downtown on Sat to look for vintage band t-shirts. As we were walking towards one of the stores we noticed a bunch of people standing against a wall staring at us. We looked around the store for a bit but they didn't have what we wanted so we started to head back to the car, as we walked past those same people some bitch yells out "What's the matter, couldn't find any Gucci in there?" It was then that I realized they were part of the occupy eugene group that has been camped out a few blocks down the road. I flipped them the bird and kept walking.

WTF I thought hippies were suppose to be nice?

Is this not ironic? I thought that OWS and the homeless were one and the same. Wow, who knew. Half of those fuckers in Los Angeles are homeless besides OWS has occupied the streets they used to camp out on, so what's good for the goose is also good for the homeless!

SoCal ‘Occupy’ Group Splatters Blood, Urine Street Vendors Carts

Occupy groups standing up for the little guy... unless they stop getting free shit.

Where the hell did they get blood to throw?????

SoCal Street Cart Vendors Hurting After ‘Occupy’ Group Splatters Blood, Urine
    November 7, 2011

    * Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent.

    * “Both carts have had items stolen, have had their covers vandalized with markings and graffiti, as well as one of the carts had urine and blood splattered on it,” said Councilman Carl DeMaio.

    * In addition to the attacks, the vendors also said they recently received death threats.

How can anyone with half a brain support these Freeloading self centered paid demonstrators
It's obvious they want to sit on their ass and get paid for it,
I won't work but I want a share of your working stiff wealth, i want what you have while I sit on my fat ass, GIVE ME, GIVE ME

The coffee and hot dog carts were located in Civic Center Plaza, the same location as the Occupy San Diego protesters.

That group first settled in to the plaza Oct. 7 and set up a tent city which has since twice been taken down by police.

Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent.

And according to one city councilman, bodily fluids were used in the attacks.

“Both carts have had items stolen, have had their covers vandalized with markings and graffiti, as well as one of the carts had urine and blood splattered on it,” said Councilman Carl DeMaio.

The damages will likely require at least a complete cleaning if not a replacement of the cart covers, DeMaio said.

In addition to the attacks, the vendors also said they recently received death threats.

Mercedes Benz - Lyrics - Janis Joplin
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?

    Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

    That's it!

All this time people were worries about the Zombie Apocalypse when in reality they should have been preparing for the hippie Apocalypse.

I have a tye dye shirt and a pr of John Lennon glasses in the back of my closet from an old halloween costume. If the hippies start to take over I can throw those on, rub cat shit in my hair, and blend right in.

How can you compare this Occupy to hippies?

I was there I was at Golden Gate Park everything was shared free Rock, food, and dubbies I was in the haight, It was nothing like this Occupy crap, people didn't care about sharing the wealth, they didn't demand your money, they really didn't give much of a shit beyond sex and drugs and Rock n Roll

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippie
The hippie subculture was originally a youth movement that arose in the United States during the mid-1960s and spread to other countries around the world. The etymology of the term 'hippie' is from hipster, and was initially used to describe beatniks who had moved into San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district. Both the words "hip" and "hep" came from African American culture and denote "awareness".[1] The early hippies inherited the countercultural values of the Beat Generation, created their own communities, listened to psychedelic rock, embraced the sexual revolution, and used drugs such as cannabis, LSD and magic mushrooms to explore altered states of consciousness.
In January 1967, the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco popularized hippie culture, leading to the legendary Summer of Love on the West Coast of the United States, and the 1969 Woodstock Festival on the East Coast. Hippies in Mexico, known as jipitecas, formed La Onda and gathered at Avándaro, while in New Zealand, nomadic housetruckers practiced alternative lifestyles and promoted sustainable energy at Nambassa. In the United Kingdom, mobile "peace convoys" of New age travellers made summer pilgrimages to free music festivals at Stonehenge. In Australia hippies gathered at Nimbin for the 1973 Aquarius Festival and the annual Cannabis Law Reform Rally or MardiGrass. "Piedra Roja Festival", a major hippie event in Chile, was held in 1970.[citation needed]
Hippie fashions and values had a major effect on culture, influencing popular music, television, film, literature, and the arts. Since the movement in the 1960s, many aspects of hippie culture have been assimilated by mainstream society. The religious and cultural diversity espoused by the hippies has gained acceptance, and Eastern philosophy and spiritual concepts have reached a larger audience. The hippie legacy can be observed in contemporary culture in myriad forms, including health food, music festivals, contemporary sexual mores, and even the cyberspace revolution.[2]

We are. The occupy mess is made up of kids who have had their ass' kissed their entire lives, didn't want to damage their self esteem. When a knot should have been jerked in their tail and made to realize society AIN'T yo fucking mommy and daddy! Speaking as an objective independent, there's a BIG FUCKING DIFFERENCE between those who are homeless by circumstance and those who are homeless by choice. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people in this country homeless by choice.

I am very philanthropic. Even as broke as I am lately, I still adhere to the 10% rule (we try to give roughly 10% of our income to worthy causes). But there's little that gets my blood boiling faster than someone who has made a lifestyle out of preying on the generosity of others. These people are often able-bodied and intelligent, but have chosen to become professional free-loaders, usurping resources from those who actually need it due to poor fortune.

So I understand where these people are coming from. There's only so long one can cater to someone whose goal is to leech off you before you become fed up.

Still, from a political stand point, these people have made a big mistake. They should have known how this was going to look.
"Now that ceaseless exposure has calloused us to the lewd and the vulgar, it is instructive to see what still seems wicked to us. What still slaps the clammy flab of our submissive consciousness hard enough to get our attention?"

In Eugene the occupiers are all old hippies. It's the same group that participates in the Oregon Country Fair every year (aka hempfest) and the same group that run the Saturday Markets. Maybe it's just this town (we are pretty much the hippie capital of the world) but hippies and occupiers are one and the same here.

    So true.

    However, you asked this:
How can you compare this Occupy to hippies?
And I wanted to point out that I wasn't comparing "this" occupy to hippies. I was comparing the occupy in my town to hippies because that's exactly what they are. The group of people that yelled at my daughter and myself on Saturday were definitely hippies, hence my comment "I thought hippies were suppose to be nice?".

Beginning with the gov (who is the worst offender) down to the street bum, your statement is 100% accurate!

Help for those who actually need and deserve it is part of the American fabric. Those who can and won't work shouldn't eat!

Still, from a political stand point, these people have made a big mistake. They should have known how this was going to look.

The group of people that yelled at my daughter and myself on Saturday were definitely hippies, hence my comment "I thought hippies were suppose to be nice?".
Isn't Oregon pretty much all hippies?

Yet it is precisely the mystical utopian energy that most professional progressives so smugly dismiss that has aroused a salient, mass political consciousness on economic issues—something that had eluded even the most lucid progressives in the Obama era.

Since the mythology of the 1960s hangs over so much of the analysis of the Wall Street protests, it’s worth reviewing what actually happened then. Media legend lumps sixties radicals and hippies together, but from the very beginning most leaders on the left looked at the hippie culture as, at best, a distraction and, at worst, a saboteur of pragmatic progressive politics. Hippies saw most radicals as delusional and often dangerously angry control freaks. Bad vibes.

Not that there is anything magic about the word “hippie.” Over the years it has been distorted by parody, propaganda, self-hatred, and, from its earliest stirrings, commercialism. In some contemporary contexts it is used merely to refer to people living in the past and/or those who are very stoned. ...

Early in 1967 writers for the Haight-Asbury psychedelic paper the Oracle, along with local poets, musicians, and mystics, organized the first Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park. They were chastised by a group of Berkley radicals, including [Yippie leader Jerry] Rubin, for rejecting their proposal that the gathering should have “demands,” a suggestion that the amused hippie conveners saw as a contradiction of the whole idea. (There are echoes of this argument in criticisms of the Occupy Wall Street protesters as insufficiently specific in their demands—as if the interests of 99 percent are not a clear enough litmus test for any proposed laws or regulations.) ...

As Martin Luther King pursued his strategy of nonviolent protest, the NAACP leader Roy Wilkins, who oversaw most of the legal strategy for the civil rights movement, mocked him by asking, “How many laws have you changed?” King replied, “I don’t know, but we’ve changed a lot of hearts.” Obviously, the civil rights movement needed both spiritual and legal efforts to achieve its goals. So do modern progressives. As Nick Lowe asked in the song made famous by Elvis Costello, “What’s so funny about peace, love, and understanding?”
