Daniel The Miracle Dog Survives The Gas Chamber,Now Has Nice New Home

A 20-pound beagle named Daniel surprised animal control officials in Alabama after escaping death in a gas chamber.

The unwanted young beagle mix was left anonymously in a drop box outside a Florence, Ala., animal shelter, The Associated Press reported.
His life was supposed to end in a gas chamber Oct. 3 with 17 other dogs, but instead he emerged unscathed, wagging his tail.

Daniel is being hailed as a miracle dog, and was named after the biblical figure who survived the lion's den.

He has now found refuge in Rockaway, N.J., after Linda Schiller, founder of Eleventh Hour Rescue arranged for the dog to be flown up north with the help of Pilots N Paws, a network of registered pilots who voluntarily relocate animals to rescue groups, The New Jersey Star Ledger reported.

They couldn't have found him "refuge" prior to trying to put him down? I mean, I get the over population of dogs and cats and I understand why they are euthanized but I'm irritated that this pup's life only became meaningful after he escaped death. If he wasn't special enough to avoid the gas chamber before going in...why didn't they just try again?

It's incredibly common during hunting season to see hunting breeds--hounds, beagles, retrievers of most sorts starving on the sides of the roads, dead on the shoulder and digging through your garbage all because they didn't work up to the expectation of the ignorant ass that put the dog in the field and "that dog won't hunt." Dogs that fail to perform are left in the woods or whatever after the hunt. They are not loaded back into the truck and dropped at the pound-- at best they are spared starvation and shot--at worst, recall above.

It's incredibly common during hunting season to see hunting breeds--hounds, beagles, retrievers of most sorts starving on the sides of the roads, dead on the shoulder and digging through your garbage all because they didn't work up to the expectation of the ignorant ass that put the dog in the field and "that dog won't hunt." Dogs that fail to perform are left in the woods or whatever after the hunt. They are not loaded back into the truck and dropped at the pound-- at best they are spared starvation and shot--at worst, recall above.

One of those guys showed up at my parents farm one winter, best dog they ever had. Kids, other animals were fine but would allow no strangers on the property, we never could figure out how he knew who was ok and who wasn't.

'Daniel' Finds Permanent Home In New Jersey

The beagle mix that survived an Alabama dog pound's gas chamber has found a permanent home in New Jersey.
"Daniel" has been placed with a family in Nutley, N.J., Eleventh Hour Rescue told The Star-Ledger of Newark.

That and I think SOME get lost while they're out, I don't hunt but i think some hunters have some tracking device, depends on the intelligence of the handler. Hounds are known for following scent once discovered, no planned hunt via humans required. I returned a beagle dog to it's family a few years ago. They said he had wandered off before while trailing a scent. He wasnt a hunting dog, they said the kids' pawpaw died and the dog was important to them.

Had a redbone years ago, she showed up at a friends home. I took her with me because no one paid her much mind, and since she was FEMALE, I was scared an backwoods inbred bitch would do something bad to her. She had a tat in her ear and a strange scar on her rump. One thing I noticed was, we got a lot of coons around here and she never went after one that I know of. Would chase a cat every now and then but I don't think she'd hurt one, got along fine with my kitty and my sister's chihuahua.

She tracked ME all the time. I'd be gone a couple of hours and when I'd get home, she wouldn't be around close. I'd be fucking around inside for awhile and all of a sudden this big, bellowing arooooooooooooooooooooooo, look out there and her nose down, tracking me. Was a fine watchdog and protector once she know my home was hers. Defended my home while I was gone. The people never got past the front door and she even nailed one of them. Fine dog. That deep brawl she had was disarming.

Oh and someone asked why he wasnt all that special before, is because to those people, it was some sign or something. We all know how people are. I'm shocked someone didn't name him Chance.
