Newlyweds Ryan & Jacie Coari Wanted For Double Murder Arrested In Michigan

    Officials Investigate Auxvasse Deaths
    Sept 2 2011
    CALLAWAY COUNTY, MO. --
The funerals for the Callaway County father and daughter killed last week will be held Thursday.
The Callaway County Sheriff's Department said 56-year-old Mike Wieberg and 33-year-old Amanda Wieberg were found dead on Friday. Their bodies were found in the burned debris of Mike's mobile home. Sheriff's Deputies said the fire was probably started to cover up evidence of their deaths. An autopsy showed the two died before the fire.
The Meyers Funeral Home in Wellsville is handling the arrangements. The funerals are at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg where both Mike and Amanda were members.
Earlier this week, Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said a task force had been created to investigate the double homicide.

    Update: September 3 at 5:10 p.m.:
Callaway County officials continue to investigate what has become a double homicide.
Just before 5 Friday morning a call came into the Callaway County Emergency Operation Center about a residential fire on County Road 1027.
After firefighters put out the blaze they discovered the body of a man.
Officials believe it's the homeowner, 56-year-old Mike Wieberg.
Soon after investigators learned the Wieberg's daughter, Amanda Wieberg, might have also been inside the home.
The sheriff's office issued a missing persons report and later found her van in Audrain County.
But as investigators sifted through debris around 7 p.m. Friday night they found a body.
And all indications led them to believe it was the body of 33-year old Amanda.
Callaway County Sheriff, Dennis Crane, said they consider it a double homicide.
He said he believes Mike and Amanda were already dead when the fire began since neither of the bodies showed signs of smoke inhalation and both had signs of bodily injury.
"We think the fire itself was probably to cover up the homicides, to destroy evidence," Crane said.
Until the results from an autopsy come back officials won’t be able to positively identify the victims but the sheriff says everything points to Mike and Amanda.
“No family members have seen or heard from them since this date, we know their cell phones have not been active,” Crane said. “With the fire causing as much damage as it did we won’t have a positive id but the presumption at this time is that we're moving forward thinking it's them."
Investigators are talking to friends and family to learn as much about the victims as possible.

"We just know historically that a lot of times victims of homicides are known to the perpetrator or vice versa," crane said.
Friday night officers patrolled the area around Wieberg's home to make sure the area was secure and questioned drivers as they passed through.
Amanda's van was impounded and processed Saturday and police are hoping to gather more information from it about the murders.

    Update: Saturday, Sept. 3 at 12:15 p.m.:
The Callaway County Sheriff confirmed a woman's body also was found in the burnt house. He believes she is the daughter of the man found dead Friday in the Auxvasse home.
The sheriff said a preliminary findings indicate found they were killed before the fire, but the investigation continues.

    Original Story:
Officials in Callaway County are investigating a homicide after a man's body was found inside his burnt home, on County Road 1027 in Auxvasse.
They are now looking for Amanda Wieberg, also known as Amanda Collet. Police believe she was at the home sometime Thursday night. Wieberg was driving a maroon Dodge van, but abandoned it in Audrain County. She is 5'6", 165lbs. with short brown hair and numerous tattoos.

Arrests made in Auxvasse double murder
    Sept 23 2011
The Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney has filed charges against an Audrain County husband and wife in connection with the murder of an Auxvasse father and daughter.
On September 2, Callaway County authorities responded to a structure fire on County Road 1027.
Officers said they found the bodies of Michael Wieberg and Amanda Wieberg in the remains of the house. An autopsy determined the two died before the fire. A .40 caliber bullet was taken from the body of Amanda.
In a three week long investigation, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department said interviews with the suspects, Ryan Christopher Coari and his wife Jacie Kollene Gagala Coari, lead to their arrests.

Sheriff’s Department officials said Jacie told investigators in an interview that she dropped her husband off down the road from Mike Wieberg’s home.
Prosecuting documents indicate Ryan Coari told his wife he intended to rob Mike. When Ryan Coari returned home, he told his wife he bound and killed the two victims.

During and interview with Ryan, he admitted to detectives that he shot Mike with a .40 caliber handgun. Ryan admitted both Amanda and Mike were dead when he left the residence. He also admitted to starting a fire in the Wieberg residence.
Chris Wilson said Ryan Coari is charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of arson in the first degree.
Jacie Kollene Gagala Coari is charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of first degree attempted robbery.
Sheriff Dennis Crane said after the homicides the two left the area and drove to Michigan in a rented U-Haul. The two were arrested there on Michigan charges when they failed to meet the U-Haul rental agreement.
Ryan and Jacie Coari are currently being held in a Michigan jail. Sheriff Crane has asked the two be held without bond.

Jacie Coari “Why am I being charged with something I didn’t even do?"

Couple waives extradition challenge from Macomb County for Missouri murders VIDEO

    By Norb Franz

    October 7, 2011
A former Warren woman and her husband Friday waived their right to challenge extradition and are expected to be returned soon to Missouri where they face murder charges.

Jacie Kollene Gagala Coari, 27, and Ryan Christopher Coari, 28, acknowledged during brief appearances in Macomb County Circuit Court that they could fight efforts by Missouri law enforcement officials to have them transferred from Michigan to face prosecution.

Jacie Coari did not mention her married name in identifying herself to Macomb County Circuit Judge Mark Switalski. She agreed to forego a formal extradition hearing but asked the judge: “Why am I being charged with something I didn’t even do?”

Switalski told her that’s a question for officials in Missouri to answer.

Ryan Coari, accused of fatally shooting a 56-year-old Missouri man and the victim’s 33-year-old daughter in early September, stated only his name and also agreed to the waiver.

Police in Missouri have 20 days to pick up the couple from the Macomb County Jail.

The Coaris were arrested by Warren police on Sept. 11 at the U-Haul facility at 13 Mile and Ryan roads.

Ryan Coari visited the U-Haul center that day to rent a car dolly. When he mentioned that he had driven one of the company’s trucks from Missouri and was paying 79 cents per mile, an employee considered that suspicious because such rates are quoted for daily and local use.
Coari left for a few hours and returned with the truck, accompanied by his wife. The employee, who identified himself only as “Sean” for The Macomb Daily, said he checked the vehicle number on the truck and discovered through company computer records that it was reported stolen and that it may be occupied by homicide suspects.

The U-Haul worker contacted police. Officers arrested the couple outside the rental business.

The Coari’s were charged in 37th District Court with receiving and concealing stolen property – a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. On Thursday, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office dropped the charge against both so that the couple could be returned sooner to Missouri to be tried on more severe charges.

“Just for common sense,” Assistant Prosecutor Dean Alan said. “The (prosecution) felt it would be in the interest of justice.”

The bodies of Michael Wieberg and his daughter, Amanda Wieberg, were found in his mobile home in Callaway County, Mo., after firefighters extinguished a blaze which engulfed the residence on Sept. 2.

Warren Detective Cpl. Mel Nearing said the Coaris, who resided in Audrain County, Mo., gave conflicting statements during interviews by investigators. They claimed they left Missouri on Sept. 9 to drive to Michigan to pack up some of Jocie Coari’s belongings in Warren before returning to Missouri, police said.

Police from Missouri drove to Macomb County to interview the couple and obtained confessions from both about their alleged roles in the incident in that state, Nearing said.

In Missouri, Ryan Coari is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and second-degree arson, according to several news reports. His wife is charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of second-degree murder.

Court documents showed both victims were shot with a .40-caliber handgun, according to media reports in Missouri.

Nearing said Ryan Coari and Amanda Wieberg were acquainted. The Columbia, Mo. Daily Tribune reported that Jacie Coari told investigators her husband planned to rob Michael Wieberg and that he told her about the plan. She said she drove her husband near Mr. Wieberg’s home and dropped him off. When Ryan Coari returned home, he told his wife that he “had bound and killed the victims,” the newspaper reported.
