Eastleigh, England - Virtually an entire family has been convicted for the attempted murder of their wealthy 89-year-old English patriarch. Apparently not willing to merely wait for their inheritence, the brainiacs sought assistance from Google for ways to kill the elderly gentleman. This, and other details, were heard during their court hearings. The gentleman’s 16-year-old-grandaughter, her 14-year-old sister and 49-year-old mother, reportedly scoured internet for ways to kill the elderly man – along with a 19-year-old grandson and his 17-year-old girlfriend – using cryptic Google searches like “the easiest way to kill an old person”, “can you kill someone with a punch?”, “dangerous drugs for the elderly”, and the completely mysterious “if you hit someone across the back of the head with a brick will they die?” The court heard that their first attempts – throwing bricks through his window and cutting the fuel line on his car to make it explode – failed. Investigators concluded that they then devised plans to physically attack man – who suffers from dementia – using bricks in plastic bags in an attempt to scare him to death. …and attack him, they did. The 14-year-old granddaughter even reportedly helped in the attack. Who says that this younger generation doesn’t have initiative?! On November 15th of last year, the victim, who lived with his 87-year-old wife, was lured out of his apartment having been told that his daughter – the mom – had collapsed in the garden. As he stepped outside, he was attacked by his grandson and granddaughters who were – according to the court – ‘armed with bricks in plastic bags.’ After the alleged attack, the court was told that one of the granddaughters phoned 999 and said the man had slipped and fallen. The elderly man survived – but was left with 11 injuries to his head and body. During the 6-week trial for the 16-year-old, jurors were shown pictures of the blackened eyes and bruising he suffered across his body. Although all of the people involved – who cannot be named according to English law – were convicted, the court and attorneys made a special note of the fact that their leading a life of wealth and priviledge contributed to their reprehensible behavior. The mother, who reportedly received lavish gifts from her father – including a car – in the months leading up to the attack, was convicted of conspiracy and jailed for 17 years. The grandchildren and girlfriend were convicted of conspiracy to murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The 17-year-old girl was jailed for three years and will serve 13 months, the 16-year-old was jailed for 26 months and will also serve 13 months. The 14-year-old was given a two year youth rehabilitation order. Now… I don’t know exactly what a two year youth rehabilitation order is, but it needs a scarier name if we Americans are going to believe that it is just punishment for attempting to kill your 89-year-old grandfather with a brick. Afterwards, Detective Sergeant Bryan Carter said, “This was a particularly cruel crime involving a vulnerable elderly man who was seriously assaulted by members of his own family. The family members were motivated by money and carried out a pre-planned assault on this man*following weeks of premeditated acts.” “I hope he can now get on with his life and put these horrific incidents behind him,” Carter added.
