THIBODAUX, La. - Police have arrested a man they say killed his mentally-handicapped son, who was confined to a wheelchair, and then cut him up in the sink before discarding him on the sidewalk like trash. The town of Thibodaux has not seen a murder since 2008, but that all changed on Sunday when someone walking near the home of 30-year-old Jeremiah Wright noticed the head of 7-year-old Jori Lirette sitting on the sidewalk near some trash. Police were called and arrive shortly after, finding Lirette’s head was sitting near a trash bag that contained his dismembered body. “When I got here, it was something to be upset about,” said Capt. Calvin Cooks. “It struck a nerve.” Police say Wright was charged with the murder after he admitted to killing the boy and then dismembering him over the family’s kitchen sink. No motive for the murder has been reported. Lirette’s mother was not at home at the time during the murder or the discovery, but had to be hospitialized when she arrived at the scene and was informed of her son’s murder. Police say this is not the first time they have been to the home, having responded to a domestic call one month prior that led to no arrests being made. Neighbors also described arguing at the home since the couple moved in a few months ago, but nothing that would have anyone suspect something like this happening.
