    How Retarded Is THIS?

What do you see when you look at this picture from a recent Dunkin Donuts add? I'll tell you what I see: A cute haircut on a woman I deplore (if you're going to say "EVOO", just say "EVOO", don't explain what it means EVERY TIME YOU SAY IT, it defeats the purpose of an acronym), a lovely backdrop, a coffee I would probably drink. Sound about right?

You know what I don't see? A symbol of terrorism.

So, I've been looking at this story for a couple of days, now, but it was SO FUCKING STUPID, I didn't even want to grant it the dignity of recognizing it in this form. But, I changed my mind. Why? Because I found out Michelle Malkin had a part in it, and I find it necessary to expose her ridiculousness at every opportunity.

In a recent blog of hers, she wrote:

Charles Johnson notes, and many readers have e-mailed about, Dunkin Donuts’ spokeswoman Rachel Ray’s clueless sporting of a jihadi chic keffiyeh in a recent DD ad campaign. I’m hoping her hate couture choice was spurred more by ignorance than ideology.
In case you don't know Michelle, she is a conservative talking head of the same, horrific caliber as Man Coulter or Limbaugh (actually, I don't find Limbaugh as offensive as either of these gorgons).

For those who aren't familiar with "keffiyeh", here's Yasser Arafat sportin' his:

Yes, it's true that the keffiyeh is a standard headdress in the Arab world. True, also, is the fact that activists have kind of usurped the keffiyeh as a symbol or solidarity or recognition for the Palestinian plight. Still...

You know who is helping the terrorists win? MALKIN. By associating actions as innocent as RR's with hate and terrorism, she is lending credence to the movements she claims to oppose and drawing media attention to said cause when there is absolutely no need. I mean, seriously? I know Malkin's no Stanford grad, but are she and her minions really so stupid as to actually believe that Rachel was taking some political stand by rockin' this scarf? RR's stylist didn't associate it with hate. The director and camera man shooting the commercial didn't associate it with hate. Not a single motherfucker who reviewed the commercial before it was aired thought, "OMG! Look at that Arab-lovin' whore! We must reshoot!" But Malkin and her minions gladly created something out of nothing, and were SO successful, the commerical actually got pulled.

...and we give the Alex Jones/9-11 Truth movement such a hard time. At least they don't have any sway!

Godfuckingdamnit. Here it is, Friday morning, and I've gone and gotten myself all worked up. I can't stand this cunt-mouthed hag.

Oh, and in case you need a reason to hate her as much as I do? She actually wrote an entire book defending the internment of Japanese citizens during WWII and advocating the use of racial profiling in regard to the War on Terror.

Athena, you and I have more in common than I thought! Ridiculous?? Absofuckinglutely!!! I cannot stand Michelle Malkin either! Thanks for posting this because although I heard the story I did not know MM was involved (I guess I should have known though, had I thought about the absurdity of the whole thing). :tea:

They actually pulled the commercial, wtf that's crazy. I'm sure RR had no clue, they all probably thought it was a cute scarf.

As for her haircut yeah it's cute, but I think she looked better with long hair. In some way it emphasizes her small bust and large bottom half to me. I know that short hair is suppose to elongate you but in her case I swear it emphasizes her hips and ass.

I am tortured with her "EVOO" loving ass everyday @ work her show is in HD!

Holy shit, I have a keffiyeh! I used to wear it in the 80s, and I know it's still around someplace. I didn't even know I was a terrorist. Bad me! Bad, bad me!!

My first thought, upon looking at the picture: "Why did she wear such a fugly-looking scarf?!"

I heard this and I was shocked. Rachel Ray is supporting terrorism! I thought she was as all american as the apple pie she bakes. How dare Dunkin Donuts allow one of their celebrity spokespeople sport their support of terrorism!:grrrrrr:

I was shocked when I heard this, but really shocked at how people were getting their panties all in a bunch about a piece of fabric. So she wore a keffiyeh, big deal. I may have to pick up one next time I am at Urban Outfitters.

LOL. I had NO IDEA what EVOO meant as I read this thread, and was just considering whether to show my hip- or pop-cultural ignorance by asking. Now I don't feel stupid for not knowing!!

That's the danger of creating an acronym for something like that, though. If you don't explain what it is every time, someone's not going to know. So, if you want people to get your recipes right, just say "extra virgin olive oil". It's not like it take that much more time. :p

It's okay, Dakota, you brave soul, you. If she didn't do the "EVOO" thing, I'd like her too. I respect her for not submitting to the pressure to get a boob job because she's a TV personality. She's cute and pleasant and cooks simply. But this is a long-standing qualm, and I can't bring myself to abandon it. Frankly, I envy those who can turn a deaf ear to her gimmick. ;)

This controversy is such a waste of time. Malkin really blew it on this one. I had to laugh when I saw the article.

The giggle, the over expressiveness, the EVOO it's kinda grating. To be honest I have yet to see one of her shows I have cared to copy.

To each his own. Damn terrorist, pear shaped woman.

I'm an Alton Brown girl. Give me the science behind it and I swoon.

I don't do cooking shows so I could care less but I know who she is regardless. When I saw that stupid-ass article about the scarf, I couldn't fucking believe it. Like 99.9 % of Americans seriously would even know what the fuck that was except for an ugly scarf that didn't match AT ALL what she was wearing. Besides, who the hell would wear a scarf like that with a short sleeve shirt. Fuck. I don't know who Michelle Malkin is but I FUCKING CAN'T STAND Ann Cunter, Coulter, whatever.

Athena, you said nearly EVERYTHING I said to myself in my head when I read the article. Thank you for expressing it OUT LOUD, well, not really out loud but publicly. I know you guys are picking up what I'm throwing down...it's been a long day...

I love Alton Brown! The science kicks ass and his sense of humor is awesome.

I agree with Athena as far as the "EVOO" thing. It's always grated on my nerves but I thought it was just me. Every one else I talk to just looooves RR. Glad to know that there's a small group of us out there that find her annoying.

(and just out of curiosity, was the above comment a joke?)

Pete B. seems to be the resident hit-n-run kamikaze poster.

If you google him you will discover:

    A. A bad guy in the novel "American Tabloid" by James Ellroy. "A French-Canadian, ex-law enforcement, Hollywood insider, organised-crime associate and bodyguard for Howard Hughes."

    B. Some random guy from Paris who likes jazz on [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A14I5SOUS7CUCM/ref=cm_pdp_reviews_see_all?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRec entReview"]Amazon[/ame]
(seems D'D likes to pretty up Amazon links... but it just goes to the guy's reviews)

    C. A listing on Interesting Motherfuckers: a comic genius who created an insane world in which turkeys know the cure for cancer but won't share it with us until we stop eating them for Thanksgiving, men are heartbroken to find their wives in bed with brown paper bags full of pistachio shells, and LBJ keeps pulling submarine sandwiches out of the surgical scar on his stomach.

I put my money on him being a mix of all three of those guys... although he probably bases himself on the last guy. (at least I want him to be - he looks the most fun of the 3)

    Nice post, Athena.

Except that I think the internment of Japanese citizens during WWII was a very good idea.

Technically, if it is Iron Chef America, you are not cheating ;) I have an autographed copy of "I'm just here for the food", so you see, I am a fan of his too.

Not much to say, really. The war with Japan was the fiercest racial war in modern history. The treatment of American troops by the Japanese was probably the most horrific occurrence in the entire war (if not of the entire 20th century). The Anti-American propaganda was mind-numbingly evil. Pearl Harbor was a military insult. The Japanese were probably protected by being interred, and our treatment of them was nothing compared to the fanaticism which destroyed innocent Japanese IN JAPAN.

The Imperial structure of Japan was willing to throw away the lives of tens of millions to SAVE FACE. Even after the first nukes were demonstrated.

In the end we discovered that Japanese Americans were more "American" than they were "Japanese", and posed no real threat. However, with the state of Nationalism (fanatic Nationalism) present during the first half of the 20th century, coupled with the extreme racial nature of Japan's personal war, would have made NOT interning a risk not worth taking.

The myth is that Japanese were rounded up and held for the duration. In reality, they were gathered and processed, to determine what threat the "evil Japs" posed to us here. Many were released immediately. To not have taken these steps, in light of Pearl Harbor, and the dangers posed by our "Melting Pot", would have been folly.

It is not something to be proud of, but neither is getting an abortion after you have been gang-raped by a dozen winos.

So are you saying the Japanese Americans were rounded up for their own protection?

Those that were up to 1/16th Japanese could be placed in internment camps
Anyone who is at least one-eighth Japanese, even if they are white or Caucasian, were eligible.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanes...can_internment
    http://www.people.vcu.edu/~jmahoney/lec12net.htm
How exactly does this protect those who were not obviously of Asian descent?
