BIG SIS STOPS 13,000 'UNSAFE HAIR DRYERS' AT BORDER...

President Obama's border enforcement officials prevented over 13,000 dangerous hair dryers from entering the country, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) trumpeted today.

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized thousands of hair dryers recently that were determined to constitute a “substantial product hazard” under U.S. law, for failing to have adequate immersion protection," DHS announced. "The potentially dangerous hair dryers were identified through a nationwide targeting operation by the CBP Import Safety Commercial Targeting and Analysis Center (CTAC)."

CBP seized the hair dryers at the ports of Los Angeles (9,768 hair dryers) and Miami (3,614) because they "lacked shock protection for consumers" in the event of the hair dryers' immersion in water.

Maybe the security measures that they've implemented have been enough to deter terrorists from trying to hijack planes.

My question to you boys is this...what security measures would you suggest be implemented as a replacement for the scans? I'm not being facetious, I'm really curious as to what some other, maybe more effective, options may be.
Before I answer you, how the fuck do you know Biteme is a boy? Biteme is like Pat, you will never know.

There isn't a better option than the scanners. They show EVERYTHING. Basically TSA needs to clean up their act and get some public trust back.
I think it could be handled much more effectively and professionally. I also think the reviewer on the monitor cannot possibly handle all the traffic and at best spot checks.

I would like to see some heavier supervision and accountability for the people actually watching the scanning. To facilitate this, I would make him stand at attention in front of everyone so they can be the pressure to make him stare at the screen. My understanding is it is several people huddled over a monitor in the back room.

I would also rotate people out once an hour, No sitting, no distractions. They should look like a North Korean Guard on the demilitarization zone, focused intent and professional. The screeners I see slumped in their chair do not inspire confidence.

Make it a felony to use any information you see on the screen in any way out side the scope of the job. Enforce that rule to the limit. This is a position of national security, act like it.

Drug test and do a thorough background check on everyone.

Ensure that the pics are not stored on any media. There have already been hundreds of scans showing up on You tube.

I don't know enough about the process to say any more, but I am sure an independent 3rd party would fire the lot and start over.

District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes in federal enclaves, such as self-defense within the home.

I am not friends with the TSA. Our flight to Disney World was canceled (TWICE) because my name too closely resembles a name on the Do Not Fly list. I am Syrian, and I kept my maiden last name. After almost not being able to take our trip there, and then nearly being stranded in Florida, they told me to apply for a redress number to prove I'm not a terrorist. I did that. They gave me one, with a letter basically stating that even though I had a thorough background check and this redress number issued, it doesn't mean that the same thing won't happen every time I try to fly. The easy solution would be to change my last name to my married name, but I'm stubborn. I have personal and sentimental reasons for keeping it the way it is but man, what a headache.

That is what I am talking about. Any reasonable person would look at you and do the minimal research to ensure you are not that person. Then you should never be hassled again. But can that simple task be performed by a bureaucratic branch of government created in haste by a bungling government with knee jerk reactions?
Changing your name to your married name, hmm I had not thought of that. So Bin Laden can rename himself Eddie Vanhalen and fly as much as he wants without any scrutiny? There is another problem.

TSA placing adds on pizza boxes to find the best, sharpest, highly qualified TSA agents, no training or education needed for our nations defense against terrorist, no mind, to small for Big Fat Sis TSA goons, badges and uniforms make you look professional come one, come all, Big fat Sis wants YOU! Remember you can't be fired, only retrained, until you reach 100% of wage retirement
You don't qualify as a security guard TSA wants you!!

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin...hway-near-you/

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for our nation’s Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) who Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano contends are our nation’s last line of defense in fighting domestic terrorism. Unlike “hell week” which faces potential Navy SEALs, becoming a TSO requires a basic level of classroom and on the job training. In many cases this rigorous training is less severe than the requirements of becoming a security guard in most states.

Believe it or not, only 7 years ago, TSOs went by a more deserving title, “airport security screeners.” At the time, their title and on the job appearance consisted of a white shirt and black pants. This was fitting because airport security screening is exactly what’s required of the position. However, this is no longer the case.

In the dead of night, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) administratively reclassified airport security screeners as Transportation Security Officers. The TSA then moved to administratively upgrade TSOs uniforms to resemble those of a federal law enforcement officer. They further completed the makeover with metal law enforcement badges. Not surprisingly, government bureaucrats at the TSA left out one crucial component during the artificial makeover – actual federal law enforcement training as is required of Federal Air Marshalls.

While TSOs may have the appearance of a federal law enforcement officer they have neither the authority nor the power. If a passenger brings a loaded gun or an explosive device into an airport screening area there is nothing a TSO can do until the local police step in to save the day.

If TSOs are truly our nation’s last line of defense in stopping an act of terrorism, then the TSA should immediately end the practice of placing hiring notices for available TSO positions on pizza boxes and at discount gas stations as theyhave done in our nation’s capital. Surely, this is not where our federal government is going to find our brightest and sharpest Americans committed to keeping our traveling public safe. I would contend that we can surely strive for a higher standard and may want to look first to our veterans returning home from the battlefield.

Why does O'bummer hate the constitution?
Why does he feel only illegal aliens and cartels should have guns
Fast and furious the O'bummer, Holder anti American movement, disarm American citizens, arm the illegal cartels and open the boarders, I can see why boarder states are a bit nervous

Obama Re-Election Credited With Burst of Gun Sales

Gun sales are booming across Texas, and some buyers say their growing belief that President Barack Obama's re-election is inevitable is fueling their race to bear more arms.

So brisk have sales been that the rush has created a nationwide shortage of firearms and ammunition, the Star-Telegram reports. Fort Worth gun shop owner DeWayne Irwin said the rush is similar to one seen shortly after the president's 2008 election.

Alan Korwin, author of nine books on gun laws and operator of a gun laws website, tells the Star-Telegram that some are worried that Obama's re-election would embolden a major gun control push.

Korwin said people worry that if Obama wins "he will go after firearms in a way we have never seen before." He added the belief is fueled by perceived disarray in the field of candidates for the Republican presidential nomination.

Texas for third year warns against spring break Mexico
SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas on Tuesday warned residents for the third consecutive year not to travel to Mexico during the upcoming university spring break season, saying drug cartel violence and other criminal activity are a safety threat even in resort areas.
The advisory comes despite pleas from top Mexican officials to target the travel warnings to specific areas where the threat of violence is greatest.

Terrorist have known all along how to get anything they wanted on a plane
the only oblivious one was Big Fat Sis, but than TSA is not about terrorist, its about subjugation and controll of American people

'It’s also beyond belief that the TSA did not already know everything I just told you, and arrogantly decided to disregard our safety. The nude body scanner program is nothing but a giant fraud.'

How to get ANYTHING through TSA nude body scanners: Blogger exposes loophole in $1billion fleet
Jonathan Corbett claims he could easily smuggle explosives onto a plane
Strip-search scanners banned in Europe over cancer fears
Engineer Jonathan Corbett has published a video where he shows how he took a small metal case through two of the TSA's $1billion fleet in a special side pocket stitched into his shirt.
This is because, he suggests, the scanners blend metallic areas into the dark background - so if an object is not directly placed on the body, it will not show up on the scan.
The metallic box, he claims, would have set off an alarm had he passed through the old detecting system.
His revelation comes just weeks after Europe banned the 'airport strip-searches' over fears the X-ray technology could cause cancer.

Hate the full-body scans, pat-downs and slow going at TSA airport security screening checkpoints? For $100, you can now bypass the hassle.

The "trusted traveler" program that allows some to got through expedited TSA screening within US airports is still free. It's not available to non-citizens and only to select travelers.

    Also in TSA news:
Starting Monday, air travelers over the age of 75 may not have to remove their shoes or light jackets to clear security in a test program at four U.S. airports, including Orlando International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration announced the change last Wednesday. It's one of several new procedures meant to speed lower-risk passengers through screening and will likely mean fewer pat-downs for older travelers.

The charge is NOT to bypass the TSA screening when you get ON a flight. It is for the program to speed up going through customs when you get OFF a flight and enter the US. Two completely different things.

Are you sure you aren't thinking about the "U.S. Customs and Border Protection's 'Global Entry' program"? This is called "Precheck". They can use their "global Entry" ID if they have one but other then that I cannot figure out why you think this is only for customs and getting off a flight. Where did you read that?

Pay the TSA $100 and bypass airport security

Traveling through an airport has become a much more tedious experience in recent years due to the higher levels of security put in place. You have to wait in long queues, then remove your shoes, anything from your pockets, your belt, your laptop from its bag, and agree to get zapped with radiation in a (useless?) scanner or have an intimate body search performed.

Most of us accept the inconvenience in the name of safer travel, but it looks as though even the TSA has realized none of us enjoy the experience. Their solution is not to speed things up or reduce the checks, though. Instead, the TSA will gladly accept a one-off payment of $100 from you to bypass security checks almost completely.

The program is called Precheck, and will allow an individual to just walk through a metal detector before boarding a plane. There are some prerequisites, however, and Precheck won’t be open to everyone.

You do not need to pay anything to become part of Precheck. You can pay to get into the Global Entry (and thus get into Pre-Check, too) but I have no problem with having to pay the fee for a background check, fingerprinting, and personal interview with a Custom & Border agent. Either way, it's only good if you fly Delta or American and then in only certain airports. And neither is no guarantee you wont get randomly selected for a pat down.

Right now the Precheck (trusted traveler) program is just available to a few folks because it's in trial. Even according to the article, it will soon be expanding. Sadly, I doubt it will either program ever be in my area.

I flew through 7 different airports recently and almost always have to go through security in each one (due to going outside for some reason smoking) and was never in line more than 10 minutes. Rarely more than 5, actually. I was never randomly selected for a pat down and saw very few others that were and NONE were kids. It took me longer to get to my gate than it did to go through the process.

In addition to the recent relaxation of rules for folks over 75, the TSA relaxed rules on kids under 12 in September of 2011.

Even if you belong to Global Entry, PreCheck, are over 75 or under 12, you will still have to go through security of some sort and be subject to more intense scrutiny if you set off an alarm.

    No, others missed something:
TSA pat down of child in wheelchair not all it seems
    [...]

The 3-minute, 14-second clip with the sarcastic crawl line “TSA nabs suspected Al Queda terrorist” shows a TSA screener chatting up, patting down and swabbing a toddler in a leg cast and wheelchair.

During the incident, the unidentified boy’s father can be heard off camera reassuring the child and cooperating fully with the TSA screener. The video paints a somewhat different picture than the accompanying text which describes the child as “visibly confused, nervous and squirming.”

It purportedly happened at O’Hare International Airport, according to the text with the video, neither of which provided the date. Not true, according to TSA spokesman Jim Fotenos in Chicago. It actually was at Chicago’s Midway Airport.

The incident took place in the spring of 2010, well before the TSA in September 2011 eased its rules regarding screening procedures of children 12 and under, Fotenos said. The rule change allows young children to keep their shoes on during screening and reduces, though does not necessarily eliminate, pat downs that would otherwise be conducted to resolve alarms by metal detectors and other devices.

Fotenos would not say whether the child would still have had his cast and wheelchair patted down and been swabbed for bomb residue if the screening were done after the rule change.

“Terrorists are willing to manipulate societal norms to evade detection,” including using children to hide bombs, Fotenos said.

All in all, the toddler, identified as a 3-year-old in the text, seemed to handle the pat down well.

Even the poster of the video says it happened in 2010:

This video was taken in in the spring of 2010 at either O'Hare or Midway Airport.

A toddler in a wheelchair is stopped by the TSA at the Airport in Chicago and forced to into a sequestered area. On his way to a family vacation in Disney, this 3 year old boy is in a body cast for a broken leg. Despite assurances from his father that "everything is ok", he is physically trembling with fear while he watches his two siblings, mother, father, grandfather and grandmother pass through along with everyone else...only to be singled out.

He simply does not understand what is happening and why.

Check the YouTube account linked in the article you provided. The very first line of the description for the video says
This video was taken in in the spring of 2010 at either O'Hare or Midway Airport.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNO-AzPxS4U <<< provided you the link so you can see for yourself... just in case you don't know how to get to the description.

I tend to think for myself rather than be guided by sensationalized headlines and tin hat bloggers.

Your right about the date it's with the pay $100.00 to Big Fat Sis article, and this won't happen to your child
Seems like a TSA threat to wrestle money from passengers, next thing you know she'll charge families ransom to land
